Bonnie “Prince” Billy’s “This Is Far from Over” is the essence of the magic of music to me. It speaks to that ideal alliance between loss and hope. I have found this last week to be a crash course in distilling the essence of why life is important and what is important. I have moved all of my energy to those that I love, to getting food gardens started, and finding the words that can help someone, or myself, return from the void of despair and fear. This song has pulled me back to nowness and hope more times than I can count, and he only just released it this year. Thank you Will.

Loving Avey's bandcamp release of the Mothlight set. It's such damn good quality and the beats are mad. Also, I no longer feel sad that the Mothlight versions of Midnight Special and Taken Boy don't exist in the studio. They're perfect as they exist from the recordings, and in addition to that we got the awesome studio adaptations.

I grew to like the studio Midnight Special but to have the original performance remastered is so much better than I could have hoped. Honestly, I would be fairly satisfied for AC to never release another album if they went through the archives releasing recordings of their live shows. I would genuinely pay twenty dollars a month for a subscription type of service if they released one new show each time. They're sitting on a staggering wealth of live soundboards and I would much much rather they monetised this than studio recordings. It would also mean they could release their newer stuff as live WIP versions and they could continue to tour for the revenue and creative space.
It's a terrible plan from a commercial perspective but it's a kind of utopian AC ideal that I would love.

^man I think Avey like doesn't like the DT tour songs (that didn't show up on the album). Just seems like there's been little hints that he doesn't feel strongly about them beyond the fact that he simply never recorded/released them. I also still kinda hate myself for asking him about the songs after a slasher flicks set like a strait up paparazzo or some shit lol. (he was kinda like 'idk' when I asked btw...)

yeah I guess he wrote them at a difficult time in his life that he might not be particularly keen to revisit... but still, would love an HQ boot of that practice set!

SXSW film festival is going to be streaming for free on Amazon for 10 days sometime soon. Filmmakers choose whether they opt in. Hopefully the one scored by Geo/Deakin is included.

My friend wanted to ask you some questions. He’s a big Animal Collective fan and said that Animal Collective has cited you, cited Pavement as a big influence. What do you think of Animal Collective?
I like ‘em. Sung Tongs was one of my favorites when it came out. I like the new stuff too. A friend of mine—Brad—was doing their tour managing.
It’s two of ‘em. It’s not Noah so much. Noah was not into Pavement, but the other two [were]. And then eventually a little bit, Geologist, who wasn’t in the band then.
But Dave... I think one of their high school bands they used to do Pavement covers. They did a lot of different things but were into that. I thought that was cool and I’m still in touch with them on the internet and whenever they’re in town I come to see them.
They’re doing a Sung Tongs tour.
Yeah just two of ‘em, Noah and Dave I think. I saw some video of it.
I think he's confusing Geologist for Deakin.

Do you think that since the recording of the next record seems delayed the boys would make a social distance EP? Trade files and record their own parts?

^huh when chz first dropped I was going through a more isolated part of my college years living alone in a house and I liked it pretty good at the time so that kinda tracks.
moonjock has that pre-isolation nostalgia, TS has that dogged determination to keep going and mercury man/amanita have that kinda wrung out emotion tantrum energy that were all probably circling at this point..

Heres a song i made a couple weeks ago. I keep tinkering away at things in/out here. I want to get music out there and create some new energies around you maybe make you smile. Hope its atleast like a little bit of sun shining on you wherever you are. Hope and sonic nourishment seem like a small thing to offer when there are people out there really stepping it up. My heart is still shining on all the health workers out there in the thick of it and everyone out there working and giving all of themselves to make some order in the chaos. I hope that everyone out there has an opportunity to open up a new door out of this. To create your own kind of door into some new way of being. If nothing more it seems like a good time to figure out what that door looks like and feels like to you and all of us together All money made on this track in the next couple weeks will be donated to @sweetreliefmusiciansfund

this is what it sounded like to me:
sad to go away but
guess we're supposed to
world in a jar
out come you
see you in the future
some forgetting
willows and dowls
of wool leave the clues
let me make my door
a beautiful entrance
let me shape my door
porous with green vents
and let me wake my door
and into this great big world
i'll break mine
now i wear a peace coat
and it won't hurt
there's sun on my shadows
on concrete on dirt
livin' up to my roots
every day and i thank them
for teaching me
how to bear fruit
let me make my door
a beautiful entrance
let me shape my door
porous with green vents
and let me wake my door
and into this great big world
i'll break mine
ehhhhh nenenenenene
laying on a driveway
lookin' up where there's crows in a murder
there's blue on my shirt
trying not to doze off
feel the palms of my hands
on the warmth of the ground
and assert
let me make my door
a beautiful entrance
let me shape my door
porous with green vents
and let me wake my door
and into this great big world
i'll break mine
i was on the...
(not even going to attempt this part)

I haven't posted on here in years but felt compelled to reply to this one because it's a little detail I've always loved. There was an interview a long time ago (have no idea where/when), but Geologist said that whistle sound was from a plastic bird water whistle. Check out this youtube video and you can tell it is exactly the same sound. This just seems so perfectly AC to me - using a kid's toy to make something that sounds both natural and synth-y/unnatural at the same time.

It always struck me as wild how instead of having a "synth" player, AC chose to play sound effects and field recordings to form a noise floor for the rest of the instruments. I mean, they brought the synths back out for MPP but there are so many crazy sounds on Feels and SJ that are just obscure samples
