this is correct I’m pretty sure. My sloppy notes agree with it anyway

Gem and I sounded fucking amazing too. Deak does these low droney vocals during the verses now and it changes the vibe of the whole thing in this really great way. Sounds darker or something.

Sorry fellas I failed you guys on the boot end, was hard to focus on the show while worrying about recording. Chose being present in the moment, but it seems like a boot is likely coming anyway if hunks recorded it.

Yeah, so far the trip has definitely proved to be worth it tho. And yes, gotta see them if they come to that area next year.
One last thing, almost 100% sure Avey sang "someone is Tom Hanks" during the last verse of Cherokee. The lyrics to that song seem extra goofy now. Almost reminded me of Stereo by Pavement.

Glad you're having a good time, I've never been down there. I would have made the trip there or Cincinnati if I didn't have life in the way.
In reality, I'm seething with thinly veiled jealousy.

wonder if defeat being in the live rotation means it made it to the album sessions after all
also gotta say pretty much every new song other than cherokee was pretty greatly improved! real excited for the new deak songs

Does this mean you don’t like what they did to Cherokee or that it didn’t change much?? I’d be so sad if that song got worse…

Cherokee video
I just noticed but is Avey singing about Black Mountain College somewhere in there? Haha. Cool. He really loves Asheville.

^the alleged "tom hanks" line occurs at 5:48. i'll let you decide for yourself.
excited at the very high probability that we'll get a HD shot/recorded set from them playing pitchfork. Hopefully someone records it when its live streaming (I don't know how to do that w/audio being recorded along with video)

yea not too excited about the changes to cherokee but glad the autotune has returned!

according to someone on the subreddit the middle section of defeat has gotten another rearrangement and apparently sounds awesome, so excited to hear it
also seconding not being huge on the cherokee changes. something i remember from the 2019 mini-tour is that cherokee got somewhat revamped right after the first show, wondering if that sorta thing might happen again here? probably just wishful thinking. and yea that sounds unambiguously like "tom hanks" to me lmao
Strong feelings about this but I will save my final thoughts until I hear some bootz

getting irrationally anxious about downdowndowndown and strangers not being played even tho i know that realistically means nothing lmao. also i see the trend of treating gem and i and bolder as a pair has been held over from 2019, makes me think they'll definitely be next to each other on the record.
up to 15 different potential album cuts now assuming they've held onto everything from 2019 (which isn't a given, i wouldn't be surprised if they dropped appreciate considering it only got played the one time at meow wolf)

the middle section of cherokee seemed more subdued this time around, but the autotune was pretty cool

The Tom Hanks line lol
Yeah they seem to have just made Cherokee more difficult to play or something. Sounds a little subdued.

Avey said the album is "coming soon but not soon enough"
Prob get the lead single next summer smdh

It sounded like he said it "is" coming soon enough to me, fwiw.
Also, like I said I didn't get any full boots, but I did get this single haphazardly recorded snippet of the second half of Prester John that I can tease you guys with til a full boot does come.
some of those songs are going to be cut to make the hour for Pitchfork and that bums me out. Almost wish I got a Friday pass instead of weekend and followed them for a few shows.

My pipe dream for these shows is that they bring back bat you'll fly... i can picture exactly what it would sound like with the current instrument lineup....

my main opinion is just that i think they kinda cut down on the intensity of the song’s climax a lot which was like my favorite part of it! i just really enjoyed avey going full energy into that repeated autotune bit at the end instead of the current iteration where the lines seem to be split between him and deakin and are a lil more subdued

I think the only thing I really dislike about the new Cherokee is how Avey doesn't really belt out the chorus anymore, it's all done in the same sort of subdued voice he does the verses in. But I actually love what they did with the second part of the song, it's a bit more subtle than before but it still sounds totally magical to me. Love how the vocal fx make Aveys voice sound like a kazoo.
If I could throw a coin into the 'bring back an old song fountain' it would be for Gotham (or other chz songs that haven't been played in a while, e.g. Today's supernatural, mercury man, father time). They would fit the vibe really nicely, I think. Pulleys has been played enough times IMHO.
This is probably never going to happen, but a full band de Soto de son would likely rip a hole in the fabric of time and space. They brought back pride & fight for the painting with shows so I still have a tiny amount of hope for de Soto de son to make a glorious return some day.

yeah, damn though that part made the entire song for me when I heard it at Desert Daze. Oh well, there’s also no guarantee that the versions they’re playing live right now are the same as the studio versions

I don't love it as much either but whatever, embrace the change... might not have any bearing on the studio version. that part of that song was freaking perfect 2 falls ago... time flies

can’t wait to hear fickle cycle! stoked they brought that one back.
if we can assume anything, it’s that the studio versions will sound drastically different than the live versions

I sure hope they don’t leave it out. It was one of my favorites they debuted on that tour. Single performance be damned, it’s good enough to be a single imo

Have to imagine these versions are closer to the studio cuts than those from two years ago
