I think they totally are. But as a specific musical point of reference, it's just kinda lazy/reductive writing at this point.

Putting aside the 'Want" for the "Need"

Its pretty funny how many times I've read journalists write about Beach Boys comparisons with AC/PB. But while we're on the subject, a long time ago, I remember somebody made a mix of the instrumental part of "All I Wanna Do" with PB's vocals for "Guys Eyes" and it was REALLY good. So I kinda get where the writers are coming from, but can't condone lazy unoriginal writing. If you read more than 3 AC reviews, you'll stumble upon a Beach Boys reference. Also, this.
