If you replace Little Fang with Lil Wayne, the song still makes sense.

I'm still angry that i've had to miss two Avey Tare shows now due to age limits at the venue.

all these disparate comparisons... echo and the bunnymen, disco, the cure, pyt...
i'd be lying if i said Little Fang sounded unlike anything else but why I'm struggling to understand why we cant hear this song and the upcoming album for what it is, instead of what it sounds like.
anyway, love the song. psyched to finally hear avey sing in Toronto again (hopefully).

I agree but not so harshly, (thats not to say what you said is harsh to begin with) I guess a lot of people tend to express their feelings towards works by relating it to something similar.
As an artist I would be a bit discouraged to hear a good amount of similarities to other works, I'd feel like my works 'point' wasn't being picked up, or the things I found important in my creation was being lost in translation. Thats just how the cookie crumbles for some people though, that's how we peeps as peeples find interest in some things.
So no harm in comparing.
With that said, yeah man it is totally their unique sound and I for one fucking love it. I will say the only comparisons I can make are the ones Davey mentioned himself:
wrote:
"I've always liked the campier, more fun side of horror, like those cheesy haunted house rides at fairs where there's sloppy effects and rubber figures jumping out at you. It's clearly meant for kids, but there's something endearing and cool about it."

The idea of the novelty pop song—like "Monster Mash" or "They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa!"—doesn't really pop up a lot anymore in music, but those songs have a fun, weird, pop-horror element to them. I wanted to make modern takes on that type of song.

This is brilliant, along with the samples and sounds it's exactly what came to mind when I first heard it.
Like I said earlier, I'm proud of these dudes. This is something (special) fresh and new in an otherwise not so fresh time of music. (yes there is still interesting music going on, yes Angel is one of the dudes)
I just can't get over how great of a song it is on a whole though, besides the feelings made from the sounds and textures, it's an extremely well written pop song with their flavors scattered all over it. I too cannot wait to hear the more complicated drum sections on the other tracks, but with THIS MIX. I absolutely love this mix and hope it stays throughout the LP, it suits the boots, and is what I think we were all hoping for the LP not to lack. Once again, thank you slasher flicks, preordered like a motha.

I almost can't picture the songs from the Slasher boot on an album with this song at all. I mean I get this kind of vaguely... south-of-the-border vibe(?) that I remember showing up on Outlaw and others maybe. It's been a while though since I've listened. Seems like this is going to be a very varied album.

Yeah, of course there's no harm in comparing and I didn't mean to come off as harsh... I just want to challenge the notion of criticism by comparing. I think its something that a lot of anco fans do, me included. This sort of thinking can be trap. Everything begins to sound like everything else, no matter how much intent or uniqueness an artist places in their work. This could be a symptom of our connectedness and the instant gratification of the internet/blogosphere. I don't know if this makes much sense, but it is not discourage anyone from comparing Little Fang to any other song.
Perhaps it's ingrained in the listeners and the artists mind to think this way? We naturally measure everything to past experiences. It's awfully hard to be in the now, isn't it? This is good discussion, right guys?

That is how we create and how we interpret/decide our choices in arts, life, future; Almost everything can boil down to deriving from past experiences.
I wont say I agree that the comparisons are a trap, but I agree that, that kind of thinking can be a trap and develop into habits for a not so open mind, all relative to certain things though not solely one aspect of anything.
certain things, anything, everything, mmmm vague, lazy-Saturday-night, terms. Sorry for not being that descriptive or elaborating more.

Little Fang was aight. I haven't really bought an AC related release in a long time nor really listened to any. I'll gladly pick this up. A few of the live videos I've seen have been insanely catchy. I could use a good dose of that as opposed to the pure misanthropy I've been listening to lately. Bring it, Slasher Fucks.

If Panda Bear resurrected "Principe Real" for his 2013 tour, I wonder what the odds are of Slasher Flicks performing or recording either of these two tracks:

I like excaliber a lot, i think its got potential. both do. both are pretty hypnotizing. Hmm, I too am curious to see how these songs pan out. At least they're out there as is, in case nothing happens to them.

After the first 60 seconds of Strange Colores, I'm tempted to say I haven't heard production this good on an AC-related album since ever.
So much bass
edit: not that I'm conflating huge amounts of bass with good production, but both manage to coexist here
