I think a PB album on top of the SB collab album in the next year might be a bit much to hope for but yeah the next year or two is gonna be stacked just off what we know
I'd lean towards another PB not being til at least 24, but I suppose only time will tell

I actually wouldn't be surprised if PB's output generally picks up in the next couple of years, the way he talked about his work habits in that interview from a month back

Zodiac went from being one of the songs I probably thought about the least as Strangers, to maybe being my favorite of all of them now? Those keys... THOSE FUCKINGS KEYYYYSSS. I mean I loved the blast version but this one I think has developed super super strong.
Apparently Avey let it slip tonight that the saxophonist for L’Rain plays sax on Defeat in studio

So they recorded 9 songs:
1 - soul capturer
2 - broke zodiac
3 - stride rite
4 - kings walk
5 - gem and I
6 - defeat
7 - magicians from Baltimore
8 - genies open
What is the 9th song? Is it something we haven't heard or am I just stupid and missing one

Could be a whole new song, could be one of the remaining Music Box songs - Sundown with Cecil, Paper Forehead, Spider Bit My Lady, What's On The Road, Peanut Butter Hearts, Who Knows, or TriKid

^i think it's more likely to be a brand new song, stuff deakin has said has made it sound like the rest of the music box stuff beyond what we're expecting hasn't been recorded
was thinking about how it would be cool to make defeat the lead single for this album:
1. gets extra attention
2. get to hear it earlier
3. gets to kind of be its own thing while at the same time still being on the album
4. whole music video for defeat would be dope
i think they'll end up picking magicians and gem and i as singles though

if it's the sax they use on stage, i would not expect any traditional sax sounds to be on the song. that thing is fucked (good kind of fucked though)

My god the three part harmonies at the end of Genie's Open Beer. They've maxed this one out, fuck. Studio version is gonna make me act up

I hope the trains across the sea bit makes it into studio genies! these songs are gonna come our fantastic I can just feel it. Love that new little beepy synth toward the middle of soul capturer too.
holy shit balls the version of genies from luv's 9:30 club recording is absolutely incredible. sounds so fucking good. unbelievably pumped for this song.

Dude yeah I was at that show and that performance was the one that really made Genie's click for me. Before I liked it well enough, but this was like a revelation. Everyone loves the last section and for good reason, but the middle section is what's really amazing me now. Can't quite articulate it, but for some reason the title makes perfect sense to me now.

Title totally makes sense. The song has this magical Can vibe.
I would honestly be 100% happy for an all time classic album that is just Magicians, Genies and Defeat. It'd be an absolute wonder.
Save the rest for the EP. These three would make Skiffs 2 a totally unique beast and an absolute masterpiece.

just had the revelation that this soundtrack and this soundtrack alone was the inspiration for Skiffs and Skiffs 2 --- Magicians and Slayer got the Zoombinis DNA for SURE

A 3 song album would be super interesting! I like this idea.

Magicians and Genie's are too structurally similar for that to work imo

I think all 3 songs are too similar structurally for that to work. IMO as endpoints and defeat as the middle point they would work the best probably, so Magicians opener, genie's closer, Defeat all side C.
Also, I think my ears are pretty good, can anyone else confirm if these are the Avey lyrics to Kings Walk?
"This whole world is
Almost getting cooked
This whole world is
Tougher than it looks"
I feel like there might be another word before "world".

middle section sounds like:
we'll drift into the night until we find the sea
sea, sea of light, sea of light, sea of light
we'll land on arms and thighs and stand into the night
sea of light, sea of light, sea of light
we'll drift on through the night until we find the sea
sea, sea of light, sea of light, sea of light

All I hope for TS2 is that it ends with Genie's. The record seems thematically darker and ending on a more upbeat high note would be so satisfying.

Has Dave done the Silver Jews lyrics each time they've played Genie's on this tour? Hope that made it into the studio version, seems like they could actually get the rights for that to work.

They didn't do it at Mass MOCA I believe, when they opened with it.

Wonder how much of a 'reaction' to Time Skiffs there will on this record. They specifically set these songs aside to be recorded in person and after Skiffs, which was meticulously pieced together over a longer span of time, I wonder if they've approached this with a totally different mindset. They don't like to rest on their laurels either. I could see them rejecting the Skiffs ethos and recording this a lot like they recorded Tangerine Reef or something--real live sound with minimal overdubs.

this feels totally possible to me, would certainly help the whole project come together way faster too. definitely feels to me that the band wanna get these songs out the door so that they can move on to new stuff.

Yeah this would also just make sense given how these songs are structured anyway, and with how they've been playing the material from Skiffs as well. I really really feel like this tour is just putting the fire under Domino's ass to release this thing, like, soon. Logically speaking having it come out in October before the EU tour would be a great way to ride the era out, but logistically it might not be possible.
It would be super amazing if they could get a tour break during the beginning of 23 to hash out the new ideas, and skiffs 2 coming out before the EU tour would definitely reduce pressure to keep touring the same material, at least IMO.

I've been hoping thats the case. Skiffs is a great record but I kind of prefer a lot of the live arrangements of this stuff to the album versions. Ever since hearing the first boots back in 2019 I've thought that a big strength of this era is that they are finally kind of flexing their instrumental chops and really playing off of each other and are like hey look we got really good at playing our instruments, the live car keys intro is one of the best examples I can think of for this kind of thing. Maybe it's the remote recording or overdubs or whatever but that's the vibe I'm missing on skiffs and hope comes through on this new one.
I think one of the biggest obstacles for this album release is for them to get past having the physical release at the same time as digital. They should just drop this shit online and put up a preorder for the inevitable double LP.

I hope this is the case because the live versions sound perfect. Especially Magicians. I hope the production is more stripped back because the vocal's on that song sound amazing and I wouldn't really want them super buried in the mix.

i think abt this all the time, PW era was literally just them flexing how fucking good at this shit they are. those songs look kinda crazy hard to pay, the panda ones especially but stuff like burglars is just like wow damn. i think atleast two of them were classically trained and they just fucking go hard. Spirit actually has some pretty amazing arrangements too considering the motherfucker was 19 years old when he wrote it like holy shit.
