Wouldn't there have been some announcement if they planned to stream it?

I dunno, I feel like there have been plenty of instances of "x's album is now streaming!" on NPR when i've been holding out for a freebird (usually smaller, non freebird-worthy bands that i've had to rip from soundcloud)

I'll be absolutely staggered if they premiere this album on NPR.

it looks like last week npr tweeted out First Listen links a bit after midnight, early thursday morning. so if it happens, maybe they'll post their batch late tonight after midnight. (est)

id agree its probably a stretch that itll be there, but you never know.

Yeah I mean think about it, with chz they had that radio stream, all with unique amazing visuals. No way the boys would just whimper this record out on an npr stream, they'll have something much more creative up their sleeves if and when they decide to stream it.

^ Completely agree. They played this thing at an airport, and then released a painting app with a single, there is no way it just shows up on npr's website. That wouldn't be their style at all.

Yeah it's not going to be streamed before the second single is released. I'm expecting another surprise for the next single.

Nothing new here except a lyric from On Delay : 'the two of us together, on delay'

But another rave review for the record.

I'm trying to figure out the lyrics to Hocus Pocus. Its definitely a song about drugs. I think it might be directed towards their kids?
Spoiler: show
"So many ways, to wait feet un-der lines that bor-der us, come on
Don't take a shot, or smoke to trig-ger just a lit-tle bit, come on
Can't be a crime, to me-ddle,
Can't be wrong to, push the pe-ddle
Quesy and grime, no gavel
(???)"
Here are a few more random lines:
Spoiler: show
"So many times, the prints don't match the brush that paint-ed it, come on"
Spoiler: show
"Guarded lies don't tend to da-bble."
Spoiler: show
"Legalize this principal(principal)
Jump into a spot nonphysical(physical)
Bring it closer to the [???]
Want to write with control."

thanks Borchenko. also I obviously can't say this for sure since I haven't heard Hocus Pocus but I doubt it's "a song about drugs". Read some of the interviews from this cycle, the dudes say the songs are about a whole bunch of other stuff

done, my bad.

don't worry about being a guy, victor! i'm right there with you! you're not alone!!!

just to add, I don't mean Hocus Pocus is a song "just about drugs". To me, the lyrics seem to discuss the political/social side of drugs. also, the song sounds very druggy (dare I say it: trippy) compared to the already-released songs.

I finally get what people have been saying with the "educational vibe". it kinda sounds like the soundtrack to a satirical anti-drug video for kids. But that's just my take.

Broken record alert:

Painting with though brings them even closer to that pop sound; almost reinventing the Beach Boys sound with the melodies of Panda Bear and Avey Tare bouncing off, and wrapping round each other from the get go.

NE:MM: the fucking Beach Boys aren't the only goddamn band in the history of music to make harmonies. GOD.

The review formats so far:

Talk about how messy centipede hz was

talk about the success of merriweather

Talk about pw being a ramones record

lazy beach boys comparison /panda-brian wilson comparison

talk about floridada

talk about either bagels or lying in the grass

say it's really good

end review

I'm almost looking forward to the P4k review. At least they'll babble on about enchiladas, or something else unrelated.

it doesn't sound like avey tare just because the vocals are whispery lol

idk i just never understood the direct comparison personally but that's me I guess

I would say that these vocals are a bit closer to avey's 'tone'. still different regardless

here's a hot take: maybe AC sounds like Beach Boys in some ways but doesn't sound like them in some other ways. Or maybe they sound like them sometimes, but not all the time

College,Baby Day, and Guys Eyes do. Other than that not really. Its just an easy comparison for lazy writers to fall back on because they have wall of sound production and vocal harmonies.

a couple more reviews appeared on Metacritic - 3/5 in Q and Mojo.

That Q review seems to rate it lower just because it's not some accessible pop record, which seems silly. The full quote they give says "Choruses won't be bellowed, the air won't be punched, devotees will likely be delighted. "
