Great vibes in here!

I often wonder if the contemporary music I like now will be the "classic rock" of the future. It's a pretty strange thought, haha. I think Animal Collective is one of the most creative bands of my generation and has really pushed the bar for what music can express and how it expresses it. When I walked out of the theater after I saw ODDSAC, one of my thoughts was "Why don't other bands try to do stuff like that?" It's a really basic idea but only a group like Animal Collective could make it such an artistic statement. I feel like they are the Pink Floyd of my lifetime. The music of AC inspired me just as much as when I first discovered Pink Floyd. I am a musician and bands like these shape how I view the world.

Twenty years from now bands are still going to be catching up to Sung Tongs, or MPP. And in a way not unlike the VU, more people will be able to see the profound influence their experiments with sound had on the bands around them

I really like your VU and Pink Floyd comparisons. They did a lot of positive, avant garde moves back in the day that had huge impacts on their respective scenes. They also informed so many other rock bands and subgenres that followed

I think AC's noisey pop sensibilities will be remembered and mimicked in twenty years time, but more within the broad 'electronic' genre than within Rock. I also think their approach to the 'collective' side of their line up will be influential to future pop music acts. Their history as long time friends and the come-and-go nature of its members is pretty unique in comparison to big acts like the VU and Floyd. Those bands, like the Beetles, were unable to overcome inner turmoils and fueds, which were the main causes of their declines/break ups. AC's longevity will be reflexive of their relationships as friends as well as their lack of being into hard drugs and constant partying
