I'm listening to this record right now, a little over four years after it was first released. This record is still amazing, maybe my favorite AC-related release.

I've been feeling a way lately

and the words of heather in the hospital have been popping into my head a lot. and i am finally sitting here and listening to it on repeat and it's really nice, exactly what I need.

Damn this album is so good, I have listened this albums 20 times since yesterday

For some reason this didn't sync over to my phone when I got a new one (corrupted file on my computer or something) and so I just re-tweeted it yesterday and I just forgot how amazing it is. I missed this baby in my library.

I've said it somewhere on the forum before but this album is the thing I listen to when I really need to take time to think and take care of myself

I put it on whenever I'm taking a long shower or bath or BOTH AT ONCE and just lay in the tub humming along to oliver twist while the shower is going and it's the best thing ever. and now whenever I listen to it, this intense calm and comfort washes (ha) over me so I play it when I have to do some thinking or if I'm frightened or sad. goddd this album.

3 umbrellas reminds me of my friends too so that one is like a little ray of sunshine along with the healing warm rain of the rest of the album

I love when songs do that. It's like every time I listen to The Purple Bottle it just makes me feel like I'm being hugged really tight by my boyfriend. Sappy and cliche but it's really nice when I'm having a horrible day at work or having a spell of anxiety. It's comforting.

There's many solo Avey songs I like as much and more than Oliver Twist but none of 'em have such a fucking groove and atmosphere apart from maybe What's The Goodside. The sound design just hits all the right spots, and it proves that Deakin should just produce all of their albums at this point.

Why did we never get any of the B-sides like Song for Jerome officially released? Is it truly just because the songs were reminiscent of a painful era for Avey he didn't want to be involved with anymore? Song for Jerome was amazing. Saw him at U Street Music Hall in DC in July of 2011 when he played it there. Such a good show.

Animal Collective are pretty uncompromising in what they choose to release. If he didn't have a way of packaging it at the time that he didn't feel good about, then that sort of explains it to me. Of course there are logistical things too in terms of organising and promoting a new thing. There are a lot of different reasons someone might have chosen not to release something. Sometimes the moment just passes and you move on to new things.

I would have liked to have a studio version of the b-sides too but that's the life of a fan I guess. Anxiously waiting for studio releases, and then sometimes being disappointed by how they sound after waiting so long. But I guess AC fans also know not to be too precious about studio releases. It's just another version.

Now that Avey's on bandcamp it could be easier to dig up old stuff and release it in a way that doesn't have so much pressure. But he's still got to pay the bills so he'd want to be tactical about it. And I guess an anniversary release would have been a good time lol

nawww thank you. I am proud of how well I did despite singing through a mask and playing round with a puppet on camera at the same time. I might rerecord and remix some time if we ever do a Collected Animals Down There (or did that already happen? I can't remember and I don't see one on the bandcamp)

Thanks mate! I guess this band inspires a lot of musicians, or inspires kids to make music themselves. First thing I ever recorded was a cover of Doggy because I wanted to make it into a three part harmony.

The LH cover is all just midi instruments from the online music scoring programme Noteflight. Really great for making karaoke style instrumentals with.

Yeah Avey (and Deaks) nailed it so hard with that song and the rest of the album that it's hard to move on to his later stuff lol. I can't get over those squelchy beats. I'm so ashamed that I still haven't checked out Cows on Hourglass Pond. might give it a listen today.

Oh I've been all over the place with regards to AC in the past few years. I go back and forth on this band, sometimes I'm feeling it and other times I'd rather listen to k-pop or something. I feel like my relationship to Animal Collective is pretty well summed up by the fact that my custom Collected Animals theme just says "Brown Eyed Girls" lol. I'm a bigger Collected Animals fan than I am an Animal Collective fan. Or like I appreciate their approach to music more than I appreciate the music itself sometimes.

I still wanted BEATS after Down There came out so I got into k-pop and James Blake and Azealia Banks and Death Grips and Kanye West and Missy Elliott around that time. So Eucalyptus was so far beyond my tastes at the time it was released. I'm still slowly getting into it even now.

Also I'm a 30 year old married man still working out my career path so my music listening has to go by the wayside sometimes

Vinyl reissue finally coming in September!
I’ve been on the lookout for the wax for years after missing the initial run. It took years for it to click with me and since then it’s always felt like a hole in my collection. I pulled the trigger on a copy LAST week so go figure!

Despite overpaying, I had a transcendent experience spinning it with the windows open during a morning thunderstorm so I’m glad things worked out the way they did. Dunno. Just really feeling this collection of songs lately.

by far his best solo stuff (and that is no a diss towards is other albums). I love how tight and short it is. No fat at all on this one
