If I had a big high quality scanner at my disposal the first thing I would do is scan my copy of Feels and look at it.

yes, danse and hollindagin both get much better when played loud through speakers vs headphones i've found. got to feel those frequency ranges

get better headphones?
I think it's more to do with the dynamic range; their first two albums especially have heaps of quieter/louder moments so it doesn't work listening while there's other noise going on around you
their later albums are more compressed so it's easier to get most of the music even if you're not listening on your own in silence

I've had this ominous feeling about Animal Collective lately. I'll bet they don't come out with any more albums. My guess is that these next shows they play will be their last. They put on a great show when I saw them last month, but Panda was barely involved. Same could be said of Avey, I guess, when compared with the exuberance he shows when he's playing with Slasher Flicks. It just seems like the wind is out of their sails right now. Maybe this has been discussed elsewhere on CA, but I haven't seen it. I hope it's not true, but it's a feeling I can't shake.
On a lighter note, Dave "Liked" one of my Instagram photos today. It had nothing to do with AC, and no hashtags or anything. I was stoked.

I absolutely hope this feeling is wrong. Damn wrong. I hope they go all Rolling Stones style and make music into their 90's.
I read about a show they put on in Barcelona earlier his year, and there was conversation among the fans that there was a lot of weird tension and bad vibes coming off the band. This, coupled with all the cancellations and stuff, Panda's Daft Punk track and resulting mainstream exposure, Dave's side-project... I don't know. I'll keep positive, for sure, but it's an obnoxious little nagging feeling.
I wasn't here in 2010.

Maybe stick around a bit longer then and see. Dave and Noah have both had solo projects and side projects for basically the entirety of their career.
Panda Bear since 1998
Jane since 2002
Avey Tare since 2003 (he almost released Spirit as an Avey Tare album though)
Terrestrial Tones since 2004
Avey/Kría since 2005
Also I haven't really seen any mainstream Panda Bear exposure at all. Not that that would really change anything. "Hey guys so a lot of people know about me now, so obviously I'm leaving the band." ???

wait is that what the cover is??
I always assumed the cover was the shadow of Avey holding a guitar.

Most bands are at their most prolific early on in their career before spacing it out because things like families and marriages come along and slow things down. They have probably just decided to take things a little more slowly and do one thing at a time rather than having solo material and AC material running simultaneously like they have in the past.

i think nathan maddox died five years before that story supposedly took place so it's probably more likely to be "magical realism"

the name's a coincidence right? was Nathan Noah's college roommate?
i think ODDSAC gets overlooked, there are some good songs on there!! (beyond Mr. Fingers (though that is a v good song!!)) i like Screens a lot, Noah's lyrics are on point also; i was really into Kindle Song for a while there too. maybe i like Dave doing those more restrained jams (other examples: Working and D13 in the TTG stems)

like jfw said, Nathan died in 2002, when Ezra was 18, so he probably never met him. it would be really weird and gross to write a fictional thing about a person that you didn't know that died tragically.
i am reading it again and he does say "Nathan, I’m sorry I didn’t give you more of a chance. You died WAY too young." which does make me look wrong (always a strong likelihood) but he follows that with "To my ex-wife, I will never stop loving you. My failure to save our marriage haunts me to this day. I hope you and our son are enjoying life in Atlanta." which makes me think/hope it is just silliness and an unfortunate coincidence
