I mean it’s already pretty short you could’ve thrown Gnip Gnop and Hounds and Jimmy onto the tracklist just for some variation. Hounds is one of the more unique hocket songs aesthetically speaking idk how that one didn’t make the cut

I dunno if this is even contarian but Analog homies is just so much better than digital. Digital is great but Analog might be my favorite release by PB.
Also I disagree that PW is a cold style exercise without those songs but I get the decisiveness over the album anyway. I see a large, marbled museum passing through by a bunch of different exhibits of different movements and stuff, but all tied together by this white marbleness... like the focus is on the tangential, the things you take for granted that dress all the beauty... hard to describe. I used to really not like PW besides Florida, GG, and Recycling but the whole thing speaks to me so so much now with the context of time Skiffs after. I still think all of their albums from Ark til now are all of equal qualities, just all different experiences obviously, and I always feel something different when I approach these albums at different times and seasons. I like to think that saying MPP=PW=CHz is a sacrilege statement on this board which I fully stand by. But this is basically to say that hearing MPP in 2023 is never going to be MPP in 14 or 18 or whatever because the context of the band is always shifting and obv of our lives. IMO, besides maybe R.E.M, I can't think of another band that you can see so many seasons, styles, and different experiences when you give em time.

Same lmao. No matter how I rip it I can't get it to sound as clear as the digital version but it's like... clearly superior

What about those 3 songs on Buoys with EXACTLY the same strumming pattern/delay effect?!
Play the first few seconds of Cranked, I Know I Don't Know and Home Free one after another to see what I mean.

i guess the auxiliary elements of those songs keep me invested, like the whistling in i know i dont know and the ending of cranked, only real place where the autotune hits for me. i know i dont know was one of my favorites from the live buoys tour. i'll concede on home free though!! i really wanted master to close the album

Home Free is the only one where I feel like I've had enough of that formula. It might be just that it's the last song but I also find it unmemorable, weakest melody on the album. Everything else is killer, absolutely love it, way underappreciated by the shit munchers.

Buoys is top tier PB and combined with Homies might be his best work, i always tell people who are really weirdly militant about hating it to keep listening, perhaps with a system that can reproduce super low end lol

I’m not quite a hater but it is unfortunately one of my least favourites.
There’s the above issue but also the whole thing still feels to me like some nice Panda songs dressed up in clothes that don’t quite fit.
It feels like a whole range of sound is missing. It’s full of thin, piercing highs and deep bass but very little in between. The vocal mixing is loud, sharp and right in your face. All of this diminishes some of the impact of the songs for me.

Funny I really like Home Free for some reason. I feel that way about Inner Monologue and I Know I don't Know. There's nothing quite like this album in the rest of the AC sphere, it's so tactile and textural. Feels like everything can be touched or moved or something, one of the best album names to describe the music. Rusty really is something else.

The current era of their music is not for me. I was very mid on Time Skiffs and I find the two singles from Isn't it Now? (feels ridiculous calling Defeat a single haha) to be a snooze fest
Maybe cuz I didn't grow up listening to the Dead and I still find their music somewhat nauseating?
I guess I am just a contrarian lol

Eh, this stuff doesn't sound like the dead, I think it's a bad comparison from lazy critics. Curious what your favorite AC eras/Albums are if this stuff isn't hitting.

Buoys and Tomboy are tied for best solo album IMO, at least until SG which I think is going to be an evolution of these two sounds. With a gun to my head Buoys is the better album even though there isn't a track on there stronger than Friendship Bracelet or Afterburner.
My nuclear take? Surfers Hymn->Alsatian Darn is my least favorite stretch on any Panda record.

It is crazy to call Tomboy your favorite solo record by Panda Bear and also say that a third of the songs are your least favorite Panda tracks.
Anyway Buoys is stellar but I agree that Home Free is the weakest track (though I love the POP POP POP), it feels less like a proper song and more like an outro (I mean it is, the meta “see you around” is such a dorky way to end the record, I almost would have rather he had just said “thanks for listening” at the end— sorry, love you Noah).

Buoys might be my second favorite panda after Tomboy master tier but I also don't even really know the name of half the tracks. What is Home Free, like I think I know.
Master and um. I don't know (?) Are faves for me to play on piano and I know like dolphin and cranked and reeeeally like title track. But yeah idk the other song names. Idk. It's so good tho. It's weird how it's his lowest rated in rateyourmusic by far but Fuck it it's great and I hope he knows that (reset is his second highest rn, and I love it but hmmmmm idk if it's comparable to pp, tb or even buoys)

Tomboy isn’t my favorite but I think there’s a pretty strong argument to be made that it’s his best.
I really like Home Free, it got kind of a new lease for me when I found out he used it to open a ton of sets. That every song sounds like it could fit anywhere on the album is one of my favorite aspects of Buoys

I fucking love See you around hahaha. I could see it being corny but i think its so cute and the whole thing about it being played on vinyl on the big circle. personally i always thought it would end with the paulstretched piano chords from master but its cute

The most surprising thing to me is how heavy and hard home free slaps for a song that's just a bit of acoustic guitar strumming, a simple drum machine rhythm, and some water drop/ping pong kind of sounds. And yes, buoys is chefs kiss all the way through for me. With maybe a tad too much salt on the vocals on the title track.

PP is my favorite, I flip flop on whether I like PBVSGR or Buoys more. Both have incredible appeal for me despite obvious differences. Always seems like there’s a lot of Greaper hate on here so I gotta shout out an ally when I see one.

wow that truly does deserve the nuclear descriptor i'm impressed, surfer's hymn and last night at the jetty are the very peak of noah's career for my money
but also i think that outside of person pitch, a day with the homies vinyl mix is easily the best panda project. it's absolutely flawless on its own terms, even if it doesn't have anything to match the best of PP and tomboy it's just so solid and substantial. and the minimal gritty metallic aesthetic is so fucking intoxicating, feels like the absolute ideal setting for noah's post-tomboy ethos

as much as i love the turn things took after the late 2004 ZDB set debuting the sample-based work through bbc 2005 and person pitch, the alternate history of 02-04 with young prayer, the rusty santos set, the noah's ark show, is all super good too imo.
funny to think how the jane stuff bridges both eras, with berserker ending up in solo sets by the end. are the early records more in that floaty abstracted PB space?

It did take me a long time to come around on Buoys, but now I think it's extraordinary. What clicked for me was thinking of it as his stripped-down, singer-songwriter album, full of subtle and brilliant and catchy melodies framed by negative space

Hello, my name is tasty games and I'd like to share with you some of my dreadful takes:
I adore King's Walk and Monkey Riches, and I think Golden Gal is one of top three (if not the best) songs on PW.
I think Safer is overrated and too long.
I much prefer MPP to the 2007 live versions.
Whilst I appreciate its cultural significance and its rightly earned importance in the AC-related discography, I think Person Pitch is inconsistent and find Greaper to be a better album overall.
I went for a piss during Visiting Friends on the 2018 Sung Tongs tour.
I went for a piss during the WOO! breakdown of Brothersport on the 2012 CHz tour.
I think Danse is mostly garbaggio.
Sleep Cycle is a four song EP.
I think pretty much everything after Drone on Tomboy is a snoozefest.
I think almost every single AC music video is kinda shitty. They all seem to look like they're made by an art school senior who loves to tell everyone how much they enjoy mushrooms and avant garde horror.
I think Deakin's songwriting is mostly stellar and he's a deeply talented musician but his voice works better in a supporting role than a lead one.
I think studio Midnight Special turned out really really well.
Come @ me.
