I kind of hope for another 1 off recorded in 1 take a la tangerine reef after this, maybe just avey geo and deakin again even just for a low key release

actually thinking about it could see Dave recording something with gator pools which could fill a similar role, if they end up working together more

Would love a Panda and Deakin version of this. Like a 2024 equivalent of that one amazing Japan boot.

I hope that Panda and Deak’s working relationship expands if they end up collaborating on Sinister Grift. I would absolutely love a full release that’s just the two of them jamming

Top 7 AC live boot. And to think it turned out that way cause Avey was super scared of flying and skipped going to Japan. I asked Deakin about that "Can I Take A Walk With You" song on an IG post and he said he has no memory of it, lol. Funny how somethings can be so iconic to us, but are just a moment in life to a musician. But yeah, a Panda/Deakin release would be fucking amazing.

I'd love the next album to just be a hour of techno tribal trance stuff with avey and panda just chanting and screaming. like the middle of bro sport or guys eyes for an hour.

Stuff that works like Mr. Fingers. Also please play Mr. Fingers live. Either way progress the Hurdy Gurdy style sound and go ham on tribal drumming and vocal FX... also play What Happened? live. even if it's basically just a strawberry jam song. has that similar feeling to Winter Wonderland in that way to me

been theorizing about what the next album might feel like, and while I'd like the idea of the samplers coming back, the techno fluttering in, the neo-folk freejazz freakouts coalescing, etc., I'm going to make a left-field prediction and say the next record is going to be an ambient folksy rock record. it's going to be their full-fledged pavement/silver jews/g dead/v underground tribute. I'm talking an all the way back to automine type of deal.

the data we have to go off is: soul capturer is the most recently written song from the latest era (I think?) and the sound they seem psyched on (hence lead single), avey saying he wanted his next stuff to be less structured/more "pulled apart" (in that interview someone posted on medium I think), another interview where he said "cloud stop rest start" is where he felt he was headed. I don't know, obviously that last song is not really folk rock like I'm prophesizing, but I think these big, layered, and tightly structured epics are going to give way to something simple, flowy, gutsy, rootsy, a little dusty and deep fried.

They each take turns doing spoken word beat poetry while the others click and shuffle their feet. Noah's verse is about masturbation

Geo sings and it is glorious

We really need an album with Avey and Panda both on guitar. Considering the deal with Soul Cap and Sinister Grift, it just seems like the right time. It's surprising that they haven't done a return to the Sung Tongs sound together considering they were working on Eucalyptus and Buoys around the same time, but I would much rather they go for that slacker rock/folk rock sound. And I'd like Deak to stay on keys, he really shines with that role

i think this'll happen, but i think we're many years off from this iteration. after such a "traditional" rock band set up the past era, i think we're in for a pretty big switch up sound-wise and set-up wise

All but confirmed they'll be focusing on side-project/solo/one-off stuff for a while but hope they do something loose and chill for whatever their next album proper is. I can't imagine there will be drastic gear/setup changes but I think they'll push their core setup into exciting new territory (A la Feels->SJ). I could see Avey giving bass guitar a break?

Who would we want on their RAM-style collaborative album? Madlib, Oneohtrix Point Never, Lizzi Bougatsos, Black Dice, Mica Levi, Cindy Lee

woah that's a great crew right there. you nailed the core group for sure...

i'd add Bradford Cox, Grouper, Fleet Foxes, Angel, Sarah Louise, Rivka Ravede

Braxe and Falcon for the legitimate RAM connection. Let's hear an AC house banger.

New setup:

Panda: acoustic guitar, vocals and effects
Avey: acoustic guitar, vocals and effects
Deakin: piano, vocals and bare-bones percussion (a tom and a crash cymbal)
Geo: hurdy-gurdy and house beats

There's an interview with Zach Hill where he says Death Grips have always wanted to collab with AC. Dean blunt would be cool considering he's already worked with panda.

An album w/the xiu xiu OH NO format where every track has a guest vocalist could be pretty fun...
been dying for a proper animal collective/black dice collab FOREVER though... they can call it ABCD...

Brilliant! Not my fav Xiu Xiu record but it has grown on me. A lot. Jamie is one of the few artists who, IMO, is as relentlessly inventive as AC, if not more so. I would think not a few collected animals would love A Promise, La Foret, Knife Play, Girl With Basket of Fruit… even OH NO. Like AC, so much to discover outside of his LPs too.

A few of the ily's songs sound like they could very easily be AC songs, or at least I thought so

Funny that we’re all assuming that all four will be involved in whatever’s next. Do we have any reason to think they will be? Or is it just our default? Deakin seems to be ramping up solo stuff, and I could see him take a break to focus on that. And Panda has so many irons in the fire, who knows. I hope it’s all four. But it seems like the direction of the next album could be just as much shaped by the people involved as by instrument and setup choices.

I think a Deak/Geo/Avey album feels the most likely at this point if it is not all 4. As far as the sound I have no idea but that is kind of why we all like this band in the first place

I think with the popularity of the Taylor Swift re-records the band should re-record MPP and CHZ without Ben Allen and make up for their mistakes.

With Avey having just released a solo album, Sinister Grift still brewing and Deakin saying he’s starting to gather together his next studio release, it’s possible Avey and Geo will do another project just the two of them. Especially after their upcoming tour dates. Might be discussing ideas for something while Josh and Noah work on solo stuff.

I'd rather have them open up the live archives and release some sound board recordings on Bandcamp.
I've been listening to campfire songs yesterday and thought how awesome it would be if they would do some live shows playing the whole thing and have pitchfork document the show as they did for Sung Tongs.

That would be incredible. A modern take on Campfire Songs with everything they’ve learned along the way would sound amazing.
