Coolness is having courage
Courage to do what is right
Try to remember always
Just to have a good time

summertime clothes has some of my favourite AC lyrics of all.

"it doesn't really matter, i'll go where you feel
hunt for the breeze, get a midnight meal
i point in the windows, you point out the parks
rip off your sleeves and I'll ditch my socks"

"let's leave the sound of the heat for the sound of the rain
it's easy to sleep when it wets my brain
it covers my rest with a saccharine sheen
kissing the wind through my window screen"

I really love the second to last verse in Alvin Row! ("I remember the day when I walked away from this empty flight...") Hell, the whole song is just great

"Am I really all the things that are outside of me?" from Taste is also pretty cool!

I really love these lines in Bees:

Please take your time
I take my time

It's perfect for such a calm, drifting song, but it's also like a perfect description of Animal Collective's attitude towards music. They have a lot of songs, Bees included, that really require a lot of patience but pay off hugely in return. Songs like The Softest Voice, Penny Dreadfuls, Visiting Friends, and Banshee Beat. Banshee Beat might even be the best example.

That's one thing that I think really separates AnCo from other bands (at least in popular music). They kind of operate on a different level, creating these amazing builds using extended song structures, repetition, and free-flowing tempos. It's almost feels like meditation when you listen to a song like Bees or The Softest Voice or Visiting Friends, ya know?

the middle bit of street flash may be my favourite AC lyrics.

the room is still a little hot
and I don't break til a midnight shock
"are you coming out tonight?"
pretend I will, "well, I just might"
the room is filled with ancient dates,
where ive been and what i ate
before I'm asked to throw them out
i play with every little doubt
the room is filled with gummy bears
electric shavers, ingrown hairs
i keep the curtains tied in knots
i sleep on cotton, rest in cots
the room is filled with catalogues,
encyclopedias, books enough,
to keep me busy in the morning
sun sets fast without a warning
the room is filled with cords and plugs
electronic translucent bugs
and whats that crawling all around?
whats that twitching, is it still ALIVE!?

(i know these were posted already but a decent amount of the lyrics were wrong)

I don't know how
- Avey Tare

If I thought about it some more or heard it recently I probably could
come up with my favorite lyric, but this one works... From a song
referred to only as "photographs," performed during Avey's late 2011
tour for Down There. One of my favorite AC-related live recordings
is from this same tour at the knitting factory, Brooklyn, NY on 12.2.201,
highly recommended !!! I believe I got it from this website.. personal
favorites are 'Sometimes' and 'Song for Jerome,' both are unreleased
tracks from the same era, although Sometimes later showed up as the
AC single, Mountain Game, about 6 mo ago, following Painting With.

Speaking of unreleased Avey tracks, I absolutely love "oh how time flies, said my little cousins" from Saturdays

Sorry didn't mean to word that in a way that sounded like I was judging your tastes...ive just personally always found them kinda cheese and nonsensical. I don't see coolness, courage to do what's right, or having a good time as having anything to do with each other, but there is such sincerity in pandas voice, I have to accept his message

It's all good :) I mostly thought it was funny that I posted that because it feels like low hanging fruit to pick as favorite lyrics. They're not bad but I feel like there are a lot more weird/creative/thoughtful lyrics in the AC discog that I would pick now as favorites before those...also they come from the first song in one of the more accessible albums, not exactly a deep cut. The sentiment of "try to remember always have a good time" still resonates with me tho

Not to say that only the deep cuts can have good lyrics either... just thinking out loud here

Is there one sweet one that I must reach for, then I'm done? Is perfection a place or just a glimpse at hard work's face?

This line and the whole “in the mirror of the bathroom” refrain on “Flesh Canoe” are so hallucinatory and beautiful, giving hints about the dreamy sounds on the later part of the album:

“I'm just wondering what to do with you myself and me naked in the mirror of the bathroom”
