Really though this is dubious. This isn't a new interview or something, it seems like a misremembered version of that geo post about micing up the bathroom.

Interestingly I went to see if the author of the review would be in a position to have any insider info and it turns out he's Argyle Rings. While he did perform the absolute most faithful AC covers I've ever heard, and clearly has a grasp of how their music is constructed, I don't buy it.

Sorry unrelated

What do people mean when they say AC/PB songs are dubious? Is it just because they use a lot of delay? I don't know enough about doubt to really understand the comparison

It would just be a synonym for nebulous or vague in that context. Delay makes things less "readable" and therefore leaves doubt regarding a sound's "identity".

Alright, given the more intensive research, i feel like I should come clean. I wasn’t going to say something but now I feel like I’m obligated to. The author is an old friend of mine irl. I believe I originally told him that years ago - I was misremembering and conflating those two stories, as you assumed. I suppose it’s possible he also conflated the two stories, but I’m fairly certain I’m to blame for planting that in his head years ago. While I think it is more fun to believe it’s true, I don’t think it is, because I think you hit the nail on the head, but I am to blame rather than him.

Regardless, I agree with you that his AC covers (and his original music!!) are amazing. And this thread is definitely a highlight of CA within the last few years

Congrats on starting one of the greatest AC myths. In thirty years when the AC retrospective documentary comes out, the piss recording will be wheeled out like an epitaph etched in granite. You'll be like that grandma in the meme trying to explain that you actually started it because of a misunderstanding and some people will be nodding and side eyeing, helping you back to the nursing home but we'll all be watching and getting up out of our seats shaking our fists and we will never forget your contribution. X
