Also yeah it would make more sense and be less controversial if this thread was just called AC Album XII.

No one has a problem with not counting ACB with the rest right?

but then why count hollindagain.

ask Dave

also Hollinn was all the same era, released not long after they played that material. ACB is a retrospective. It's like Anthology or something to me.

yeah i def wouldn't count acb, but hollin is sketchy too. what did mr dave say? it all unique save for danse, but its still not done in the studio ya know? this is all semantics still but its fun to discuss.

Honestly I dunno why anyone would call it a studio album but Hollinndagain and ODDSAC are both "proper albums" to me and central parts of their album discog, unlike ACB and TTG

Practically all the stems are from their own studio recordings they worked on individually I think. The "live" part is just that they recorded some stuff from the actual guggenheim exhibit too.

By your standards, I feel like TTG is just as much an album as oddsac or hollin. You can even buy the record on vinyl/cd right? The exhibit is separate from the recordings that they released imo.

They never promoted it as an album or called it that, as far as I'm aware. And it's closer in length to Fall Be Kind than of their main albums. It's so much more like a commissioned piece than ODDSAC, like The Knife's Tomorrow in a Year or something.

yeah if anything its an ep, but yeah it has a particularly strange context and stuff. definitely not a full length like we seem to be counting tho.

The guys should give Steve Albini a call and record at Electrical Audio, Panda would get his best drum sound ever.

every album except for chz (nd spirit but wasnt rly ac back then) they have limited themselves to certain gear.... eg sungtongs acoustic mpp samplers feels guitars
but chz they used everything nd didnt have limits of sound
so where do they go from here in terms of instruments
panda i want u exclusively limited to playing a moog voyager then we'll c how u handle urself

I don't think they really limited themselves to guitars with feels

If that's the case then Sung Tongs wouldn't count as an AC record either, since that one also only involved members Dave and Noah.

it's not that, it's the fact that Dave wrote all of the songs on his own and kind of got Noah in later to play drums for the album once he'd prepared everything, whereas with Sung Tongs it was the two of them working on songs together and then touring them. Spirit was originally intended to be Dave's solo album but he appreciated Noah's drumming so much they released it as Avey Tare and Panda Bear instead of just Avey Tare. I don't think Noah really had a part in the songwriting process in quite the same way that all the members involved in each of their subsequent albums do.

Danse was their first record with more than one of them bouncing ideas back and forth and jamming and stuff and working on songs together, from what I can tell. I think that's why there are a few more "jams" on Danse like the Round Ball songs, Manatee Dance, White Singer

edit: now I think about it though, both the untitled track and Someday sound pretty jammy

Nah he's a really nice and reasonable guy, he's just not afraid to voice his opinions so people mistake him for being uptight/easily annoyed.

Fav Albini fact: he was the recording engineer for harp & vocal parts on Ys

Can you imagine the guy who sang "I'm God's gift to women, they always want my dick" recording Monkey & Bear?

They started the Miami Mixcloud set with GFOTY. That's really the only thing I can think of.

PC Music has definitely had a significant effect on music this year (for anyone who's kept up with them) but I don't know if they're exactly influencing anybody. Would b cool tho

I wouldn't be surprised by them using acoustic guitars. I'd really love that. Who knows. There's not many environments or soundscapes I feel they haven't covered already. Unless they go super dark. Darker than Oddsac and here comes the Indian.

I wouldn't be surprised if they work at rare book room with Nicholas Vernhes

I think the ultimate question is. For live shows. Will panda sing or drum?

albums gotta bring back natural textures yo! Primarily acoustic songs written with full band arrangements, concentration on writing GOOD SONGS and getting weird and creative and jammy, like the acoustic versions of CHz songs for that one thing...so many hopes...

This was just mentioned in the PBVSGR thread, but it's a good point - in the past, some Panda Bear solo material has worked its way onto AC records, such as Guys Eyes. They could end up taking influence from the style of PBVSGR, and possibly even rework some of the songs he's been playing live

^The craziest thing about that idea is how different it would sound, if we're using the change from Song for Ariel to Guys Eyes as a precedent. Can you imagine a similar transformation occurring to any of the PBvsGR trax? I can't even begin to think what that would sound like

Yes but I doubt that will happen. The reason it worked for that era (Person Pitch/MPP) is because they had a similar setup and sound. Avey has stated that he's not really into electronic stuff right now. Deakin is deeking. Geo is probably game for whatever. Seems like the four of them together will take the opportunity to write TOGETHER and find a sound they all agree on in the same room.

After CHz, I want to hear the guys do something very stripped down. Just 4 instruments and vocals (and harmonies damnit!!). Picture the radio take of Wide Eyed with P-Bear on the drums. Avey back on guitar (maybe even some live electric acoustic stuff!), Deakin on bass (killed it on the live WWIW?S), Panda playing a full kit again (new and improved), and Geo on synths/samples.

Thank god they don't listen to you guys and just do what they want. A lot of bands go under for this reason. This is coming from someone who loves CHz though, keep that in mind. Stripped down is what I'm hoping for but dang the rest is way too specific and needy. I will be happy with what they make most likely. 10+ great albums isn't a bad precedent. They know what to do.

Good point on the Panda stuff though.

Ok but like what if Geo decided he didnt want to do synth shit anymore and then there'd be no electronics. Actually thatd be pretty neat, Id like to hear what theyd sound like if Geo stayed out and the others stayed in.
