damn I almost shit myself when I saw that it had been (fake) freebirded cos I had a dream that the album had freebirded but it was actually a movie/visual album like ODDSAC but it was basically just Noah walking around and narrating stuff to the camera Malcolm in the Middle style, with the occasional song thrown in (i remember feeling gypped that it was more movie than song). I do remember the opening track (after about 5 minutes of Noah doing something) was some tribal sounding drums, synthy bleep bloops and Avey screaming like a bird "AH! AH! AH!" for about 3 minutes.

More off topic than anything but damn have you ever heard this Pumpkins song? It has made my 2016 pretty great. God damn. Just don't look for the big L and the album will be sitting on our laps. (I'm loosing it while so close to the end)

That sure is a high score for an album that nobody's heard (i was one of the people who voted it a 10 btw, but only after I saw it go to a devastating 9.6 gotta keep that score high)

To sum things up:

There has been a fake freebird circulating around Soulseek for a few weeks now. It is a 320 rip of FloriDada with the rest of the album being a 192 rip of Neutral Milk Hotel's In the Aeroplane Over the Sea. For some reason (who knows, maybe someone's cruel joke) they decided to claim it was real via Hasitleaked.com. This has led to some craziness on 4chan, and people posting the same thing over and over claiming it's real. Including fake links and rickrolls to What. This has not freebirded today. Like I just said, if it goes up on What I will reupload and let you guys know.

Earlier in this thread some folks were speculating whether the digital watermark would remain if the album were dubbed to tape (or VHS) and then ripped back to audio.
My answer is NO it would not remain intact. A computer program analyzing audio is a very touchy thing and funny things happen to digital audio signals sent to cassette. These things sound good to our ears but to a computer they would be 100% baffling. I love making mixtapes for this reason. It's easy and the analogue qualities of digital recordings are emphasized.

Just saying.

That's a weird generalization to make, but alright...

From what I've looked into for audio watermarking (very little), the songs have added frequencies, that, when looking at the audio via a spectrogram (a readout that shows the volume intensity at certain frequencies of the audio), it will look something like this



I guess it looks like it adds a code in each song that is unique to the person who receives the audio/music, so you can open up the freebirded copy and see who it belongs to. Bringing your audio from digital to analog, and back again, I don't know if it's going to affect that really, but as someone who repairs audio pretty often (working in a program that has a spectrogram read out), it seems incredibly easy to "fudge" the code (those blocks) that is overlaid in the frequency spectrum
