Also I think I figured out my issue with Dragon Slayer: it's just not meant to be listened to on headphones. I completely understand what you're saying about that big roomy sound Cooper, for a lot of the songs I think it works but I do think it's to it's detriment in the case of DS. There's just a little too much going on in the chorus. But it does sound much better coming out of speakers. In general this isn't really a headphones album, save for a few moments here and there.

Damn you guys are gaslighting me or something. This music sounds intensely roomy. Like you can distinctly hear dragon slayer and car keys bouncing off of something within the mix. MPP was wet af but there was no echo. Aveys vocals on DS for example are directly interacting with some kind of defined space

No I definitely get that, that's why a couple pages back I said it's best on speakers. The same was true for Centipede Hz. I don't think it's their most reverb filled album but it's certainly big and absolutely sounds like it's a full on live performance recorded directly in a venue or something. I fucking looooooove it.

I usually listen to new music first on headphones to absorb all the sounds and little details but with this one, doubting wether to start with the speakers first

Find it kind of funny that so many people have been comparing WGB to PW. The vocal tradeoffs in the chorus definitely remind me of FloriDada a bit. But more than anything that's maybe the song on here that reminds me of old AC the most, like Feels or even older.

I said a few pages back that all the whispering vocals swirling around the main melody line reminds me of a more upbeat Loch Raven or something, definitely hear some Grass in it too. For me it’s Feels all the way I don’t hear PW vibes at all

I love the albums on headphones, but IMO with all those frequencies this is a total speaker album. You really do catch so much more sustain and extra harmonics I believe

but i should probably give it a second and maybe third listen to really develop my feelings on it before i declare it to be a masterpiece or not

i will say there's not a single bad track on here, and royal and desire is as amazing as i expected, my expectations being quite high after a week of people losing their minds over it here

also i regret listening to the singles as much as i did, it kinda ruined the flow of the album a tiny bit on first listen. definitely won't do that for skiffs 2

Yeah I think Strung With Everything is my absolute favorite on the album. Maybe Royal and Desire. Cherokee is very very good but those two tracks really take the cake for me. Cherokee gets it though because "Someones at a grill top, and someone is Tom Hanks" is one of the most obscure and random lyrics ever that I love it so fucking much.

Also I ordered the day preorders dropped and mine won't be here until next week. All I can gather is the snow storm is expected to fuck things up or Domino didn't get supply as soon as they wanted. Its alright though I guess, having that sweet sweet deluxe ruby LP in my hands and it's scents up my nose holes is going to be magical.

I try to buy stuff like this from Domino to support the band, but I wonder if they even get a higher % of this revenue than from other locations. I wish I had a local store to support instead but I live in an uncool place.

Also how did the sub reddit get so much worse so quickly? Finally unsubscribed from that place, I don't know if it's just the change of pace here but man not only is that place dry, it's fucking daft as shit. Seems like high schoolers just doing the indie cred thing.

Man, isn't it so cool that we get to wake up every day and listen to Skiffs as much as we want? No longer do I have to cower before the foreboding threat of demoitis or restrain myself from overplaying singles and ripping them from the bigger picture.

Also, Skiffs is a 10/10 word.

I don't think this album is as drenched in reverb overall as it at first seemed. Instead I think they create that space and the illusion of long reverb trails on everything with an abundance of reverbed cymbal crashes and splashes that are all the fuck over this thing. It's most apparent in the Passerby outro where those cymbals/other vibrating metal plates reach a fever pitch. Cymbal textures in general seem to form the basis of the sonic world of this album along with a lot of Geo's samples which play in that same register, adding shape. Feels very true to the 2019 versions which featured a lot of distant, yet bright whooshings and washings and I'm glad they really leaned into that. They fully realized the size of the songs that they hinted at in 2019. I definitely believe they sampled that train sounds record for these Skiffs era songs.

I love that Passer-by outro with the pssccchhhh cymbals or bits of foil shusshing. Sounds very intense and emotional.
