I think you usually need some kind of beat if you're going to be rapping though.

spoken word maybe? but I don't see the point then. he's not a hip hop producer and I doubt he ever will be. I shouldn't rule anything out though.

Well i was just thinking he could create a set of cool loops and rhythmic instrumentals that'd work for that sort of thing. Doesn't have to be hard-hitting beats or anything, just a more chilled out set of textures and samples that could be rapped over.

Anyway, i'm pretty psyched for the Deakin progress, i haven't heard his boots in over a year so i'll be able to go in fresh!

If you look at the fact that it's been 4 years since he promised to make an album in Africa then probably not for a looooooong time. I wouldn't be surprised if he hasn't even recorded anything yet.

although there are parts in transverse temporal gyrus that sound pretty similar to Jailhouse...
knowing that there are unreleased deakin/panda/avey tracks on TTG makes me think some of that stuff is unreleased geo which is cool

You can hear everything he did for TTG if you download the stems for it. But that's not exactly solo material since it was always intended to be part of the bigger thing.

nope.

and the Mali thing was originally going to be made with recordings from his live shows in Mali so definitely not instrumental. Absolutely no idea what it's going to be like now though. He said he felt like he didn't have enough audio by the time he'd finished.

So it seems pretty up in the air.

This seems like it's becoming his defaco debut solo record, which is probably why it took him so long to finish recording. I'm saying this because he mentioned already writing new songs for his next proper record.

All of the original ideas have been morphed at this point. He told Evan and I that the DVD was basically either replacing the art book or becoming something for everyone (this was in the fall of 2012 so obviously things could have changed even more). And now I guess posters are replacing photos! Sweet

wait Ethmin I meant it sounds like everyone is going to get everything no matter how small or big their donation was, so yes you will get your DVD, I wasn't directing my post at you at all, it was a purely hypothetical thing. I just donated $50 for the CD but it would be sweet if I ended up getting everything, and I honestly do hope people who donated more don't feel bad about that

I agree. No one could have predicted this whole ordeal would happen so to be bitter about paying more for something (over 4 years ago...) that everyone else may possibly also get is pointless.
