That album sounds like a collection of sleepytime songs but ok, if you really think it's better than anything this band has put out in most of their existence, then that's fine

Chronologically, most, but productively, much less.

That aside, it's better than anything after MPP, to me, and I'm a bigger fan of AC than all but probably 20/30 people in history, maybe less!

Anyway, fingers crossed for a proper release of Pullhair Rubeye, the most underappreciated AC-adjacent record.

my ranking of the album aligns with Dusty’s, although CRSS is growing on me. Neurons too. Yet, I also feel that this album will have less sticking power than others for me. Which is normal, as I’ve already listened to it a bunch. Sweeper’s will be played all year round though. For me it’s instant top tier Avey solo epic status along with Hieroglyphic and Goodside.

not gonna listen to that podcast but did it sound like a serious possibility or just something avey said in response to the topic coming up? that would be incredible of course, i think pullhair rubeye should absolutely be more people's favorite AC album. each day i shred out cmon

Pullahir rubeye is a hidden album. A rerelease reversed would open some eyes. Opis helpus is just one of the best songs mister avey has helped wrote and record. And aint nobody kno it exist

I think much more the latter, he just said like "maybe someday". He's been saying the same thing about releasing practice recordings of the 2011 tour songs for years now lol.

I'd pay $120 AUD for reversed pullhair on vinyl. Amazing album, full of high school nostalgia for me.

reversed pullhair was a special album for me and my best friend who got into ac together, we would quote from opis helpus and sasong all the time. big end-of-high-school vibes. release version is like this own separate novelty thing that i never listen to and just happens to be the official one, lol

Sweeper's Grin is very "song that would come up on Pandora" : suggested for rhythmic vamping

Just thought of this but neurons kinda reminds me of a sunnier version of the kind of sounds on the split series with david grubbs, those crunchy electronic the computer is failing sort of sounds, might be a bit of a reach just crossed my mind when i was listening

Also, loving everything on this album from hey bog onwards, and sweepers grin now one of my favourite Avey solo songs, could go on forever... cloud stop is also great, it really does give me spirit vibes, not sure if it's his delivery paired with the initially offputting overall sound, at first I was not into it but has really grown on me with repeated listens

What I liked about Neurons is that it sounds like an unreleased CHz track and also exactly like the sequel to Bridge to Quiet.

tbf i could totally see how car key sounds very czh, it's that melodic synth that almost is a counter melody, many melodies working to a greater whole, it's almost like the orginal taste in that respect, a lot of overlapping melodies that make it greater than the sum of its parts, to hear that the most the pitchfork performance does a real good job of highlighting it

Not hearing CHZ on Neurons as much as much as maybe Blind babe/strange colours or sumn. He didn't really sing like that on chz tracks somehow.

im loving this album. It scratches the itch Cows did but a little harder. I thinking a smaller tracklist of longer songs makes more sense to me for Avey than an LP of many tracks but most being <5 min~. Glad we have both. I also think his "sound design" excels on this. and glad with this and Skiffs I have 2 LPs worth of that Avey bass

Lips at Night is growing as it sounds less and less like Man of Oil/Blue Noses, but like Avey should be able to write as many songs in that vibe as possible.

Also, should be said that Darlings has a sweet structure. There's still one bridge that I don't yet like get/ understand, in a good way

love love love that we get some pretty weird structures here. Also avey singing on this is extra good. lyrics hit hard too kinda and remind me of high points of Cows and Euc

also I think this is the first appearance of the word "soldier" in his ouevre but i could be wrong. That song makes me think of this book I read in middle school about a guy in vietnam war?

I would not well understand someone who did not think Avey's singing + lyrics on Cloud were some of the best we've had from him since like Eucalyptus high-points like Season High if not things much older from the ancient era (pullhair)

Yeah I really like CRSS now after not loving it initially, and it was Avey’s vocals that turned it around for me. Really great.

Lips at Night is my favorite off this album. Its a really sweet song. Kinda reminds me of "This Old Dog" Mac Demarco in that sad bossa nova descending guitar style, but Avey's voice and lyrical style is so unique, that its nothing else but him.

The Bog and Sweepers are amazing back to back and serve as great center piece of the album. Big wide sweeping moods. Overall a really cool album, that's just starting to make sense to me. Funny how all AC related albums really confuse me in the beginning and then start making sense after a couple listens.

Can't wait for the solo shows with just him playing. Caught him do this in 2017 and it was super beautiful to watch. One person making a world of sound on stage.

Oh nice, it's been a while since I bought an AC CD (not AC DC). I always thought the material and presentation was kinda flimsy (I miss jewel cases), but I might pick this up based on your rec

Happy 7 day anniversary to 7s!

so Musical actually reminds me of Lucky 1. Couldn't put my finger on it before. Not lyrically at all, but sonically its happy Lucky 1. Something about the beat/bass make it feel that way. (also, Hey Bog is like sequel to Oliver Twist)

also has anyone mentioned how there's basically hocketing in the backing harmonies of Lips and I think its either Sweeper or Neurons that also does.

Neurons is growing that shit is dank af, I wanna know the instrumental make-up of the main like synths and shit, is there like a um xylophone or sumn in there

generally incredible wobbly and gurgling sound design abound

Just way more into the structure of this LP than I think I am for Cows and Eucalyptus. Or maybe even like, generally other solo avey.

A few tighter songs into a bigger epic that has lengthy intro and outro segueing into a spacier back half and then ending on weird one like Clouds. It just makes sense.
