My LP got here!! Sounds wonderful. Love having the art in my hands. The print on the gatefold is great, beautiful texture.
Also got crestone and BTQ - how has nobody mentioned the metalcore style tracklist on Bridge to quiet! Lol

I feel like there are forty more epic endings to that song, and I get a strong sense of what could have been.
Yeah that “thank you passer-by” at the end doesn’t fit at all, it sounds just like the last line of Golden Gal which is very out of place on this more melancholic song. Luckily it’s only like five seconds so barely makes an impact, but still I agree it should’ve ended differently

passer-by to me is just a bundle of kinda baffling creative decisions that i just have to try to be at peace with lmao. like the verse melody, it's not just that it's different or weaker than before, it's also that it doesn't agree musically with the vibraphone melody under it. the "day" in "it was my favorite day" is a step too high and it sounds v strange

i think the clearest consequence of the remote recording is that there are a lot of weird little performance and composition anomalies on this record. when you're in a studio with your bandmates there'll naturally be a constant flow of bouncing ideas off each other and pointing out/fixing issues, but like brian said in the wnyc interview, a lot of the communication that would have been instantaneous instead took weeks, and i think that's to blame for a lot of little things seemingly falling through the cracks.
just imagining a hypothetical, like, you don't really wanna be the person to say "hey we should change the vocal harmony on this line" bc then someone else has to go set up in the studio to rerecord a thing they did days ago and thought was fine, and then if you still think it's not quite right after that you just gotta let it go at that point. idk i just feel like i'm hearing the results of that sort of thing on a lot of these tracks, and it bums me out that an otherwise really lovely tight record has this weird sort of messiness that feels like it shouldn't be there

I love the album version of Passer-by. I think it is some of their best soundscapes, and the image Avey paints with the lyrics feels really profound. I even like how they changed to end to be a bit more of a quiet reflection that builds into a beautiful release. But, yeah, that "thank you passer-by" part is just a little too corny for me and doesn't really resolve the song in the best way in my mind. I mean, I get why he does it thematically, but it is just corny to me. I feel like sometimes Avey has a hard time figuring out how to end a song, and I think golden girl that someone brought up is another good example of that. The Burglars is also a great song that ends weird as well. I think Passer-by should have just faded out with that grand gong crash.

I feel like the "thank you passer byyyy" ending is supposed to be anti-climatic or intentionally hollow after a few very emotional moments.
Like the smile and greeting from a stranger who treated him kindly when he needed it
Bumped a passer-by
Who smiled as if he knew me
He didn’t have a face i recognized
But i keep on thinking about your smile
or
"Thanked a passer-by
For pointing out a thing
I probably would have missed without her eyes
Now i miss the passer-by
remembering a past experience with someone you're not with any more.
I think the ending evokes the bittersweet feelings associated with this type of stuff. Just as it came it's gone. The joy of having experienced it and then the sadness that it's over.
The song could've easily faded out with the Noah parts just going into infinity but with the finite "thank you passer-by" I feel like it closed the book instead of letting the story live on which wouldn't make sense given the context of the lyrics.
this has been my ted talk.

They always ask the weirdest questions, which turns out to be a good thing seeing as almost every other interviewer of AC asks the same boring questions over and over

interesting to hear panda say he doesn't specifically write songs for solo/ac stuff anymore, he just presents it all to the other guys.

Totally. Dave’s yodel is so buried in the mix. I thought that yodel would be huge. Panda’s line is just so incongruous to the rest of the vibe. Only part of
TS that chafes. I even like Deakin’s “passion for a little giving” now.

This is exactly how the line delivery hits me. Of course, I do see how some people might disagree with that creative decision or agree with it in the abstract, but it just doesn't resonate with them in practice. I stand by Passer-by as one of the best (if not
the best) songs on this album and hold out hope that it may be a grower for those who are lukewarm about it now.

“We don’t have a set in stone plan for the next record, but it’s all been recorded and hopefully it will be mixed in the next few months,” he said, adding: “And I would assume that that means that it’ll be coming out in some form, whether it’s as just the next album or an album with an EP. I’m not really sure, but I would imagine that will be coming out within a year’s time, I would hope. Maybe early next year.”

hoping for an ep first, then the next album, so as to bridge us along

Right, so they’ve recorded the rest of the material, and just aren’t sure what to do with it? Whether to release it as one big record or split it into an album and an EP?
Just to be clear.

Deakin says 18 songs before the pandemic. Plus Soul Capturer, which was written during. So total 19 now maybe.
They've been playing 8 extra songs live that aren't on TS, so there's at least two more?

Wow fuck that’s fucking insane. Great time to be back into AC I feel like they kinda lost me a bit over the last decade. Just wasn’t feeling CHz and PW as much as I hoped. This new lushness is 1,000% my jam though. Even more energetic stuff like SWE mixed in I don’t care. I feel they’re just hitting another creative peak now.

10 more songs
Yeah honestly defeat as an EP and then the other 9 as an album would be interesting. So would a 6/4 or 7/3 split for an EP. Damn these dudes are legit sitting on the best recordings of the 21st century rn huh

I prefer Defeat as ending of a full LP then some weird one-off/EP thing.
If its actually 10, then do a 5 track EP, painters style this fall, and a 5 track (but still long as hell via Defeat and Magicians) LP in January. boom.
And even if they're approach/production is pretty different than Skiffs, they already did a 9-track LP of songs from this era, so do a smaller amount of longer tracks on a LP (with even bigger transitions/fades than Skiffs 1)
I still could never get if the Panda tracks (Broke and Gem) would fit on an LP with Defeat. So put those on EP with maybe Soul Capturer and a new one, and do ...
1. Genies (opener!?)
2. Magicians
3. unknown/new track
4. unknown/new track
5. Defeat
(I've already made 5+ posts like this and will make 50 more before Skiffs 2)

i definitely think that defeat should be on the full LP. They could do an EP with tracks like Soul Capturer and Gem and I

I would love Defeat on the LP but honestly, it’s a long ass song, and I can’t see them wanting to make the record too long. From where Domino are standing, a 20 minute long track is taking up valuable single space. I can’t see the band releasing a record with only like 5 or 6 tracks anymore. I think it’ll be Defeat EP with a couple of other loosies, then everything else will be on the record.

That Panda interview slaps.
Can't believe the "30 tracks" that panda brought to the band isn't an exaggeration. I mean surely Gem, Broke and Prester (1st half) aren't like far-and-away the best tracks of that bunch. He says himself there were a couple others they looked at but couldn't "figure out".
I want that 30-track demo dump lol.

I guess... I think it should be on an LP for a variety of reasons but I have a weird (maybe baseless) fear that if its a EP track, then less people will hear it. That might not be true.
I think Fall Be Kind esp is a huge crowd favorite even for casuals lol, so some of those tracks definitely reach people. I just idk... I mean maybe saying "Its a new AC EP with a 20 min track!" will actually get more attention and clicks and shit.
I need as many people as possible to hear Defeat so we can ALL heal as a planet

early 2023 was always the only realistic option
domino isn't undercutting Time Skiffs with a 2nd album in 2022. January 2023 is my guess/hope.
