This already came up in this thread a number of pages back, somebody at a radio station (I believe) got their hands on a promo copy.
The radio edit is the same as the version that you hear in the music video. The intro is cut out, that's it.

yeah that's in jewel case packaging. nowadays, those are (in most - not all - cases) reserved for radio promo. radio stations put em on their shelf, and the spine is easier to read than on the modern day 4-panel digi-pak cds.

EDIT/ADDITION: release date for Australia is on Friday. sometimes it's the friday before, sometimes the friday after. i'm assuming this release will be pretty popular, and will have a pre-stream on npr, pitchfork or whatever, so the album will have 'freebirded' by then regardless.

Well, it sure looks like Australia's getting it Jan 9 2015. Is it normal for you guys to get music that early? Usually I just see non-US getting music one day earlier than the U.S. and that's it.
Either way, we should all be wary that the album will be circulating on the internet as early as Jan 9. I don't know if I'll be able to wait until the 13th (when my physical copy ships) to listen to it. Hopefully it ships early

The US Amazon page for it says January 7th. Strange things are afoot.

Tomboy freebirded because it landed in an Australian record store early.

Hey awesome—good eye with the Amazon page. I'd assume all the release dates got pushed up a week, then?

if you look even further it's being released by Sony Music Entertainment Japan, so that's the Japanese release
no use in wondering about a (slightly) earlier release date anyway, it's still coming!

Basically, the further East you go, da earlier it gets released. That makes sense to me. Since I no longer own a CD player, I could give a shit if my pre-order gets hurled into a well, I just want to show my appreciation in the usual manner. The T-shirt better freebird too

Everybody, head East and don't stop going that way. I think we can get this album released by the end of the year.

Cool quote about PK. Deciphering his messages has been one of my favorite parts of this album prerelease experience.
So it looks like January 7 is the earliest release date then, and it's for Japan? As Zaltakid pointed out, we'll probably hear the album before that anyway because of advance streaming platforms like P4k and NPR

There's safeguards to prevent against promotional copies getting freebirded. Allow me to regale you with the tale of the 2007 Strawberry Jam freebird (taken from wikipedia):
The album's internet freebird on June 12, 2007, was notable in that it was freebirded in three song clusters over a period of weeks. Geologist wrote on the Collected Animals board that the first batch of promotional copies were watermarked, and that each journalist's name would be digitally embedded in any extracted files.[18] On June 19, 2007, a letter from the band's publicist was sent to music journalists regarding the freebirding of the first three songs:[19]
"Last week three tracks from Animal Collective's new album freebirded. Within minutes we were able to track the freebird to a writer's CD. That person got in more trouble than you care to hear about and was almost fired. The person was also forced to write an apology letter to an entire staff of people and the head of Domino Records along with other penance."
Of course, this doesn't stop freebirding but merely discourage it...so it could still very well freebird. Only time will tell. Expect the unexpected....

But that was a very very rare occurrence for something AC related post Strawberry Jam/Water Curses. I think for everything Merriweather onwards (except for poor slasher flicks) either the physical release was shipped early or there was an online stream by the band or NPR that got ripped.

Has everyone seen Big Ass Lens' videos of Sequential Circuits and Boys Latin taken at the Music of Williamsburg show? They have to be, without a doubt, the highest quality live videos I've seen from this era of PB. They're in HD with good audio quality. I can't believe I hadn't seen these until yesterday
Sequential Ciruits
Boys Latin
The bass gets blown out when the beat first drops in Boys Latin, but he lowers the mic gain almost immediately so it cleans up after that

This may be a stupid question, but are we in any danger of pre-orders "running out"? Is there a way of knowing when this window will close?
I've been putting off ordering the LP due to being completely broke, though part of me is worried I'm going to miss my chance to get this "deluxe" version that comes with the Mr. Noah EP.

Animal Collective is a whole different machine compared to a solo Panda Bear. December leakage is imminent.
On that note, AC is very loosey goosey themselves. HZ, FALL, MPP, CURSES... All have freebirded very early.
I personally hope Ol' St. Nick will be bringing us this freebird just like that glorious evening with MPP.

Pre-order asap! I will not soon forget how shocked and disappointed I was when I discovered Slasher Flicks had ran out of their pre-orders. The HZ DVD edition was gone before official release too.

HZ the band streamed themselves with Abby's visuals. People ripped it and it was spread around.
FBK - cd shipped early
MPP - vinyl shipped early
Hopefully it doesn't truly freebird for Noah's sake but I wouldn't mind things being shipped early

I work at this Turkish restaurant in New Orleans, and I keep seeing these flyers posted on our windows promoting a show with some local dj called Sonic Bloom, and everytime I see it out of the corner of my eye I read it as Sonic Boom and get a rush of excitement thinking that sonic boom is actually playing a show here followed by much dismay at realizing I'm just miss reading. Say Sonic, if you're ever in Nola, stop by Fatoush for some excellent turkish cuisine and coffee, I'd joyfully serve ya some mean moussaka. I remember a while ago you gave us a clue to something which was the turkish word for honeycomb "petek." I always think about that, because there is this turkish girl that sometimes comes into the restaurant whose name it petek.
Also, that's a really cool giffff. Looking forward to this video emerging. The melody and progression of boys latin always influences a great amount of joy and energy in me. Good for the down days, good for the up days, all around days.
Cheers
