Beautiful new songs, as usual. Echoing what was said above about hoping all the pitch bending of the guitar stays in the recorded versions. Gives this material a nice spooky edge. Love of my life has such a great melody.

wow ends meet is seriously fantastic. it distills everything that makes panda's music great so wonderfully with such simple ingredients. fun, playful chords and melody, totally danceable and joyous but still with surprises around every corner. emotionally vivid and complex.

Yeah Ends Meet is great. Big PP + Tomboy vibes. I could see all the new ones being my favorites. The slow ones are just hitting the hardest right now. The Inner Monologue rework is beautiful too. Really cool stuff.

I dig it.
New. Sounds so natural, like it's always been part of the song

ends meet is such a banger. out in the cold is really haunting. the guitar tone and playing style makes it sound like a long-lost feels era song, sounds like early flesh canoe or 206 but with a gorgeous panda melody

He's gotta play Ponytail at some point during this era, it would fit like a glove. Religious bop is great, almost feels too short though... i think love of my life is my favorite, so deep and romantic, like watching a sunset on the ocean.

Inner monologue sounds like young prayer genuinely. I never thought he would sound like that again. Why? I can't elaborate. Buoys was absolutely fucking fantastic and had me gobstopped with the crows and shit for when i realized it was buoys. Second song was amazing but i feel like he self sabotaged it with the pitch shifting. Pitch shifting sounded way better in the slower spacier songs iirc. I'll probably love it in like 2 listens

i totally thought these were gonna be songs with those dub/reggae samples he posted on twitter. more tricks up the sleeve
loving religious bop and s of e the most
edit: i hope the pitch bending/string shifting makes it to the final versions
I feel like "Religious Bop" must have come out of some of that dub exploration, such a jam and that beat is pure dub!

Same... back when I first joined this board *tear* . It really feels like a hybrid of Tomboy/Young Prayer/and Buoys. I hope this more pared-down aesthetic translates to the studio versions!

Curious to see how Love of my Life translates to a Noah/petek setup

Can't be a digitakt, it's missing the midi i/o and it wouldn't be of much use with a mixer sitting right on top of it.

Thoughts on the new tracks now that I've had some more time to listen to them
Ends meet - nice hooky pop songwriting, love the parts with the sustained falsetto notes and the guitar going in and out of key.
Left in the cold - fucking massive and cinematic but also simple and intimate at the same time, the kind of thing only he can pull off. Feels like he perfected the crooner style vocal delivery he's been going for. A favorite.
Religious Bop - feels like a classic dub track, his voice is really beautiful here. Another favorite.
S of e - basically have the same feelings about this one as left in the cold, although I might like the former a little more. Both those tracks are like wondering through quiet, rain swept cities just before sunrise, dark and mysterious.
Love of my life - probably my favorite track, reminds me of the first time I heard selfish gene on the 2013 atp boot. Just gorgeous, romantic melodies. That little descending doot doot doo part (he's definitely saying actual words but I have no idea what) just kills me.

Dabubs is the best. Fucking vibing on the wonky guitar! I love it so much. S of E is incredible. I've got a wild theory here, or maybe just a dream so bear with me... He's played Song for Ariel live many times, right, even after Guys Eyes was a thing? What if he just re-recorded it with those new parts as "Song for Ariel" on whatever he's working on? We got a two different versions of Preakness after all.

This version of token is really great. Found it pretty goofy at first but really loving it. Gives the song a lot of breathing room... "yes I doooooooo" links it to Song for Ariel quite nicely as well as the riffy vocal additions to buoys. Can anyone make out words in that part of buoys? "meet me at the baababababa" hahaha
Religious bop is great too, though I've been so enamoured by the first half of the set that I haven't sunk too much into this or the later tracks yet. Love the sort of unusual 6/8 rhythm here, harks back to Slow Motion, but for me actually moreso evokes last night at the jetty for some reason

Comparisons to Tomboy seem most appropriate to me here. Obvious I guess given electric guitar has barely appeared anywhere else in PB's discography.
On Tomboy he wrung out every idea from the world of that stark guitar tone. It was such a thorough and complete investigation of that sound world, I'm not surprised he moved away from guitar for so long after that.
Here it's like oh hey, there are more stones to turn in electric guitar land. And his writing has developed so much in that time. We get the core elements of Tomboy married with the warmest parts of Person Pitch, the darkest parts of PBVSGR and the minimalism he acquired a taste for on homies/buoys.

I jammed this last night while playing Metal Gear Solid 4... felt so right to play a slightly clunky but visionary PS3 era title, high poly, low texture quality, really fitting
crazy how his guitar tone is so often kinda the same throughout this... and its often a pretty simple tone I feel like I could achieve with my own cheap shit guitar and a bit of chorus and not much else (other than the cool pitch-shifty stuff) but that also might be because its just a recording.
but its a sick recording, flows so nice, these songs really go together. should he just re-release Buoys, Token and Ariel again....? (forreal, maybe just finally record Ariel... its hardly Guys Eyes at all or, Guys Eyes is hardly it... and Avey kinda did a solo AND "band" version of Selection of a Place (or at least, one with Geo/the Amazon)
