I dunno. Whenever I listen to it I envision that I just unknowingly ate mushrooms and wandered into a transsexual model show only to some how find myself on the runway and then proceed to rock that shit.

It's pretty kúl.

I used to refer to the ATP boot of Principe Real as 'Vampire Disco Orgy'....seemed oddly fitting.

Wow, excellent first post HZvalentine and welcome to the forum! I don't think I could have put it better myself, especially this part:
HZvalentine wrote:
I don't think 'perfect' exists in any sense of reality - but in the moment in the studio where he said 'it's done', he saw it as perfect and complete as it could be. We have to respect that decision - it won't change and it's done.

I think the problem with those of us who listened extensively to bootlegs (and I'd count myself among those people) is that we feel like we own these songs. After all, not many people knew about them for a long time, so it felt like we were in on something exclusive. And in addition to that, we got so accustomed to hearing certain versions of the songs to the point that it felt like they were practically tailored to our personal tastes and preferences.

It's cliché, but it makes me think of this platitude: If you love something, set it free. I think to really enjoy this album, you need to set this it free, so to speak. Let it be what it's supposed to be, and what Panda Bear intended it to be, instead of what you want it to be, and the album quickly reveals itself as an unprecedented masterpiece.

To think that PB simply overlooked the possibility of including the drops, or any other detail for that matter, is absurd in my mind. Like HZvalentine said, this guy is a pro (and so is PK). He didn't make these decisions lightly, and I trust his judgement. Think about who we're dealing with here. PB, along with AC as a whole, is notorious for practically never playing a song the same way twice. We never should have expected this album to cater to our tastes, or make things easy. Hell, we were even outright warned: Expect the Unexpected.

How many of us on this forum have had the experience when an AC album 'clicked' for you? I would expect every last one of us has experienced that. Before that moment happens, the album can be difficult to listen to, but that doesn't mean it's a failure. It's been less than 48 hours since this freebirded, so I think it's safe to say our impressions are still not fully formed.

For those who aren't enjoying the album, I don't want to say you're wrong, since everyone is entitled to their opinion. I also acknowledge the fact that some people may never fully enjoy the album, plain and simple. But I do encourage anyone who didn't like it to give the album a second (or third...or fourth...) chance and really trust PB on this one, because I think he's going places where no musician's gone before.

Totally agree with this and everyone else who mentioned it feels like a video game at times, especially the bit about the "clone-jump" vocals

I how the vocal echoes are kind of a motif throughout the album: Seq Circs, the bit in BBCM, Boys Latin of course, and Tropic of Cancer. Probably other spots too but I can't think of any off the top of my head

I'd echo everything said here, well put. You have to treat the live experience and the studio experience as entirely separate things. Neither one is meant to sound exactly like the other, and neither one is intended to serve the same exact purpose as the other.

PB is highly influenced by Enya; that first song you linked is one of her best. This album's production is essentially an update on Enya's style of production, granted with some really different writing. Two of my fave artists!

personally of the opinion that if you still have gripes along the lines of "it's not like it was at the show!" it should be up for re-examination because this isn't a live album. we'd all really like Fireworks to encompass another song and last 20 minutes but like Adjust Your Insides said AC studio and live are two entirely different realms

haha Seriously! People whining about quality are batshit nuts. No, it's not FLAC, but it sounds FINE. The notion of a slight quality difference ruining the album is absurd.

This album is damn powerful and much, much more satisfying than Tomboy. I usually don't abuse a new album but this has been on repeat nonstop and it only gets BETTER.

Also, what the hell... My account was disabled/deleted because I was inactive for a few months? That's some bullshit.

Enya is so underrated. The production on her earliest stuff in the '80s still sits amazing today. Noah needs to visit Ireland and make an EP with her, dammit!

finally listened after the ok by mr boom.

very very solid album!

tropic is perfect, so glad the echoes are in there. i don't mind the lack of the intensity after the echoes either, i think the soft vocals throughout are what makes it perfect.

i know some people aren't fans of davy jones and shadow but i actually really like them. id love to see AC explore that textural feel to shadow on their next album. that grind-y static noise is awesome. id love to see them explore that 'industrial' feel.

im also pleasantly surprised that i enjoyed the whole 7 min of CTYS, i feared it would drag on before i heard the album, but its been stuck in my head all day!

also acid wash is probably my favorite track atm. maybe its just because its new and i haven't heard it from the boots, but hot damn it is so good. epic closer to an amazing album.

the ONLY track that hasn't really been doing it for me is butcher baker. not that i think its bad or anything. it just isn't doing as much for me when compared to the rest of the tracks.

Every song on this album seriously gets better with each listen. At first I was just kinda bewildered and on the fence about the discrepancies between this and the live versions, but now the whole thing just sounds genius. CTYS is my current fav and it doesn't even need the drop, it's just seven minutes straight of euphoria.

I noticed Popadam posted this over in the combined EP/album thread:
popadam wrote:
i actually find DJL and SOTC mess up the flow of the songs so i dont include them

I believe that a few other users have mentioned that they don't listen to the transition tracks.

This behavior is baffling to me. What if I said that the full minute of Tabla at the beginning of Good Girl/Carrots "messes up the flow of the songs," so I skipped it every time? Or what if I did the same with the field recordings that bookend Take Pills? When I first heard Feels, I thought Banshee Beat was way too long and I often wanted to skip it.

If you guys really don't like the transitions, then you can skip them if you want and I have no problem with that, but that kind of behavior seems totally out of character for an AC or Panda Bear fan to me. I just thought that more of us CA-ers would listen to the album the way the artist intended for it to be heard. Yes, I realize this probably means waiting until the album actually comes out to listen to it, but PK's given us his blessing, so I feel like that's a non-issue in this case.

I'm not trying to start something here, I just wanted to remind people that the transitions were meant to be there. Maybe if you listen to the album with them included, you'll eventually get used to them and maybe even enjoy them. Just my two cents.

I agree with you 100%, Victor. I didn't want to say anything about it on this thread. The transitions are there for a reason. It's what pk and pb wanted and I think they did a great job. They really tie the song together and complete the album for me. :)
