I just wanted to add how much I love love love that the beat seems to be imitating the galloping of a horse intentionally. So so so beautiful it hurts

i agree with most that its a ridiculous and inconsistent grading scale BUT
if the rest of the songs aren't better than the singles, that may be a generous score imo
i've enjoyed the 3 we've been blessed with so far, but nothing has blown me away

no way that the rest of the songs will be worse than the singles

Feel the same. Had to mentally change a lot of gears after the Saturdays single. Think I'll really like this album but doubt it's gonna stay me

yeah the whole thing'll be out there in just 3 days so I'm gonna hold off listening to Hors. I remember regretting listening to the le ak of Brothersport before the whole album came out because it made it sound out of place when I first got to it (eventually got over that though)

I like the sound of it, like the production, lots of atmospheric details, it's very rich. I kind of miss the live urgency and electronic drums if I'm honest, same a the previous two but they both grew on me a great deal once I started to shake off the demoitis.

It’s funny cause like the live performances of these were so nebulous and half written that it was hard for anything to stick... this shit is ace, love every single so far

the only one that really sounds like the boots is Saturdays, taken boy is far from moth and horse is more similar to moth and vastly different from sew happy, aside from the songs we don't know the album is still sitting on derriere and me and the bubble, this shit about to be nuts

After a few more listens, I rather like this actually. I wasn't a massive fan of Eucalyptus - though I appreciated its sensibility and scattershot bric-a-brac approach to compiling an album of songs. This sounds much more appealing to me though it's probably the most 'trad' AOR sounding thing they've ever done. It bodes well for the future. I can imagine getting old and still loving this kind of thing.

also “half-written” sounds too music crit from me, I just meant they felt like still forming things, at least on mothlight.

but I welcome the return of “happy-sad” Avey, rather than full happy (painting with) or full sad (euc); I want my moments of darkness beautified and my moments of beauty darkened

This feels like the kind of song I could find solace in when I'm feeling a bit uncertain or anxious. The little touches are so nice, and Avey's voice is like a big warm hug.
None of the songs have blown me away or anything (although I've given Saturdays so many listens) but they're all just really super nice. Can't wait for release.

Love Hors_, (Avey really leaning into the wacky song titles lately) but call me silly, this isn't Sew Happy at all?

Sew Happy is definitely an early version of Hors_, they have the same melody. Although I think Hors_ sounds closer to the Mothlight version than the slowed down version he did on the Eucalyptus tour
Given how different Hors_ and Taken Boy turned out, I wonder if any of the other songs were dramatically changed in the same way

It dawned on me that perhaps the song title HORS_ is referencing the basketball game "Horse," so the "e" is missing because the game's not over yet my friends, Avey is still in it.

I caved and listened to HORS_ once, it was v nice and probably my favorite of the singles thus far. Overall tho I have to say that I think this material is giving me the worst demoitis since probably pbvsgr. I have a feeling I'll like this album more overall than that one, but so far each song has compromised some of my favorite elements of the live versions. I appreciate that the drums were kept in this song, and that it was closer to it's original tempo, but I miss the energy of the mothlight version, especially in the way the electric guitar was used. One thing I will say though is that the use of acoustic guitar here almost makes this song feel like a distant cousin of Sleeper Factory to me.

I sort of kept the mothlight stuff pretty distant in my head. Like, I don't think it's fair to hold these versions up to literally one live performance from two years ago for a one-off show. I don't think midnight special will ever come out like that show.
Pretty strong demoitis from the Euc tour though. I guess I expected a similarly minimist set up to Buoys with just drum loops, samples and guitar. These singles have been fuller, heftier. Ms. Secret vibes throughout. Not a surprise that he'll be playing with a band now at all. He seems to have ditched the electric guitar completely for the studio tracks though. It's unexpected but I'm not totally against it. Think the album will rule. Absurd a copy hasn't leeaked online yet.

The strumming in Saturday’s sounds like an unplugged electric guitar.
