thanks for the recs, peeps.

jfw7, i have a small but passionate place in m heart for a specific live brosport from that era that included some particularly full throated screams and high quality that i havent heard in years. im no x files fan but if you want to have an in depth conversation about the episode involing the kkk and an african-american-alien baseball player, well then im game.

2007 Bro Sport is what made everyone love the song, but 2009 is BEST.

Sydney, Paradiso are great. Royal Oak BroSport is my favorite AC moment ever.

Can we take a moment to discuss the unbelievable magic that is the Other Music 2004 show? It has got to be one of my favorite shows/recordings they have ever done hands down. Happy Singing Band->[untitled]->Lablakely Dress might be my favorite sequence of songs ever.

I want to find the best early strawberry jam material.

route du rock to transition out of high-energy feels period
paradiso to get the messy early versions
variety playhouse was my very first AC boot so i gotta rep that (not super quality though)
bowery ballroom shows are very often great, no exception with the 2006 recording.

i don't have a ton of SJ boots—are there many recordings of them performing the studio lyrics without MPP material?

e: honestly this was a weird time for "normal" ac shows. there were a couple of avey/kria tours in 05/06 that produced good acoustic recordings; panda goes on the first person pitch tours; the 2005 BBC set that is basically ac seen through the lens of person pitch (or pre-MPP); the acoustic rock herk show (feels material).

i'm sure somebody else would have stronger recommendations

Okay I will upload them tonight so check back later. Both are very long. The Feels/Strawberry Jam stuff was compiled by someone on the old board. The 2007-2009 comp. I made myself. I edited all of my favorite live versions from that era to create the greatest AC setlist of all time! I hope you dig it!

Hi. That was me. I'm surprised that still circulates, and now I'm having flashbacks to 2009, when I made those compilations. I did one for 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2009. (I think.) My criteria were simple: I wanted to include nearly every played song on that year's tours, and I wanted only the highest quality recording of each. (2008 had no quality recordings, so I never bothered making a comp.) In the originals I also included medleys with transitions, when songs bled into one another. However, it looks like my original compilation has been edited down into single song mp3's, and re-tagged. The 2006 folder, for example, is missing several of the more obscure songs. Looks like maybe they were removed to make it fit on a CD. Like, in 2006, I think I also had Bonfire. Treeman. Another White Singer. Muffins. They played Winter's Love in '06, like, once, way before 2009, when it showed up again and sounded different. Maybe a couple other odd songs. Oh well, c'est la vie....

I think the compilations turned out nicely, and I still listen to them from time to time. Good stuff. I love quality live recordings. Crowd noise pisses me off, so I gravitate to soundboard almost exclusively. So that's what I looked for when I selected tunes.

I'm not fond of this seemingly never-ending Centipede era, so these days I patiently wait for new songs. But that's off-topic, so I will retreat back into my anonymous void of silence.

Soundboard is a term used to describe bootlegs that are recorded out of the sound engineer's mixing console as opposed to a bootleg made by someone in the crowd holding a microphone in the venue room. Generally soundboard recordings are deemed as higher quality, but some think they lack spatiality and that the mix is uneven (vocals being too high, etc.).

I love the Noah's Ark recording. Their rework of I Remember Learning How To Dive is awesome and I can't stop listening to the second song they play. Is that the only known recording of these songs?

The first page of this thread has an archive of the recordings by year. It is under 2011 :)

edit: looks like that link is dead. I'll reup it to sendspace or something and jonothan can update the first post!

Avey Tare said in a recent interview that they record most of their shows themselves to listen back to. Are all the bootlegs on here from fans? Are any of the early ones from the band?

Really loving the acoustic ones with early sung tongs/prospect hummer jams

Big Sur 2009 is a soundboard recording that was released by one of their crew members. The rest are a combination of audience recordings (soundboard and/or room), professional recordings that were done with permission by the band (ex: nyctaper) or rips of soundboards/videos from festivals or other shows that are high quality.
