there's also a feature on braxe/falcon with a little bit about the song and a quote from panda bear: https://pitchfork.com/thepitch/alan-bra ... interview/

wrote:
At the center of “Step By Step” is guest vocalist Noah Lennox, aka Panda Bear of Animal Collective, in strikingly full and clear voice. A fan of both producers, Lennox leapt at the chance to be involved. In a separate interview, he says the repetition of the song’s title phrase throughout the verses, chorus, bridge, and coda reinforces it as a hopeful mantra. “It’s a reflection of how much I’ve been inspired by their sampling work,” he explains. “They can find short, meaningful phrases which hang over the whole track and just accrue power.” Lennox’s satisfaction with the end product is palpable. “It’s rare that I listen to stuff that I’ve done or worked on, but I listen to this all the time.”

As for Braxe, he became infatuated with the handclaps and harmonizing of Animal Collective’s rootsier jams, spotting commonalities with the way he and Falcon work. “It was obvious we shared the same intention and had to make music together.” Braxe is especially interested in how simplicity can trick the mind and cool the listener down into a jellylike state of receivership. “If you build a song the traditional way, you have to be strong in your progression, or else the ear detects mistakes and is disappointed,” he says. “When we focus on loops, you’re not waiting for more, you’re waiting for less.”

I'm aware I looked like a bit of a nob but I can take any mockery or abuse, don't worry about me. I live by the sword and I promise I will kill absolutely anyone with a sword.

Here's some info about Step By Step digital release quality and features:

What an amazing production.

For info, the Bandcamp release seems to be EP only so you get Step By Step now and the other four tracks end of May.

Boomkat has the single which includes the single mix, 12" mix and Creative Source, that Crescendolls style track which I also love.

Boomkat WAV is also marginally bigger than Bandcamp, for info, so it's approx 1.4Mb better.

There's a lot more detail here even than in that recent vinyl rip, crisp little snapping hats and the pads sound fucking enormous and enveloping, really warm and dreamy.

I found a 'trailer' for this EP on the label YT page. It starts with 20 secs or so of previous Braxe and Falcon stuff then gives snippets of what I assume is the EP tracks, including a remix of SxS. Sounds cool.

Edit:

Here you go, bud.

It's a take on Todd Edwards' chopped up vocal melodies, I'd say.

for those looking for the conclusion to the step by step feature - the full EP is out now and the last track is this "bonus beat", basically a chillout remix. no new vocals but nice chopped up stuff from the original

woahhhhhhhhhh the bonus beat is so good!!!! ...gonna have it on repeat for awhile... this takes the song to a spacey dream-wave summer bliss place that hits me so deeply and perfectly.

curious to hear thoughts on the rest of the braxe+falcon ep... Love me is really good but Elevation feels pretty bland. Idk anything about Sunni Colon but it seems a little unfair to put his feature on the same disc as step by step lol. It's also the only one where the instrumental feels uninspired to me. Super specific but it immediately called to mind Harvey Sutherland - Expectations which I just prefer.

I love the EP! Elevation is def the weakest but still good imo. the Step by Step remix seems to fit the sounds of the rest of the songs even better than the original. good little EP

people (including me) have discredited the DwttH digital mix, but it actually still hits so deep and punchy.
the ep is a true instant classic - I genuinely appreciate having multiple ways to hear these songs

I'm gonna give it another chance, cuz of YOU!
That EP was really awesome when it came out, filled a big need for me to hear drawn out PB songs like how he does live. So it was hard to fall in love with those set of songs and their fidelity/mixing and then be presented with a new super clean version. Felt like taking off your favorite worn in jacket for a bright new stiff one. I immediately rejected it cuz the better version was the one I heard first and burned into my brain. I don't think I can really be objective about it, but maybe after a few years, it might sound different.

Have you heard the 2018-05-07 9:30 Club bootleg? Its fucking amazing, whoever recorded it is a LEGEND. Best Part of the Math rendition!

yes, brilliant boot! it was recorded and mastered by someone on here, wish I could remember who. crystal clear though.
back when he pumped out drone at an ear bleeding volume. "I felt the bass in my ass" hahahahaha

let me know how you like the digital mix! no dramas if you still prefer the vinyl version, I get it.

the vinyl mix -- the bass is the shit, i love clipping distortion. if it was on a cd I'd be blasting that at max volume in my car till my neighbors complain - i think my main complaint is that the digital reaaallly improved the bass :\ i mean to the point where the energy isn't there anymore.
