true on all points. you forgot the part where stanshant comes back around for a lot of the stuff that's super disappointing to him right when the records drop.

i'd actually read Stan's dismay over this song before listening to it and was expecting some Taken Boy-esque letdown, but this is great!

since I'm 31 and have been listening to AC for half my life now, I feel like I've gotten to where I am able to handle whatever changes they throw when the records drop after having played the songs live beforehand. I probably don't obsess over the boots to the degree that I did from '06-'11, so that might play a factor as well.

love the discourse and tempers flaring over "midnight spesh" rn seem to be bringing 2 decades worth of demoitis to a head, and judging by this when defeat (banshee row) studio drops half the forum will get banned and stanshant will get prescribed something specifically for animal collective related trauma

Not surprised at all that some people are willing to gratefully gobble up whatever crumbs of crusty winnet the band scatter contemptuously in your direction. Tuck in, friends, and I will sustain myself on the pure hope that they somehow don't ruin the two good songs they write in the next decade. I am seriously considering cutting ties with band at this point. They don't appear to have taken on board any of the feedback I have posted on this forum since 2007.

Joking aside, I realised a long time ago that this is a band who are best live and the bootlegs are the best representation of who they are. It's been this way since...When has it not been this way?

Even the stillborn ebola homunculus PW came to life when they started touring it. Going back to the records I heard before the boots, pre-SJ, where demoitis was never even a possibility, it's clear that it was always this way. I love a lot of their albums and a few stand comfortably alongside the live recordings but they are a band which makes consistently underwhelming records and their instincts in the studio are often to tone down the energy and emotion, for whatever reason.

Midnight Special for me is the Mothlight performance where it first meant something to him, not this AOR housewife coffee morning book club palliative care wallpaper soundtrack.

yeah i def try to compartmentalize the boots and look at them as separate entities from the eventual studio releases. been pretty successful at that for a while, the last time i was truly disappointed was with how selfish gene/nadir turned out (and to a lesser extent jabberwocky and popadam). that one hurt too much to not protect myself lol

Way back when, I was a member of a French House board called D@ft Crew. I was one of the top ten posters around the year 2000 and we would all share the hottest French house tunes on Audiogalaxy and we would talk about the latest Daft Punk related side projects over and over and have our own jokes, which were the original memes. I remember making a 'visual joke' on Photoshop in three days which people were talking about months later, one of the highlights of the early Noughties.

There was one guy on the forum, quite a bit older than the rest of us, mid 30s, who seemed to hate Daft Punk and all new French house. He was called Eddie G and he always banged on about the old days and couldn't bear the poppier direction they took on Discovery and around Human After All, he just bailed like a big baby. I realised this morning that I am Eddie G. Sorry.

Listened to this for the first time in ages after listening to his new single and this is still pure brilliant. Like a beam of light. Anyone who doesn't dig this is pedo tier.

This album is one of the most consistent AC records ever. He absolutely nailed what he wanted to do with it and every song is a winner, albeit in only slightly different ways.

am I the only one who thinks this version of disc one sounds like the bro's melody? it's less dancy / has less of the drumbeat from the mothlight boot and with that acoustic guitar, it really picks up some of those person pitch/bro's sounds.
