Yeah I guess it was a conscious choice to go post-MPP with this but I wonder why
Probably because the songs were complete and sounded better. They had been touring them for a while at that point and We got to remember that this is in celebration of MPP. Obviously it would be dope to get every one of their songs mastered and on record but for their specific album it’s not about the side songs.
Bleed and LD/fireworks is a blessing though for sure! I really hope essplode is in the middle of that!

Unfortunately not, but it's still a killer version.
Does anyone know when they started soundboard recordings?

It's fine. Sounds like the rest of the post MPP karaoke tours.
Thank God we'll always have Melkweg, Grrrrnd Zero, Starlight Ballroom and all the ones when it really meant something.

He's saying they were just running through the songs, not putting as much emotion or thought into their performances; i.e. singing "karoake."

I've never heard an MPP-era Banshee Beat so that alone makes this album worth it, it's so incredible!
also the intro to WCWAR and the intro/outro to Guys Eyes...

Stan's hyperbole finds a home with me. A chunk of us on this site have an intimate knowledge and relationship with the bootlegs of '07-'09. We have stories our lives wrap around that the bootlegs center. I'm not sure the band, or Noah, revels in the breadcrumbs we've been graced with over the years. The curatorial choices in this release do justice to AC's 2009 tour (except for Chocolate Girl, c'mon) but not to the chunk of us, of our relationships with the music, of the songs before they were officially titled.
The band reportedly didn't have multitrack soundboard recordings for every show back then so it's understandable that the sound quality isn't outstanding. I listen to my favorite bootlegs, though, and find a world of depth unexplored by this release. I think as AC fans the wealth is in the relationship between albums, bootlegs, and songs in their varying forms.

Very well said. I totally see where you're coming from, though I wasn't old enough to be aware of the band back then. I was just getting exhausted by Stan's negativity in the midst of this very positive and exciting release, even though I know it comes from a place of love

How old were you? ACs said they've met teenagers who heard STGSTV as kids through their parents. You'd be surprised!

Right?? Stuff like that is why I think they picked the performances they did. I see the choice of tracks as the band focusing on the weirder, jammier, alternate perspectives on MPP rather than just choosing the performances with the best sound quality. I'm overall happy with it in that light, I just have to get used to some of the mixing being different from my favorite boots (going to have a hard time getting past Brothersport sounding so dull though)

overall i love this release (fireworks and my girls are stellar) but im kinda scratching my head as to the inclusion of the Colorado recordings, the recording is so subpar compared to the others. Surely they could've found a better recording of brothersport

In 2009 I was twelve lol. I didn't have a huge interest in music when I was a child, so even if by some miracle my parents were aware of the band I doubt I'd have taken any notice

To be fair, "MPP karaoke" is harsher than anything I said. Is there anything actually disingenuous about the band touring this album to death? All they did is get the next generation of samplers. I cant imagine existing in their microcosm and pleasing everyone, no one in that position ever could

Was gonna wait till the record came in the mail, but it's not for another few days, so I caved... the opening to Who Could Win a Rabbit is indeed awesome. The drum loop sounds strangely buried in the mix, maybe that's just how it was? I remember it being much more up front.
Oh and this Brother Sport... hell yes! What a great version
Okay, this should (hopefully) hold me over until next week... so far, so good though

Super fun packaging and artwork. I love listening to AnCo live shows digitally, having it on vinyl is very special to me. I love the etching, it feels perfect.

lhtd said it much better than I could.
It's a brilliant release if you've never heard the better bootlegs from this era or never heard 09 Banshee Beat during the previous decade.
If you have, then it's nice to have a well mixed snapshot of when they were at their commercial peak. I imagine these 09 shows have a lot of amazing memories attached for the band, when they were on the cusp of unprecedented success and attention.
Understandably, the performances are lacking in excitement and spontaneity compared to the earlier shows because they'd been playing most of these songs for two years, and they were playing to different audiences in the context of 'the album versions'. 'Karaoke tours' was comic exaggeration but there's a truth there. That said, I really love this Banshee Beat and LIAC is great, and maybe because the grooves aren't so well worn. Now just imagine that feeling for every song...
It's impossible to recapture in one recording the dizzying excitement and evolving creative process and unique cultural context and the stories of our lives and even of this board in the feverish build up to MPP, so it's perhaps unfair to dismiss a release which doesn't even attempt to represent that period, rather than the immediate aftermath. It is also fair to say, however, that a series of such recordings do exist and I don't have the words to describe how grateful I am for that, and for House and for Bearhug and for Will To Joy.

I do really hope that someday we'll get a full album's worth of stuff like the "Live From LA" bonus tracks for Merriweather; that version of Summertime Clothes, when it was between the first version and the studio version (it's the one where Avey sings "Lookin' for... a bearhuuug"), is still probably my favorite of all of the live recordings I've heard from all eras. There's just such an incredible energy to it, and indeed the entire pre-MPP period was something really special in that regard.

On Banshee Beat rn and fuuuuck no matter how many times I hear this version it still floors me every time.
Also since we're all saying what songs we wish were included, I'd probably swap out Bleed, Lion, No More Runnin, and Guys Eyes for Chocolate Girl, Graze, #1, and WWIWS. But honestly I'm just so stoked this release exists and I'm perfectly happy with it as is. There's finally an officially released live Fireworks!!

it's honestly kinda cool that everyone has a specific live track or two (or three..) that they think is an egregious missed essential. for me, they should put From a Beach or Grace. Maybe WWIWS and og Taste too.. no Taste is pretty fucked.
but what they picked is chill. It's respect that it's basically the album's tracks minus Bluish, Taste and Also Frightened. and including fireworks/lablakely is cool since this was the last year it was being played...for going on a decade now
is panda's singing on this good? I recall this and the tomboy era to have this pre-monitor using roughness. dude used to sometimes be OFF
