so cool to hear a long lost relic from an era that's been closed for awhile! I had heard the boot maybe once so this is pretty much brand new to me

I think it would fit really snugly between On a Highway and I Think I Can on Fall Be Kind

I was driving home listening to this and got pulled over by the cops because it looked like my car radiator had blown and was freebirding all over the road. Turned out I'd just filled my trousers and the footwell with spunk which was seeping out of the car door. Quite embarrassing and both my trousers and the car are a total write off. A lot of the spunk had got into the engine.

I stopped listening to Animal Collective after MPP. Is any of their new stuff comparable to this?

Avey Tare - Down There

New Town Burnout maybe?
Crimson?

Parts of Transverse Temporal Gyrus are a bit like the intro of mountain game

the only links you can make are kind of lateral, but I'm sure you know that as an AC listener

some stuff is really good. some stuff is not. i recommend checking it all out because some of it is so great. as others said: down there, crimson...panda bear's tomboy for sure! and even if you aren't a fan of their later stuff, there are at least a couple of killer songs on centipede hz and painting with...and deakin's solo album is amazing

but as far as 'comparable to this': yeah i'd say avey fronted stuff is definitely the most comparable...down there, avey led tracks on the most recent AC albums, slasher flix, def check out the 2011 avey solo tour (where this track originated)

boy whos a krishna-

Centipede is their best work. Listen to any of their live sets from the centipede tour. Its easily the best music they have ever made in my opinion.

Anyone know what time signature this is? I suck at counting time signatures and this song is confusing me. It sounds like 6/8 but I have no idea.

It's definetly 7/8. Counting time signatures is something I obsessively do. When the beat first comes in it goes Boom 2 3 4. Clap 2 3. Boom 2 3 4. Clap 2 3. Which gives you 7/8 timing.

pretty sure it's 13/8! 7+6

it's 1000% not in 7 and 1000% in 13.

I spent a few hours notating the synth ostinato, hope this clears things up a little.

somewhere round that time something went " wrong" because this unreleased song for a game is better than anything they released after that.

Nah, Centipede is a masterpiece. Still, great track.

Hello ODDSAC's!!! Yayy the Mountain Game (I know it as "sometimes") was finally released!! I was just as surprised as most of you guys as well when I got off and found out! Wow! I wonder what made them drop this song the way they did? ..the art work is so sweet too, makes me wonders of they are going to have a little ep of unreleased songs or just totally waste it for a single song ? (I dont mean to sound rude by any means by that) Of course, it wouldn't have made sense of they dropped it at other point of this year.. I also love reading your guys comments and especially love how different people hear it in different eras.. Like I believe someone said it sounded like a EP song between SJ and MPP and then someone also heard it fitting right in the Chz era..so ya that's pretty interesting! Me? Which I'm so shocked, that no one has yet to think it would've fit pretty perfect on Fall Be Kind.

Again, I know the song only from boots of Aveys tour and dubbed "sometimes" ... Honestly, those songs that he only did that tour (like mist , song for Jerome) are really some of my favorite songs from him..just fucked up oll probably never here an actually great recording.. Anyways .. It was really odd for me at first when I heard the song as AC.. I like how the lyrics are then the his live version.. But that live version, at least for me, them words and how he sang the song was just soo powerful ..especially since what he was going thru at the time, it was just so pure and naturally... So the lyrics he wrote for that version, again my theory , was about the fcked up times he was go I'm Ng thru with his now exwife.. Pretty powerful stuff, right? ... And not to take away from the mountain game.... But my favorite part of the song is ... "what 'd you say in the street and what did you do in the garden ? Why am I screaming your late and why am I begging your pardon?" ... From the words to little snyth part he plays .. Hell ya! .. It didn't hit me that mountain game doesn't even have that part(not lyrics wise but..) in the song until like the 20th time I played lol!!!
It would seriously be a blessing if or when he releases that live rehearsal .. Could be next year , 5 years ? Idk ... I kinda hope one day he finally just says fuxk it ... My fans really would love it so here ya go! Hehe

minor lyric correction: I'm hearing "I know I'm not the king" and not "even though I'm not the king"

also definitely hearing "hold the door"

Cannot stop listening to this song because of those acoustic guitars which are so uniquely AC-sounding,a somewhat odd thing considering how little they have incorporated that instrument in their recorded music after Sung Tongs/Prospect came out. Screens and sample in In the Flowers some exceptions on record that come to mind.

Then solo-wise, there's Pullhair, I am your eagle kisser, probably some others from that era I'm forgetting; the live pulleyes and wide eyed from 2012; but really not a whole lot else to speak of where they've used acoustic guitars that they actually played.

Best parts of this are the descending synths in the 'sometimes I gaze at the mountain/at the top of the mountain bits', which are sorta hard to hear, and the harps.
