Honestly, though I don't really participate in the memes, I never thought they were mean-spirited. I thought they were because he seems cool. Watching Deakin dance the stage is one of the best parts of the live show. And his guitar makes SJ one of the best AnCo albums

Josh took the time to talk to me and my friend and was the nicest dude ever to us. It's ridiculous that people are so quick to judge him and make fun of him with memes and other stupid shit.
Being an artist is tough and it seems like he really wants to make things he truly believes in so stop being terrible people.

Just want to pop in for a second, are you guys saying the phrase "freebird it Deak" (or any of the various Deak puns) is supposed to be negative or something? Or are there some comments I missed where people were actually being mean?

It's not even just here. Whenever I see a post that involves Deakin on social media more often than not, someone comments a meme or a snarky comment about him. Ironically it's not even the people who have helped fund the Kickstarter. In fact they've been generally very supportive and understanding. Instead its always some dude who apparently has nothing better to do than to spend time and effort creating a stupid meme. Even phrases like "freebird it Deak," though not mean spirited, I can imagine being in Josh's shoes it being very frustrating. It probably makes connecting with any fan, even the good intentioned ones, very difficult.

Curved Air, you're a good dude

Let's hope that end of January/early Feb doesn't drag on too much. I just also think it's a really bad idea to release his solo album at the same time as the new Animal Collective. Even if it were a Panda Bear solo album, it would be seen as a footnote to new Animal Collective. Anyway, don't really know why I mention it, he's already said what he's said.

Could be the basis for some new urban myth e.g. play both albums at the same time and they sync up to create a K-Pop record

The Malian Routes compilation that (I think people on /mu/ put together?) came out a while back is an incredible set of songs. Some of the really out there, really reverby and spacey transitions and interludes have this incredible "soaring" and harrowing quality to them that really makes me excited.

I just contacted Keep to ask if they could tell me what the surprise is that comes with the new Deakin shoes being that my feet are too big for the shoes but I'd buy them anyway if I knew I was getting music. They just emailed me back saying they wouldn't say exactly what it is but that it is music of some kind. I'm thinking it'll probably be a cassette.

Closer to the shoe release date I might walk on down to the store and see if they'd throw a cassette my way with the purchase of another pair of shoes. I've been meaning to grab some new boots and they're about a 5 minute walk from my workplace I believe.

It should be shipped out to the Kickstarter backers sometime this month. No other news as far as a wider release, or any other information about the album. We don't even know if any of his songs from his 2010 shows will appear on it

Release / ship date is still pending until a few things come back from the manufacturer (possibly components for the book if I'm remembering correctly). Us backers should be receiving an update once things are getting ready to ship! (Hopefully still within this month)

i seem to remember someone saying that they talked to him after a DJ set in 2014/2015 and he said that the only track that will appear from the 2010 shows will be "2 friends", i'm like 95% sure that he said only one track from that tour will be on there, 80% sure that he said the track was 2 friends (i remember being disappointed that it wasn't island chase or footy). maybe someone can find this post? i remember it being in a thread for a specific DJ set in the live subforum...we'll know soon enough anyway

I'm just really starting to explore Deakin's solo work and it is absolutely amazing, I think Deakin gets a bad rep because he just seems to play "guitar" and most anco songs don't have direct elements of guitar, but after seeing live videos and whatnot I began to realize how iconic some of Deakin's parts are and how he artfully altered his guitar's sound to sound like everything but a guitar.

I just found this http://4chanmusic.wikia.com/wiki/Deakin and it's really immature and annoying (because it's 4chan)

If y'all know anything about Vampire Weekend, Chris Baio, the bass player, sort of has a similar position in the band as Deakin. But he recently released some stunning solo material that really made a lot of people reconsider his influence in the band. I hope Deakin's album will function in a similar way. I wish I was an anco fan back during the kickstarter, I would have loved to have been a part of this, even if it took so many years I'm sure it's worth it.

Isn't there a pretty huge amount of AC songs that have "direct elements of guitar"?

But I guess "most" is a little vague and so is "direct" so it's hard to debate

We'll receive a heads up before things start to ship too so still a little ways to go yet. I (and I'm sure any other backers on the board) will be sure to post the next update from Josh which I'm assuming will be to let us know the product is in hand and ready to mail out.
