Looking forward to the single/ep that contains og faces + jabbawaqy and hopefully that unreleased comp that noah had ready but domino decided to replace w/ mix ticks eventually gets into our collective grasp. (this is where i'm imagining new preakness + hopefully atiba w/out skateboard sfx and despersonalizacao will end up)
even though this seems ages away RSD is coming up in April and i'm sure he'll put out something then too

yea i can't wait! but i think i might one of the few who actually really likes the skateboard samples in atiba

also since i don't think anyone has mentioned it yet, there are totally some elements of despersonalizacao in lonely wonderer. i know atleast that really deep repeating bass note, but i feel like theres some more that i can't pinpoint yet.

Both sample Debussy's Arabesque I, although in Despersonalizacao it has some sort of effect applied to it like a phaser or something, so it's a little harder to hear

Really, Lonely Wanderer is that snippet from Despersonalizacao, just mixed differently and turned into a full song with lyrics

Black Friday would be a surprisingly fitting day to release Boys Latin. We don't appreciate our things indeed.

I think I'm going to delete the freebird just from a quality standpoint. I think it sounds like crap to me. I want to hear this in all its glory, this is the worst possible tease ever.

Pumped to listen, been holding out for the vinyl but I'm not sure I can make it. :/ Man, most of you guys' reactions have me fully stoked though. The live show was incredible but I'm always so excited to hear what he (AC in general) does to everything in the studio.

Yeah, the freebird is p bad quality. I didn't notice til playing through speakers. Its hard to focus on the tracks when you can hear the bad quality.

absolutely. not sure if most are listening to this on shitty Apple buds or laptop speakers, but on my house system, this sounds like dog shit. I will not ruin what will be an awesome experience for myself. driving me nuts now because I can taste it!

Listen to the Mr.Noah mp3 from the official EP release and then listen to the freebirded Mr. Noah from the album. There is a slight quality change, but if you think this freebird sounds like crap, the slight improvement might not change much for you.

no I edited from 'toothed' to 'to the'

it really bothers people that this sounds bad to my ears? why

the difference in the ep to the freebird is pretty big imo. especially in clarity and volume.

I've listened to this probably about 5 times all the way through so far, and it's gotten to 10/10. I wasn't completely sure at first, but now I'm all in.

Also, I for one am glad that he didn't do the high parts at the end of Selfish Gene. A) I think it fits better with the song as a whole and B) Now I get to sing those high parts and harmonize with Panda myself :)

correct me if im wrong but did the bridge (and ones a friend of mine...) melody change in BBCM?

Spoiler: show
I was expecting belting at the end of Selfish Gene where he sings "You'll trip up again", like in the boots. Disappointed at first but it works nicely without it. And the horns at the beginning of Tropic of Cancer give me medieval vibes and make me reminiscent of my RS playing days. I was expecting a more powerful "dead or alive", and not for it to be that soft and angelic, gave me so many goosebumps lol. Also for some reason I keep expecting Untying the Knot to come right after Tropic. As soon as Lonely Wanderer started, it gave me this imagery of an underwater sunken shipwreck. I think I watched a documentary or movie or something that used the same track by Debussy as well
GL to the ppl waiting for their goodies to come in the mail, it'll be well worth it! :)

Yup, it's lower. I watched a live clip where he sang it like that too, but I forgot what show it was

do it. hold out. it's a pain reading these posts bc the album is pretty much all I'm waiting for in my life right now but I'll tell you what, I went into Darkside's 'Psychic' on my birthday for the first time a whole month after it released and the hype surrounding that listen made that whole moment a life-changer. If you do the same for PBVSGR and avoid this freebird, I guarantee you'll probably die from sonic bliss and satisfaction when the needle picks itself up in January

my 2ยข at least... y'all are really killing me and my pathetic amount of patience though

I just did this before I read your post, and there really is a significant difference. There aren't very many elements to the songs (including mr. noah) and everything sounds very muddled, and different tracks within the songs seem to occupy the same frequencies on the freebird. The HQ release will sound quite different imo.

I have a couple 'problems' with the record though. When I heard the EP I was really excited that PB had largely ditched the reverb, but it shows up massively on about half the record. I don't like how the vocal production varies so wildly.

My other issue is with Tropic of Cancer. He's straight up flat on the first time he sings "laughed". It's hard of hard to ignore. Also, I was kind of shocked that he chose to sing the "dead or alive" part in his false(etto) voice, and not his true chest voice. He nailed those high notes so well in the live shows I saw and I feel like the record version is kind of ball-less.

The glitch in ToC kind of reminds me of the little vocal hiccup that was in the single version of Last Night at the Jetty. Or California Demise 3 where the OTC left a skip in on purpose, but that was alre-ready their style anyway. The LNATJ hiccup got smoothed out in the album version, so I can't imagine they would overlook something like that in Tropic, especially when it's such a fragile ballad with up-front vocals.

^^^^^^^^this!

I gotta say tho, literally my only complaint upon first listen was the album not ending with the Apocalypse Now sample into THX drone.

However, that has changed because Acid Wash exists and its perfect.

Also, here's to hoping Apoc/THX closing out the next EP and also therefore closing out the Grim Reaper era

You say the end of the reaper era, but one of the thing that makes me love AC is that the recorded versions aren't really the songs in their final forms. Whatever live version panda plays at any given time is the current "final form".
