i'm in love with it, def my fav pb/anco adjacent cover so far

also, the cover is animated on apple music
https://mvod.itunes.apple.com/itunes-as ... x2160-.mp4

this is just some speculation, but the editing style rly has me thinking this is the work of danny perez haha

Song is good by the way. Real nice. Fine. I'm never usually bowled over by PB album closers anyways. Think it will open up in time and within the context of the record (hate that expression but it's true here probably). Didn't care much for Go On until I was listening to the whole record, then I loved it. When the weight of being the lead single is lifted. Anyways looking forward to this freebirding at like thanksgiving or something

I love it, really showcases how talented him and Deakin are getting behind the mixing board. Everything sounding so crisp. Really excited for this new record, I know Danger is on Reset and will almost certainly stay in that realm but man I'd love a bendy guitar version similar to the Madrid boot, fingers crossed for an EP release with that included, a man can dream

Artwork gives me disco elysium vibes which is kinda cool. LOVE the song. Excited to hear AC contributions in the full thing. Didn’t know that Josh had helped produce - this makes me even more excited as everything he produces/mixes has been grand imo.

Yeah i think you nailed it. The pressure of single #1 is amplified from pre existing anticipation, and it being one of the very few things we will get (officially) before album release.

Im definitely more excited about the shitty microphone boot of Virginia Tech. I think the proper version of the song will live up to the anticipation/pressure period.

That said, Defense to me feels like a classic PB closer. I always loved Home Free and this definitely reminds me of that and Ponytail. It has a certain soft bittersweet closer energy that he does very well.

I also love the guitar sound. I think I hear an Eventide Timefactor which I know Deakin uses, on the FilterPong delay setting. Maybe i'll ask

I like Home Free. I realised after saying that that I actually really love his album closers. What was I thinking? Benfica is the best one. They're all very understated.

Kinda funny how this ends with repetitions of 'Here I come', Home Free with repetitions of 'Sea you around', Acid Wash with repetitions of 'Graph the spasm'. Guess he likes doing that

I think Recycling is the only album closer that's ever had me like
:fig:

Loving Defense and can't wait to hear it in context with the rest of the album. Proud of you, Noah & crew!

Probably the most upbeat Panda song in a while, feels like he tried to write an Avey song. Love the vocal harmonies, feels like a yin to Defense’s yang

Definitely feeling the first single expectations pressure with 'Defense'. It's ok but, as mentioned, so was 'Go On' etc. I'm sure I'll appreciate it more in the broader context. The wobbly guitar is cool but on the whole it all feels a little slight or something. Anyway, when the album comes I'll play it all a hundred times and end up loving or at least liking/appreciating all of it.

Kind of incredible PB announced the album title over 4 years ago and stuck with it. Also, interesting the consensus seemingly about “the woman” on the cover. I see a boy. Perhaps a Noah.

fuck defense is real good... guitar and drums sound just perfect. Cindy Lee feature is perfect. lyrics feel very sad to me but the song is very hopeful. classic duality of PB.

I don't love the artwork, mainly cos on first impression it's very dark and smooth, doesn't appear to contain much. but I'm sure I'll come around. buoys has imo the worst artwork of any main release in ac's canon and I still adore that record, it doesn't matter a whole lot.

great stuff great stuff,

definitely getting the paul simon vibe that others are talking about here
very very very fun
there's a lot of crazy sounds going on, especially in the back half where there arent any vocals (the lead sound that goes into that section is insane!!!!), i'm excited to hear it if and when the HQ rip emerges from the ether
"tryin' to mend my depression
seein' the end, my depression
i'm blurrin the (????) my depression,
try as i might, my depression"
it's so exciting to have new panda lyrics to ponder
