Not sure if this has been posted yet or not, but from the recent Pitchfork interview/update:
So new AC and another Avey solo album in 2015, maybe? So down

I keep asking myself if I would like this song if it was some other person making it. My girlfriend said it reminded her of montreal, and I hate that band. I think avey could release anything and I would like it. Thats a good thing right guys?

i once asked myself the same question, but then u just gotta think "if i do love the song why bother questioning it"

If another band wrote it, it would be a very different song, because a completely different personality and artistic vision would be brought into play. Since you're so into Avey's style it's pointless to consider that you only like it because it's his track or that it would be illegitimate to dislike the "same" song were it made by someone like Of Montreal.

Ive questioned myself many times regarding animal collective songs that i had newly heard, and came to the conclusion that i genuinely like all of it. I thought of all of the times i have waaay over hyped artists or albums that were about to drop, and even though sometimes i am just trying to convince myself i like it, i usually realize i was just forcing myself, and become aware of how much i truly like/dislike the song/album.
This doesn't really happen with animal collective for me. Sure, I didnt like chz as much as SJ or sung tongs (still my fav release of 2012 tho), but i don't just convince myself anything anco touches is gold to me just because i know they have been my favorite band. If you like it, you like it! if you don't, you don't.

In that pitchfork interview dave said they record all their shows. one can only hope that Animal Collective will remaster and release some of their favorites like The Dead.
And maybe, maybe even a run of smaller venues playing new AC material. Is this too much wishful thinking?

When I met Josh he mentioned the same thing about recording all of their shows. He said it was so they could figure out what works and what doesn't with the live set and that they got the idea from the Grateful Dead who did the same thing.

I really don't like Little Fang. Maybe I was expecting something darker or more complex? That Daft Punk disco-guitar is cringeworthy. However it has been stuck in my head the last few days, but kind of in the way that bad Green Day songs do that too. It is a single though, so maybe the other songs won't be this sugary. Just had to vent. Anyone else feel the same?

I definitely would too, if I ever get to talk with one of the members of the band again I think I'll ask them about the possibility of this.

they started playing the mpp songs 5-6 months before strawberry jam even came out...i can't see what is so weird about them starting to write new songs in 2015 when cp hz came out in 2012.

I love the song, but I do hope that there is darker more complex stuff on the album.
Even if it all is more lighthearted, I'm still super excited though.
I can be a sucker for sugary sweet songs haha.

I kind of feel the same way, I don't think its a bad song but it doesn't really have me hyped or anything. I don't hate it but I'm a bit underwhelmed. It, too, reminded me a little of RAM which I wasn't a fan of unfortunately. I'm not too into the whole funky disco thing in general, and I was expecting a little more from the drumming since I know Jeremy Hyman is great at what he does. But I liked the vocal melody though, the production was also great, and I haven't listened to any of the boots so I'm still hopeful that the rest of the songs will deliver.

everyone keeps saying funky disco thing but i hear new wave and 80s stuff, which isn't to say there's no disco influence, but more like siouxie and the banshees, the smiths, and also poppier dance music.
but i mean, it's intentionally "gothic" music, with the name and the themes, so it makes sense to have a slightly 80s "goth" pop aesthetic and to pay homage to that and similar styles.
also the references avey makes to songs like monster mash and what not help explain this as well

That's one of the bigger issues I'm having so far with this single is all of the reference points to other bands/styles. Like Down There doesn't really sound like anybody/anything else. I know I've only heard one song (haven't listened to the boots) but whatever, maybe I'm just being a brat.

Completely disagree but I can understand your position. I had the opposite reaction. Hearing Avey happy again is amazing! I like CHz but most of the record deals with depressing themes and darkness. It's cool to get some good-mood Dave songs again. Plus it's completely unexpected from what we've heard. Total curve ball! Imagine if this is the direction AC went next time!
Full disclosure: I like RAM

haha yea dude I agree, I was also expecting something completely different. I think the song is just average to be honest. Not bad, but nothing spectacular. Also, I find that theres not enough variation through the song and it gets boring hah. I do really love the lyrics tho! They make me really happy and I just wish the song was better haha

Dave was quoted as saying that the band would be releasing their next album as early as next year, which - to me at least - seems like a pretty small time interval since they've only stopped touring for CHz last month and since Dave and Noah have devoted a lot of their time to their side-projects. Sure, they can write music relatively quickly but they also tend to tour before recording, so (unless the gap between the recording-process and album-release is as short as it was for Feels) I find it a little unlikely that we'll see any EPs or LPs before the first quarter of '16.
