positive (but 6/10) review from pop matters, weirdly namechecking every major album from sung tongs on except mpp

A collage of AC fans taking photos with the boys would be the most cursed thing.
see my avi for details

i've met everybody except geodude.
panda: see avi, that was a fun convo, he was so cool, just a regular guy. it was the GREAPER tour and he essentially talked like random fans would about how sick the show was (it was san francisco). very chill.
avey: after slasher flicks, also sf. told him how sick the show was and how i hoped for more slasher flicks. he said some insanely on-brand thing about how the vibes were funky and he and the flicks wanted to ride that as long as possible. then jeremy came over and i said he was a fucking beast, which he chucked at.
deak: saw him in detroit in like 2016 and mid show he apologized and said he was so tired he felt like he was disassociating lol. after the set i told him how much i loved the album, he was at the merch table, and i said if you stay the night in the city here's a good cafe to wake up with - and gave him my loyalty punch card which had a free coffee ready to rip. wonder if he went lol

Amazon says my cd will actually make it on Fri. And hoping for vinyl delivery on Saturday. A weekend of Skiffs.
I can feel the singles slowly click into place so that by this weekend it will all be this cohesive thang.
I'm considering forming my identity going forward around the worship of Spirit, MPP and this. I think that would be a strong, intriguing selection of "faves".
Sorry Strawberry Jam. Me and Avey HATE you now.
has avey turned on sj?

Domino is almost as bad as Rhino. Their reissues of The Replacements records have been a cluster, even before the pandemic and the shipping crises.

Anyone else subscribe to Larry Fitzmaruice's newsletter? Today's was an interview with Aaron Maine from Porches and he decribed his domino deal as "archaic." Also worth noting that Larry said on twitter next week he's gonna have an interview with Josh and Brian.

I've met everyone except Deakin. Even caught Jeremy once.
Panda after a PW show in my home town. He stayed out there for quite some time for just two of us. Extremely kind. Got a picture of this one. Wholesome.
Geo/Jeremy at a different PW show. Was struck by how down to earth they were.
Okay so the Avey story is hilarious in retrospect. Some buddies and I drove 20+ hours for this festival and it cornpilled literally as soon as we arrived. We were pretty gutted but they started to announce makeup shows here and there. So normally this particular substance isn't my thing at all but to try to make up for the disappointment my friends talked me into doing a shit ton of cocaine. We went downtown and were walking when I overheard "Animal Collective DJ set" outside of this club. So of course I wrangled my friends inside. They got lost in the crowd so I ended up propped against this velvet rope thing on the balcony. The boys come on and I start vibing hard to the jams. I get a tap on my shoulder and this group of people inside the VIP roped area tell me to come in. I don't know if they liked how I was dancing or I seemed like a good time or what. They proceed to pour the fanciest alcohol I've ever seen in my life into my mouth like out of a shitty college movie. Then they just leave and say I can have the space/drinks. So I continue to vibe out and dance my ass off. When the sets over I see that Panda and Geo disappeared but Avey was still around. Coked out of my mind and buzzing like a bumblebee I decided to hop up and tell him his music changed my life and took a picture.
It is so clearly obvious in the picture how good of a night I was having. I still get a kick out of it. Will show if anyone wants a laugh. Never did coke again after that. Lol

i met panda briefly after a PW show in Jacksonville. was a little starstruck but thanked him for the music and got a pic.
also met avey at the same show. we didn't keep him too long but said we were sorry that his aunt passed away and had listened to de soto de sun for her (he had mentioned to do that on instagram iirc). he was very kind and gracious

I've met Deak at a lil local show in 2018, and it was an honor but the story isn't that interesting lol. Caught him coming out of the bathroom, pointed at him and waved my Strawberry Jam CD in the air, and got him to sign it. Was definitely awkward but he was kind and funny and I got to take a picture with him later.
The actual funny tidbit I have about encountering one of the boys is with Geo. We didn't "meet", perse, but I spotted him in the crowd at one of the Cows shows across the bar, and we stared at each other eye to eye for several seconds and I could telepathically hear him saying "I know you know who I am". Didn't go up to him or anything yet it still felt like we met.

Wow Conswaygo good story.
And yes, papadam, there's at least one interview of Avey saying SJ is idk like, reflective of a hard time or sumn and its at odds with how he thinks many fans think of it as a fave. idk. Basically he "hates" it.

Once I sprinkled glass into my BBQ meal at Geologist's Bar & Grill and when I asked for a refund/free meal, Geo himself came out of the kitchen and was very rude and refused, asked me to leave.

I gotta be honest.... this sucks... lol
Maybe it does, but I've gathered a lot of reception from you fine folks that navel gazing at 5 am isn't always the best
The difference is you're asking for people's reception by posting your message on this forum?
Who was your message for? Dave, or yourself? As an artist, do you think he'd be excited to hear that someone reached out saying they listened to a low quality rip of their new album that freebirded out before it officially got released? Whilst referring to it as a meme? and then randomly throwing in there that you didn't like their last major album? It's not like he asked for your opinion about any of this shit lol. The whole message feels really selfish and without consideration that another person is going to read what you said.
summary: Messaging a musician who just had their album freebird in a low quality, and telling him that a "freebird just landed on your doorstep", "admitting a harshness" that you're "not fond" of their last album etc seems unnecessary, sort of ridiculous, and i'm not sure how you expected someone to react to a message like that
i'm sure you're a nice person and all and I'm not trying to suggest the otherwise. perhaps consider what the other person on the side of the letter will feel when you write unsolicited stuff like that
ok off I go, back to my cave
edit: i might has misread your last message my b lmao

Honestly I'd rather discuss the DM than do that

im pleasantly surprised by how colorful this album is. when the era started and i heard them using “traditional rock instruments,” i was worried it would come out kind of beige or grey in my head. turns out its absolutely bursting with color, like morseo than any of their albums since feels to me. its full of gold and red and blue and yellow and green. like watching a crazy sunset

I've met all the dudes, all the same night after a baltimore show in November of 2016 during the PW tour.
Deak was there to support his buds, and a lot of their friends and family so it took them while to come out and say hey to the fans which was understandable.
All of them were very nice. Geo is the most personable and easiest to talk to. Panda and Avey are so shy they can be kinda intimidating, but they are very warm and welcoming of anything you want to ask or tell them. All of them complimented this geometric pattern shirt I was wearing which made me feel awesome.
I met avey and panda a few other times outside of 9:30 club. This girl Leslie and I used to run a big fan account for AnCo on instagram, and Domino would reach out to us with concert tickets and free posters and whatnot. I think Avey knew who we were because after meeting everybody he went on the bus and grabbed a setlist and went right up to my friend Leslie and sheepishly handed it to her. it was adorable.
First time I met Avey was after slasher flicks in DC. I was shaking. he was just hangin at the bar with a beer and i told him how much his music meant and he said thank you, took a pic with me, and that was that.
If you want to meet them, dont be afraid. They are awesome dudes. Just be polite and read the room. And wait around after the show. Don't know if they'll be doing that this tour though due to covid concerns :/
