littest lyric by noah on the album maybe. broke chorus is insane. kinda wish the 2nd verse changed it up a little more but what a sublime track.

I think this album is among what everyone considers their best. To say that is to concede that their last three are lesser which sucks, but my main canon of 2000s AC albums were Sung tongs to Jam, and this album easily fits in. Glad to be experiencing this music with you all, because stuff like Magicians from baltimore and defeat is stuff that sick with us for around 25 years haha. See you then

From Russel Elevado -

Get the new @anmlcollective album “isn’t it now” on vinyl, that I produced and mixed. I did a comparison between streaming from Tidal hi-res and vinyl and there is no comparison. I wasn’t surprised at all but I haven’t done a back to back comparison in a long time. It’s a different experience and closest to what I heard in the studio. CD is much better than streaming but who has a CD player anymore. Streaming is much better these days and can even sound great…until you compare it to the vinyl version or CD. Just my 2 cents

Recorded and mixed @bunkerstudio

Man, these lyrics are hitting hella hard with whats going in in Gaza right now. My heart is so heavy seeing the images of war. Peace to all Palestinian people suffering and Jewish people who wish to live their lives non-violently. I don't want to turn this thread into a pit of political arguments, its just what's emotionally resonating with the lyrics right now.

Once again, Avey's lyrics are gems.

Really enjoying this so far. Way to pull out so many “inside baseball” details. Bravo. Thx dude!
Spoiler: show
Think the Nic Cage-related project Geo couldn’t talk about is the forthcoming Butcher’s Crossing? Going to be hard for the movie to live up to the book, but an AC soundtrack would’ve helped.

After spending a long time with the album, taking my time with each song, this is one of my favorites now. Even if I'm not totally into a song, I love to just listen to how it sounds. The production on every one is beautiful.

I did notice the CD seemed considerably different than the mp3s (in my car). Just way more clear and vibrant. Lil bit of placebo there maybe but ya sometimes I don't think I really notice a difference

I haven't heard it with my own ears but it's not a placebo. Streaming is going to have (data/lossy) compression applied to it, CD version is probably the same master but without any compression. Going off of Russel Elevado's post, the vinyl has it's own master unique to the medium (and this version sounds the closest to what the band had in mind when mixing)

I wish I could justify spending money on the vinyl version/was in a reckless headspace but i'm not there right now unfortunately. Would be sweet to have it

Buy a shit car and run your mp3s or FLACs thru a cassette adapter for some vintage analog vibes. Works for me.

I believe it. I was pretty blown away by the sound of the Person Pitch records. it sounded like a different mix

The thing is that first mp3 version, the freebird we all listened to, wasn’t good in the first place. So if you compare original CD to that, CD sounds considerably better. But if you find a proper mp3 version of the original release or make it yourself from the original source it won’t be that different. I remember Centipede Hz freebird was of the same low quality as well.

I kind of like how imperfect some things on the album are, it’s not overproduced. Gem & I to me sounds almost like a demo. It’s like you record something yourself and then enjoy that specific version that captures a specific moment in time. First you may want to make it better, to get rid of some imperfections. But after a while you love it as it is.

I had a dream last night where I listened to the album on vinyl for the first time. Vocals on Gem sounded totally different. It didn’t sound like Panda or Avey or Deakin at all. So I was sure it was Geo.

no vocal pitch correction checks out, all the vocals sound extremely live and real in a way i don't think they ever really have on an ac record since like, pre tongs

BZ is so damn good. Been top tier since first listen. I feel like the drumming on this record adds a lot of replay value to the songs in general, but they really pop on this song. It has such a unique feeling among AC songs imo

I also love Avey enunciating everything as clearly as possible on the chorus lol

played the whole thing again over a couple of car rides yesterday. still solid. maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but i feel like geo's hurdy-gurdy was done so much more tastefully on here than time skiffs. it sounds really transportive in a way it didn't there. maybe it was just mixed better, i dunno. either way, i thought i was sick of hearing it before iin dropped, but despite geo using it in most of the tracks, it doesn't overstay its welcome too much

Couldn’t agree more, on time skiffs it feels very shoehorned in especially on Prester and Walker, whereas I couldn’t imagine songs like Defeat or Genie’s without it. It even ended up sounding pretty damn good on Broke Zodiac when it was always my least favorite part of the live performances

agreed with both above. hurdy on IIN? is incredible, whereas i think adding hurdy to a song like Walker was a mistake -- changed the personality of that song a lot, especially in conjunction with how they cut the melody of the percussive keys in half, which is probably my biggest demoitis on that album.

Found “Defeat” a spiritual sister in the song “Ominous Cloud” from Broadcast’s Haha Sound. You’ll see what I mean starting around the 1:02 mark.

I was definitely baffled by ATCAB on my first dozen listens. But I'm starting to find it to be a spiritual cousin of the middle section of Defeat. Outta left field; a bit over the top; playful. Likewise, the twinkly riffs in Stride have started evoking some of Geo's soundscapes in part three of Defeat. So those two tracks, which I'd been having a hard time incorporating into my experience of the album as a whole, are starting to click a lot more. And . . . this just accentuates, for me, how much Defeat kinda unites everything else.

Still find Stride to be a bit of an outlier. Great song but it really does just feel like a Deakin song shoved onto the album. Really think it could've done with Panda harmonies instead. Only song on the album with one vocalist...
