freebirds are just a reality of the music biz today (sadly), i think noah and pete have more important things to worry abt, it's not as tho it freebirded in an unfinished form (which would be v sad and I wouldn't listen)
if its a bitrate issue, it's not like it's so bad that its full of artefacts and sounds like a polyphonic ringtone. the quality people listen to is completely out of the artists' hands, 5 years ago a bunch of people would have been listening to 128kbps standard itunes rips, when I get the cd im gonna rip it at 64kbps and listen to it on the earphones I got w/ one of those free fm radios that u get sometimes

i wonder if they even know? they aren't monitoring the internet for stuff like that like we are. and i kind of doubt domino is going to disturb him on a sunday like, "oh, btw, we accidentally let your album freebird 2 months early. sry bout that."

First off, I'm probably gonna sound like a lunatic here. But I feel like it needs to be said.
First thing I see when I got on this site was the jump in pages. I thought it was a single release (Boys Latin?) so I clicked the last page. The only thing I've seen was someone complaining about the Tropic of Cancer vocals. First off, it's debatable whether listening to the freebird at this point in time is disrespectful to the people that have worked so hard on this record and those that are actively doing a phenomenal job promoting it. But I'm not one to judge that since I listened to the album last night. However, actually COMPLAINING about the freebird on a forum where the producer of said album has been frequenting for the last year plus, while keeping us all entertained and informed along the way is very disrespectful in my eyes. Say what you will about the album, but don't create negativity on top of negativity. Plus it just aint true that Tropic of Cancer vocals are bad, they are wonderful.
I haven't read any other posts other than the one saying there's a freebird and another person complaining. Let me just say that this album is Jesus. After having a so-so experience with Mr Noah EP (sorry) and not really liking Tomboy (lord knows I tried), I was having my doubts about the album. But after listening to the album last night stoned out of my gourd I must say that this is the most visual and most uplifting music I have ever heard that just twinkles and creates a universe of its own (something only AC records have done for me previously). Now, I seriously had my doubts about listening to it this early, but I couldn't ask for a better experience than last night. Usually after smoking I am very critical of EVERYTHING (I had this problem with the albums You're Dead and Syro) so much that I have to avoid listening to new stuff. But this feels like the perfected form of the live versions (hearing them previously only enhanced the experience for me) and I have zero complaints. I let the music flow through me and the images and colors coalesce in my mind. Also I had never heard CTYS before and that was nuts and I swear to god I felt like I was gonna have a heart attack when Tropic of Cancer followed byShadow of the Colossus and Lonely Wanderer came on.
All you people that haven't listened to the freebird (if there are any out there), choose for yourself whether to listen early and don't listen to what other people say (but again BUY THE ALBUM, otherwise you are scum). I would stay away from this thread for a while. I know I'm going to. I don't dare read what others are saying about this because every little opinion makes this music stop being a dialogue with two kindred souls and prematurely invites analysis into something sacred that should be FELT, not judged. Don't have any doubts in your mind about its quality going into it. But buy the album for God's sake. PBvsGR is beautiful and has so many layers and surprises in it that I want everyone to have the experience I had, with or without the help of mind altering drugs. Don't wait for reviews or other people (on this forum or otherwise) to tell you what to feel (that goes for everything).
Anyway, I'm sorry to Pete and Noah and everyone else if it is offensive to listen to this album so early. But I don't regret what I felt last night and I'm so glad I preordered the deluxe ver. It's gonna be a while before I listen to it again because it just feels too special to make it a regular thing just yet. Sorry for clogging up the tubes with this ramble but just give it some thought.
Thank you guys for this gift! I look forward to the coming months of fun. You and the AC crew are my inspiration for creating music and I wish you the best.
(I put it in a spoiler because it's a lot longer than I expected

)

okay what im trying to understand is why people abstain from freebirds if they have no problem w/ illegally downloading albums/they are buying the record? i dont get why an artist would be bummed out if people were enthusiastic enough to want to listen to their record before it came out? they worked hard and put it out for people to hear? isnt a release day completely arbitrary / just something the label decides if ur lucky enough to be on a label?

The key change on 'plugin' in Butcher gets me so excited every time, it's like HERE WE HERE WE GO. Amazing. Crosswords is probably the best song he's written since My Girls. Unbelievable, note perfect.

People please at least wait til a better quality freebird comes out to complain ok??
on another note, I dont see how anyone that has been a fan of pb's previous work can not like this album. Maybe if you had no idea what he sounded like this album could be a little too confusing, but for those who do know his sound, this is just a perfect continuation of what he has been doing. Lovely pop ballads dosed in his psychedelic, heavy-layered production.

