Does anyone know the story behind the Centipede Hz art change? Was it in response to all of the criticism? It looked unfinished to me when I saw it, maybe they eventually thought so too.

I think the only AC cover i don't like is Campfire Songs, which still has some really cool art inside the booklet.

ODDSAC probably. Love the colors. That being said I'm not really that stoked on a lot of their album art. Person Pitch might be second for me even though comparatively it's not an album I listen to often.

This. I think I have an attachment to the ODDSAC cover more than just for it's looks. I remember looking at it whilst tripping once and the ripples on the back seemed to move and actually pop off the cover. But, Spirit would have to be my favorite. The cosmos behind the 6 winged angels and their "Statue of Liberty" spikes just looks awesome to me. Plus, I feel it matches the overall vibe of the album.

i might pick campfire songs... followed by MPP. idk those seem like lame choices. all the artwork is pretty rad in its own way

well, lemme break it down for everybody. within the realm of animal collective album covers, there are indeed no lame options or choices, but in general...animal collective album covers are generally quite shitty. but it's unique. it's specialized to tailor the music, which has its own principals and standards that we have all come to know and love and accept as "good".

the album art is a large part of how I visualize the music itself. I would probably be a little lost if it wasnt for ACs appropriate art

also if by "game for flaws" you mean "obviously basically all of their album covers have glaring flaws but that just adds to their charm!" could you please point out some of these flaws?

well, i ain't good with words, dude. as for game for flaws, another thing with words i said probably not too well, i mean the whole ac vibe. there are extremely beautiful things about their music, but some of it is right next to abrasive elements. their use of melody and sonic experimentation for instance make spirit one of the most baffling, yet rewarding albums i've ever heard. if they just went with pure catchy melody it wouldn't hold my interest at all. that's their style. and as you implied, we don't have to force ourselves to like their art, but that moment in which we respond to something particular in their music is special, which is why we're always making threads of "how did you get into ac?" because something so unexpected became so important to us. that being said, it's not my place to decide what ac album covers should look like, or even is it my place to judge them or whatever, but they definitely
work well to perpetuate that quality in ac's music that there is something foreign here worth exploring within.
