Can someone explain what you all mean by progression

I mean progression within a song, like does it change and evolve as a song, becoming more interesting instead of less as it goes on.

Lying in the grass is a perfect little song, perfect in it's own weird logic... it flows so well. Floridada is so well paced too. Lying is Panda to my ears, with Dave doing the repeated syllables. The lyrics have moved on from Greaper, more humour & nonsense.

It may just be a perfect pop record, I can't help thinking about Sgt.Pepper comparisons......

Doesn't sound very complex if you can see where the watermarking is occurring. But like I said, not going to push, just wanted to offer my help if it was desired.

What exactly is a watermark?

It's a slight change to the music that identifies who it was given to, so if it is freebirded the record company can see what the change was and identify the person who freebirded it.

A security measure taken by labels and artists to prevent early press copies of albums l e a king. Basically you take information and embed it into the audio signal. Any time this audio signal is copied, the information is included. The most secure version of this is spread spectrum watermarking, which basically spreads that information throughout the audio signal rather than in just one place or frequency, which would be super easy to remove. They often can't be seen if you were looking at a spectral analysis, but rather needs to be "heard"

It doesn't really change the music... It changes the information of the music.

Lol maybe a little. It's not thaaaat hard to remove them with the right software, and actually half the time the labels or press contacts are bluffing and there are no watermarks.

It's just an industry scare tactic, most labels encourage the sharing of unheard music to boost physical sales.

Truth. I've received copies of albums with a week left to release to try and remove watermarks and find there were none and people were just too scared lol.

Bummer. Personally don't want to hear more of the album out of context, but I have no control lol

Maybe it'll be in one of those raffles that the local grocery stores do where they give you code on your receipt and you enter it somewhere online and they'll do a draw at the end of the week.

Why are watermarks such an issue with this album? They've always been around and aren't a secret. I assumed most albums were freebirded intentionally

My suspicion is that these days there are far fewer copies sent out in advance, and at a later stage. My first memory of watermarking was with Daft Punk's Discovery, believe it or not. A guy on the old D@ft Crew forum got some fifteen second clips of the tracks from a guy who knew a guy etc and it led back to a lad at Virgin France who either got sacked or sued. Maybe myth, maybe whatever but it was the first time I'd heard of the concept. Good times listening to remixes of those clips, pretty funny.

Skip forward eight years or whatever to MPP and there were a lot of copies out there and a lot of people talking about watermarks and Web Sheriff, which may have been a joke at first, but then was an actual company hired to monitor for freebirds and so on. There was even a user by that name on this forum. May have been a joke but seemed pretty straight, even if acknowledging its slightly amusing status and presence here.

I haven't caught onto an enormous amount of buzz or promo for this album, given its imminent release, but then I don't really follow the music press or new releases or talk about music much elsewhere. I think the watermark stuff has barely been mentioned compared to past releases. I'd also say that the build up has been fairly low key, and without meaning to be a dick, I wonder whether Domino have scaled things back a bit with the promo? There was a lot pre-CHz with the radio shows and so on, felt like a real progression. May be a false memory, though.

It's probably easy to forget how the boys touring their songs first would've inherently played a part in the hyping of each album. This release might seem low key in comparison because the picture isn't as clear.
