i love the variety of this set, they are going again into a lot of different directions and at the same time each song kinda of reminds me of a past album

dum question--what's the lineup? is it the whole gang

The whole gang, instrumentation for the new stuff seems to largely be Panda on the kit, Avey on bass guitar, Deak on keyboards and Geo on headlamp

not sure how i feel about panda's kit. i love the new songs and his drumming but for some reason am slightly irritated by the hi-hat? i know it's nit-picking but the sound of the hats just isn't that great to me

im so glad they kept all three parts of defeat, but im starting to really warm up to the last part, holy shit, this mustve been what looking at hell star remina was like, or looking up and seeing something giant slowly approach earth, and you just hug whoevers closest to you, i would hug my boyfriend and tell him i loved him so much

i really liked strangers, i guess we'll see how it comes out on the record. holding it to new town burnout seems like a super high bar- that song is top tier panda bear. his tomboy songwriting is some of his best

the new material, I'm kinda still processing it. It's so classic AC but my brain can't begin to grasp what these are going to develop into. After the total transformation of the PW studio stuff, it feels like anything could happen.

Anyways, Feels tangent ramble:
Kinda mind blown at the super studio-faithful rendition of BB. It seems like Feels era fans could not ask for more with this new upcoming era. I think Daevery recently posted a pic of THE feels Memory Man pedal all beat to shit so its clear they are mentally channeling that era in some ways, makes a ton of sense after revisiting Sung Tongs for that tour. On another note, being this faithful is probably mostly possible because DEAK can play his guitar parts. A huge part of the famous feels guitar sound is because of the dual guitars both with that rhythmic delay, deak is almost always playing a totally different part, usually more active and melodic and avery's are simpler so he can sing. Also hopefully they play some of the songs from feels where he has a lot of vocal parts, those are pretty underrated on the album.

Not exactly a deep cut but Did You See The Words is tied for my favorite song so I'd kill to have a faithful rendition of that. Actually, just play every song from that album while you have this setup going please :). It seems like they still have the original samples since the Bees autoharp sample was used on the PW tour, and I think a *long* time ago geo mentioned that he has all those samples stored away somewhere anyway, but he like, didn't know how to transfer them from minidisc to his computer or something lmao... hopefully I'm remembering that right.

I just bring all this up because the feels vibe seems to be alive right now in the band.

They've also gone back to using wedge monitors which, to me at least, is an awesome change. They have their downsides but they give a way more intimate feeling with the crowd. Also some lucky times people hold their camera/mic right next to it and get a revealing semi-isolated track...

GOAT post, onn.

----------

have people thought about where "Defeat" would be placed on the new album? as the centerpiece? last song?

i am currently of the thought it should be released either as a stand alone single, or on a 30-minute companion EP ala Fall Be Kind ... at this point it seems to live in its own precious world and doesn't seem to mix with the other material?

I was thinking about that, if it's on the LP I really can't imagine it being anything other than the last track. Wondering if we'll get a double album, a lot of the other tracks from Music Box (assuming they've all survived) aren't particularly short either.

It seems we were all thinking about this together ;P... I also had a hard time visualizing it with the other tracks... I almost hope it's held off into another thing of its own, but I trust their judgement, also considering the other tracks might end up sounding totally different after being shot through the AC studio-treatment.

these songs sound like the homie who motor rafted in the down there swamp in the oliver twist video (who got pwned by the mud alligator), all of the homies that look like him came to the alligator spirit stealer swamp with the super cosmic eyeball crows gentrified the area and built like a community there and this is that homies soul being conjured in a coffee shop/lounge around where he got chomped by the gator, and they playing swampy jazzy lounge jams for him. this sounds silly but im being serious this is real ac lore !

Defeat is (potentially, if they don't fuck up the middlesection in the studio) the only (new) top-tier song on this boot. I feel sorry for this gem to be surrounded with anything less than top-tier AC songs on a new album. It deserves to be on a GREAT AC-record. And we haven't seen one of those in a long time.
