Yeah feels you remy.. I wasn't making the comparison so much as a critique than just a "wow, this band really changes their sound a shit ton"... I understand it came off In a diffy way proby And tha dynamic nature of tha band is what makes me love them, but at the same time, it means eventually the band will depart from many of the elements that were so exciting for me originally. For me, the morphing, ethereal, borderline ambient and extremely deeply felt animal collective was the one that spoke to me most. Upon hearing this song, I realized that the band has gone in a direction that no longer includes many of these appreciated qualities that I have for there releases... Anyways, just talking about the song here. It's fun to talk about songs by your favorite band. Plus, I anticipated all this with the Noah interview "blah blah the albums just keeps going on from the start we didn't want to add any ethereal moments" or whatever he said

Plus, it's only one song on delay definitely seems like it has a strong... Magical or ethereal or mystical vibe to it

I love this song! Such a different turn from their last album! I listened to this right when I woke up. I had a dream I had to go back to high school, it was terrible! Animal Collective is better than going back to high school.

relieved to say this has definitely grown on me a lot after ~6 listens. pretty underwhelmed on the first listen, unlike floridada which i loved instantly. i thought the vocal melodies sounded flat/dull at first, but they definitely have revealed themselves after a few listens. and man I'm loving that little horn section (sax? I'm bad at identifying instruments too ha). so glad Davey is embracing brass instruments for this record tho, it sounds so natural for AC, at least on this song/album. love that bleepity-bloopity piano part too.

in contrast to chz, which many would agree can be exhausting to listen to, i feel like painting with will be another great example of AC doing what they do best.. leaving you wanting more. not so much that you feel the record did not reach its full potential, and not too little where after a few listens you have the album 'figured out'. but that perfect goldilox zone where you feel there are enough ideas on the lp to be explored across several albums if they wanted. but they are AC and instead transcend the space time continuum.

loving this art pop AC so far. can't wait to hear the whole thing.