Is that The Last Post sampled at the start of Tropic? Whatever it is, the transition into the harp sample is so beautiful. Never heard him sing like this on record. So live and fragile.

Upon waking-sober-pre-coffee listen: BBCM and Principe Real still surprise the hell out of me.
The only thing I haven't "come around" to yet is:
The lack of "toOOOOoooooo DAAAY DAY AFTER DAY" the way he sings it really high with all of that energy live. I mean, it's sorta there, but it didn't hit me as hard as I thought it would.
But yeah, like a lot of y'all have said. I'm getting more and more used to these versions and I love 'em more and more after every listen
I absolutely LOVE this album. My strategy for not wearing it out is waiting until the email comes with my download before I let it enter my vehicle lol
also, V stoked to flaunt my t-shirt!

I just listened to the whole thing in bed in the dark and had a moment I haven't had with music since the MPP freebird. Acid Wash kicked me in the nuts. The chord changes in the chorus type bit are so gorgeous. Almost sounds like an updated sea shanty. Nadir blew my trousers off and out of the window. NOW WE REALLY MAKING NOISE. I fucking love that so much. Also the beat on Butcher absolutely bangs. Ugh, the plugin chord change.
Lonely Wanderer gave me a moment I haven't had since walking through the crunchy snow with a pork bun in one hand and a lychee beer in the other, tears streaming down my cheeks, the blurred neon of the Wuhan traffic smeared across my retina. This is the best AC release since MPP.

Get just what you need
Just what
Want more than you need
Want more
Dread follows that lead
Follow the lead
Near as far from
A ship as the oar
(Come on)
More than you can see
See more
Seeds become a tree
Because you can't
Be a growth
And the same as before
(Come on)
Get just what you need
Just what
Want more than you need
Follow the lead
Near as far from
A balm as the cut

He got a really big chip on a leg
Don't want to get out of bed

Here comes the loaf again
Drip a lot, drop a lot
Become an oaf again
Trip a lot, trip a lot
So wide to the other side
Shuts an eye
But he stays like a stump inside
Hey hey hey
Upon the gusts he glide
Brittle mind, gentle mind
Toward a bigger sign
Every time, every time
So much for the safest vibe
Tossed aside
But he burns like a blaze inside
Hey hey hey
You're so cool

Ain't fate
Just me
Come a cropper for the weak stuff that you stew
Ain't fate
Just me
A cripple on his feet again you say
Stay there
While I move
Stay scared
While I improve
But it don't mean I'll do it like you want me to
But it do mean I'll do it like you need me to
But it don't mean I'll do it like you want me to
So good
So good
You got it so good
So good
So good
Damn it so good
So good it's so good
So good
Get it day to day
Day after day
So good

This pad has a bigger grid
Grip this grab that have that

At once a bend of mind

Acid Wash is an Enya song, in all the best ways.
Everything sounds so slick and spacey.
Butcher Baker reminds me of Cocteau Twins.
Come to Your Senses has this amazing spooky windy noise whispering through it.
Really digging a the little intros and outros; so much better than those on CHz.
People have been saying that this album sounds uplifting; I feel almost the opposite. It sounds heavy and hard and sterile. I wouldn't describe many sounds on here as warm.
Scary beautiful stuff.

well! Panda and SB love people and love music and how they connect.
i think they are probably happy that some of us don't want to hear it until later, and, are also happy that some people have heard it unexpectedly! There may be some type of stream of the album in january or december and even for people who have heard it already, i am sure they will find it to be a new experience, and relate to everyone who is hearing it for the first time then or when the album is released, bringing up feelings for them from this time period!
i think in some senses they would just put this stamp on what has happened! i am optimistic and mushy but they are different among musicians and artists in that they really understand people and how much music changes them!

Kinda off topic but I listened to this album last night and then fell asleep and had a crazy dream. I was walking down a staircase and halfway down, I saw a black cloaked hooded figure resembling the grim reaper and then it looked up at me and it's face was super smudged and blurry, white and demonic looking and the second I saw it's face I heard a really loud banging noise that sounded like it was coming from the wall behind my head as I was sleeping. I woke up immediately afterwards and the noise stopped. I then tried to research what happened and it's called the exploding head syndrome. It really freaked me out. so now I guess I can say that I met the grim reaper in my dream last night.
