I bet decent amount of $$$$ that November's tour will be the debut of like 5-6 brand new tunes just sayin. It's May's tour that will probably only have 1-3 new oldies added (I'm still super down for more of the Skiffs sets tbh, im a Skiffs slut)

It’s very sparse sounding/minimal and pretty and mellow, somewhere between Crestone and Meeting of the Waters and Campfire Songs. I don’t know when it’s coming out, but I would imagine later this year sometime."

welcome to the current state of the music industry. nobody buys mp3s anymore but vinyl sells, labels don't have much of a choice but to hold back things for production timelines. not many people are gonna be exactly eager to buy an eight month long IOU for a record so they've gotta find middle ground. the way things are sucks but unfortunately we have to live with it instead of complaining about what domino's decision-making is every five minutes. i'm sure the "real fans" would pay for the MP3s (as everyone should, honestly!) but the majority of folks just want the nice colorful plastic

exactly. so many records have been released successfully in this staggered approach. there's no need to push back a digital release because of vinyl production issues

this keeps happening (Band of Horses/Let's Eat Grandma most recently) and it really annoys me. I buy vinyl all the time and hearing/loving the digital in advance never dissuades me and often even encourages me to buy the vinyl

Would be interesting if it was at all related to the ambient recording from the Blast Sessions.

What are people's thoughts on this thing now that they have some additional summer tour dates? I was really hoping for a release this year but I'm feeling like it might not happen anymore.

Def not this year. Am interested to see if they start introducing new material at any point though

I don’t think we’re gonna hear new material until Time Skiffs 2 is released. Then there needs to be a period for the band to actually workshop some new stuff. I know this is not the answer that anyone wants to hear. No “”””new””” music until 2023/4

The only thing about putting this record out next year is I can't really imagine them touring this stuff as heavily beyond this year and putting out a record with no tour feels weird. With how busy their schedule is this year I could almost see them holding off touring again as a full band until like next fall if at all really. Assuming this record is essentially done I feel like there are a lot of release options but I don't know what makes the most sense, also if PB/SB do shows then that messes up the whole thing.

It would suck for those of us in the know and is soooo far away but it could be fun if they just sat on this and dropped it late summer/early fall 2023 and then played a few shows with new stuff. Gives them a lot of time to workshop new band stuff, finish solo records, do solo tours, etc. Doesn't seem like something they'd do but who knows

Time Skiffs credits list drop of sun for "additional recording" so I wouldn't be surprised if skiffs 2 was mixed or mastered there or something. Demos/out-takes would be very interesting too. Solo stuff feels less likely to me but really what do I know

No but could be anything. A lot of recording/mixing stuff with the whole band has come from Avey and/or Deakin's personal IG accounts rather than the AC one so I don't think that points to solo stuff necessarily. It also could be a producer and a mixing or mastering engineer in those seats, so they could well just be putting finishing touches on things (extra takes, mixing, mastering) for the new record.

Or maybe it is indeed some other stuff we don't know about. They wrote Skiffs/Skiffs 2 in 2018/2019 and we know how much non-AC Panda stuff is floating around, so given how much output Avey usually has, another solo joint wouldn't be that surprising.

If that is building towards the artwork, it would be cool if the new album had "bits" in the title. Would also be cool if they yin-yanged the concept and made this one more full frontal media collages with just bits of colorful paper in, rather than the other way around on the Skiffs cover where the back is mostly the media collage.

Wasn't he scheduled to play a festival in NorCal this summer? Can't find any info right now but I remember there was/is going to be an Avey Tare solo set in July or something.
