Here's the raw interview I did with Deakin last month, this was originally part of my podcast with Greg Phipps called "A Musician and A Filmmaker" where Greg interviewed Geologist as well. The interview was edited a bit for the audio only podcast but here is my full interview with Deakin on video and completely uncut.

I love how candid Josh is and how open he can be about his feelings and his insecurities. The man has a lot of feels. Check 56:47 where I ask Josh which of his bandmate's albums he would bring with him if he ended up on a desert island. Some of the answers may be expected and others not so much!

Enjoy!

Great interview, thanks for sharing!

Hope I'm not spoiling anything in saying it sucks the hard drives of full Music Box Village recording are missing. Pray they turn up

Been waiting for this interview since you mentioned it! Thank you! You asked a lot of questions we've been wondering about, so appreciate you voicing those to get some answers for them. Really fantastic interview, probably my favorite of the whole cycle.

What's this interview with Greg and Brian you keep referencing?

Thanks! So Greg and I did separate interviews (Me and Deakin, Greg and Geo) that we played back to back on our podcast.

yo jordan love the pod, gotta throw some flowers your way despite panda being my favorite collected animal that self-titled has always been elusive to me but after the PB/Beau episode it was like the album was unlocked for me (also beau is afraid was fuckin' wild). thanks for the work and for doing a great show!

Thanks! Wow, Greg's interview with Brian is also really great. Potentially the most "fan that knows everything gets to interview AC" thing I've ever heard. Any time Geo would be like "have you heard..." Greg would be like "Ya and here's 5 facts about it" haha, so good. Just so good, that interview could've gone on FOREVER.

We need you two doing more AC interviews, those were fantastic! Is Greg on CA? Well done, both. Really enjoyed these. Felt like you both did a good job of expressing how so many of us mega-fans feel and how into their various projects we are. Can't say enough of how thankful I am for your questions and comments to the band and for sharing these.

---

Sounds like Geo and Noah were really pushing hard for "Defeat" to be the closer as well as the album title. I wonder if that means Avey was with Deakin on throwing it in the middle.

Great to hear them mention New Psycho Activities too -- the Bug Mall bit was fascinating.

Also, I did not know they were in bands called Wendy Darling, or Dark Ages!

I am on here! I’m usually just so busy with the discord server and the subreddit that I just can’t keep up with everything. Glad to hear y’all enjoyed the interview! Jordan and I did a follow up episode where we talk about Isn’t It Now? in full which will be up within the next week or so.

Very cool, thanks for the heads up.

Are you a mod for the subreddit and discord or something? What's the discord like? Is it busy? Never checked it out...

I second this but with Bish Bosch by Scott Walker. Idk what movie to pair that with so let’s go with My Cousin Vinny

I’m a mod for both of those and the Spiritposting Facebook group. The discord is pretty active but has become a more general discussion place in the aftermath of the album’s release.

Listened to some of this, real good. Brian has always struck me as the biggest 'fan' of the band, in the band. Like, he's a head and will happily talk about all the nitty gritty stuff.

Regarding Oddsac streaming, would be cool if they just credited Danny on it. Like: ODDSAC - Animal Collective, Danny Perez. No idea of the logistics on that though

Still can’t believe Magicians is a real song. It exudes the quality of some Great Lost Recording from a band’s heyday (not referring to AC specifically just a general vibe).
Like some piece of golden lore only found in the deepest caverns of a fan base surrounded with fantastical rumours. eg. an engineer burning the master tape in a fit of passion to prevent anyone else from hearing a piece of music so superb. Lodged in the back of everyone’s mind for years, decades even. Until…
Found covered in dust in the corner of some random-ass-dude’s attic. Ready and willing to be cherished by the world over, and just as superb as the engineer said it was.
Yeah… that’s Magicians

Spun this front to back a few times the past week, such a good experience. Kings Walk has really grown on me, it's got a bit of that early AC energy in that it feels very instinctual in the best way

Listened to Now for the first time in a month or so this morning and it still KICKS LIFE IN THE PINK BITS!

What an album. Absolutely lives amongst ACs best. Maybe not quite 04-09 but as close as you could possibly get and deeply meaningful to me.

What if that Moor Mother collage had been the only pre-release material we’d gotten? That would’ve been tantalizing and so fun to pick apart. A dream for the next album: to get some mashup of the full album and NOTHING ELSE.

Apparently that's kind of what PB had in mind for Mix Ticks but Domino put the kabosh on that
