College,Baby Day, and Guys Eyes do. Other than that not really. Its just an easy comparison for lazy writers to fall back on because they have wall of sound production and vocal harmonies.
You're hilarious.
It's the complex vocal harmonies and the child-like whimsy that so many people find easy comparisons to the Beach Boys. If we're talking Brian in particular, then there are loads of musical associations. You're insane if you think it's only 3 tunes and "other than that not really."

Depends. How familiar are you with the Beach Boys/Brian Wilson's work? Animal Collective is littered with ideas from their late 60's tunes.
Of course I'm not saying they're biting their style or anything silly like that, but to say you don't recognize the similarities is admitting your own ignorance about the Beach Boy's work.
btw, sup w these youtube tags? None of em are working for me so I took em out.
I think you have to delete the 's' in the https to get the tags to work

Whatever happened with "Hocus Pocus" and "Summing the Wretch"? Did those l e a k or are they still locked down?
I also don't think the fact that the album is constantly being compared to the Beach Boys is a bad thing (I mean, they did record at the same studio as Pet Sounds so that was going to garner that comparison by default)... But also, maybe the record is SO UNIQUE (it is Animal Collective after all) that it's the only sonic comparison people can make? Though after reading it so many times it is pretty lazy of the journalists to keep going back to it...

really? yeah sometimes it seems like they are explicitly going for beach boys-style sounding harmonies, and i assume they'd admit that. think they kinda were thinking of BB for the bridge of Floridada (and that whole song is sorta Heroes and Villains-y..). i say the BB thing comes in mostly with panda and some of the vocal harmonies, but it shows up with avey too. feel like they prbly draw on bands like beatles and kinks nearly equally in terms of just having a 60s pop feelin sometimesg

oh yea oops
i think the studio version of guys eyes is probably somewhat of an ode to that song anyway. i just realized too that they have very similar intros. except that guys eyes has the AC filter thrown on

Dunno if anyone's posted this interview yet or if it got buried. Interesting read, it's in the interview thread too.
Highlight is them knowing about bathroom recordings

CP: What was the reaction? Was there a reaction? The band obviously has a dedicated group of fans. Did any show once the news became public? Do we know anything of their experience?
AT: I hear that the reaction was very positive overall, but I'm not one to troll around and look for press or comments about the band typically. I know a few AC fans made it over and even got some funny bathroom recordings of a couple of songs. That would make a cool release, I think. I'm glad at least once AC fan got to experience it, that's really all that matters to me.
HAHA! nice strangeClams
that's probably my favorite collected animals moment ...
if the band wants the beach boys comparisons to stop, avey should stop comparing the band to the beach boys haha

I see what you mean but I think he is saying that it is a pop song like california girls, not necessarily that it sounds like that song/the beach boys. Like california girls=pop song about a particular place, and floridada=pop song but more about the everywhere place.
I don't think the band has ever actually complained about the comparison(I could be wrong) but it's just getting old to see it pop up in every review. Or maybe he is talking about the katy perry song?

hah i just thought it was ironic that everyone in the thread is all "lazy beach boy comparisons" and that's one of the first things i saw in that interview (avey doing a beach boys comparison).
at atp 2009, deak and i were talking and he made a complaint to me about all the beach boys comparisons, while we were on line for a hot dog. good times.

beach boys comparisons are just people who are tryng to avoid BEAtles comparisons. and also cuz of like a "sunnier", more american take on pop harmonies, but also that. i mean who r we kidding, ac r beatles 2.0

Was it confirmed as 2 tracks? I thought someone posted a blurb or something that was in Japanese that mentioned just the 1 bonus track but I'm possibly misremembering.
