Yep. It can be constructed entirely of Jonestown massacre samples and I will still love it like my own child

Anyone who says Ben allen is why they don't like the mixing of Hz is Ridiculous. The dudes always have last say and probably tweak things themselves so they get to a point where they all enjoy it.

Ben went in late at night and changed everything, every night, til they normalised it, like in Roald Dahl's The Twits.

Yo where did that picture go? Somebody posted a pic of the guys (but not deakin) at a studio in LA, it was like sun drop studio or something like that. It was posted maybe an hour ago and now it's gone. No it wasn't that one from week or so ago with them sitting around

Any Deakin involvement registered yet? I've not been following this album build up, trying to avoid any details.

Doesn't look like it so far. I think someone posted at the beginning of the year that he was "recording his solo album in June"

do bands make demos in studio ??
first record not performed live at all prior to recording ?? they seem to enjoy changing the process for every record. the best c hz and slasher flicks tracks were studio creations so I feel positive abt it

I feel like making a demo in studio would be a waste of money. the purpose of the demo is to show the other band members, engineers, producers, or label execs an early sketch of a song so that everyone has a good idea where things are headed before entering the studio

I believe Spirit was recorded and released before any song was preformed live
If you don't count the glasslands show with avey, deakin, and Kria, oddsac was only worked on in studio
And New Psycho Actives vol. 1 has never been played live

I'd count glasslands for sure, the last song they played which turned into Mr. Fingers was a classic example of an early live version of a song
although I guess it wasn't called an Animal Collective show. It's like if Deakin played Wide Eyed on his own but they didn't play it as a band until recording.

while this is all technically correct (I think), I would say those are all special cases. Spirit is basically an avey solo album w Panda on drums. Oddsac wouldn't have been performed live (besides glasslands) because it wasn't intended to be separated from the visuals - same reason they didn't release it as a standalone album. and New psycho actives I think was just sort of a one-off thing that avey and geo did for fun
But for all of their "proper" studio albums, they've played the material live before releasing the album, starting all the way back w danse and campfire songs. so if they recorded their next album before anyone heard any of the songs it would be a pretty significant departure imo

You're definitely right that all those releases are special cases, however I don't think new psycho actives is a one-off. I'm caustiously optimistic that NPA vol. 2 will see a release around the Autumn Equinox of this year with Noah handling a summer influenced song and josh doing one for autumn. perhaps that's when we'll get a psychical release of both volumes bundled together, so that the boys can make some money off of those songs (though maybe they want to keep them free and digital for licensing purposes)
To continue speculating, maybe NPA 1 was the start of a new AC era and we didn't even relealize it, one that is electronic beat driven and one which we see them focus even further on studio experimentation. For this next LP, they could be looking to change up their creative process by publicly avoiding messing with the songs live before the release, for the purpose of lessoning the prolonged hype, surprising the fans and trying something new. And although this seems unlikely, but who knows, maybe these new batch of songs will never be preformed live and that the next time they tour, AC will be a 4 piece and they will already be playing completely brand new jams.
I know, that's a lot of maybes

I'm not 100% on this, but didn't Avey say to someone on Instagram that the Psycho Actives were a once-off, and that he and Geo made them in, like, 2013?

Hadn't read that before but I found the quote from 14 weeks ago:
Still think it would be rad if they got josh and Noah involved

There's a new photo on Avey's Instagram that shows everyone minus Deakin. I'm guessing that's the final nail in the coffin for if he's on this one. I was upset about that for a second then remembered the Deakin solo album that may (?) come out soon. I mean unless there would be another reason he's sitting out of this one.
Ooh my god what am I doing I just spent all last year on the hype train for PBVSGR I can't do this again

it doesn't look or sound like it has anything to do with AC to me
