Lollll. Loved this first section of defeat (PANDA/AVEY YES YES YES!), they completely fucked up the middlesection though (which had those beautiful swirling melodies). WTF. last section is fucking amazing. But def not an improvement.

Not really a spoiler but
Panda bear's drumming is so fuckin good. it reminds me a lot of danse in terms of its subtlety, even though the rhythms are obviously inspired by different styles

it's liked they were overwhelmed by the fan reaction after the music box shows so they collapsed under the pressure and fucked up the song.
"maybe we could get some hocketing in there to calm them down ? No we done that already ... Oh what deakin ? you played in the marching band in highschool ? okay we can do something with that"

Idk i like the harpsichord, just wish the song was more explosive with some cymbals in the middle section instead of the hi-hat

Strongly agree.
I wonder if they couldn't clear the main sample or if they just decided to move away from it. Either way I much prefer the new version. Much cleaner vocals plus Avey harmonies. So good

i'm glad that some others here are not feeling a lot of the changes to defeat, i felt the same way but didn't want to say anything initially because i didn't want to be a buzzkill lol. some of the changes i like but most i'm not feeling. absolutely agree that the 3 sections don't sound cohesive anymore and don't flow into each other well now

i have no fear about defeat at all, i braced myself and decided to just enjoy the new incarnation since it would be wildly different to orchestral defeat, and my only problem with it right now is the middle section which i'm sure they can iron out and make flow better. what it's missing is the two sections of build up, it just goes into the big loud part without anything. maybe they just forgot to play it

yeah, admittedly i have only listened to this new version once so far so i have to give it a few more tries. i agree they are probably going to iron it out further and it'll sound more natural and cohesive eventually

my main gripe with Defeat is how weak the middle section sounds now, Panda is barely even crashing on the drums! The changes to the first part I could take or leave, I like it about as much as the original. But the third section I absolutely think that they improved, that part always sounded the most unfinished to me in the music box recording anyway. Pandas vox are unreal.
