Spilling Guts is only like 2 minutes long though, I think that implies some kind of different rubric. I imagine it will feel, in the context of the album, similar to Sweet Road or College on Sung Tongs.

I'm really excited that we're getting the first sub-two minute song from an album since Sung Tongs.

a lot can be done in 2 min
aside from that though it just sounds the least interesting to me, it will probably still be a good song tho

Yeah, a length of 2 minutes doesn't necessarily mean it will be comparable to Sweet Road or College. Especially since this whole album is about short, fast-paced songs. I'm guessing it'll be just a short fully-formed song (haven't listened to any samples though)

i get that. i typically wait for a full hq version of the record to be available (via freebird or from the release). now i'm just thinking of bypassing that, since the album comes out on the day i'm seeing them.
i've already preordered the album and am going to five gigs on the tour (first and last show, 2 nyc shows and levitation fest), so i guess waiting a little longer to hear the record won't change anything for me, in the long run.

I didn't mean to imply anything about the complexity of the song or anything, I just meant that I think it might have a similar dividing effect on the album like those other songs. I guess more the Sweet Road comparison than College, though.
Also now that I think about it, Who Could Win a Rabbit ? is only like 20 seconds longer, length can be deceptive

true
and it's probably got at least 20 seconds of intro/outro!

Do you guys think this album will be bigger than MPP?

nope, definitely won't be. even if it's as good and poppy, anco's fallen out of the zeitgeist and the music world has moved on to other kinds of music. mpp came at the perfect time for what it was, as far as popularity goes

it seems like the whole "not presenting it live" thing is more on their end. they develop the songs themselves instead of feeding off whatever live energy or developments happen.

I guess I can see what you're saying, but I feel like this could potentially be one of their more popular albums. I am certainly digging these samples.
The Burglars really gives me a late era Beatle's vibe, and then they switch it up to some weird 80/90's g-funk vibe recorded on some old tape player with Bagels in Kiev.
Agh, I am going to love this album.

anybody else have a decent to strong feeling this will be yr new fave ac lp? i know thats like inflated expectations and all, but at this point my fave is just a tie between MPP, CHZ and kinda SJ sooo this could totally break that tie... based off of samples, info on it, floridada...

The comparisons to feels and sung tongs and the 'primitive' vibes are what's making me think this could become a new favorite. Also I can't get over how much I like FloriDada as an opener

I've made memories with all their albums and I expect to make new ones as well. I'm not worried about the popularity of it. I've never cared if anyone like any of their music. I just know that I like their music, and that's all that's ever mattered. I'm very happy that they have continued making music in their own way. 5 more fcking weeks... ah man, I can't wait to forget about this wait.

I haven't listened to samples but based off of Floridada and surrounding media I've been feeling the same way Diomedes. When I first heard Floridada I wasn't entirely sold but it's really grown on me. Having gone back and revisited the catalog again as I usually do before new albums come out I keep coming back to Floridada and really having a good time listening. I think it goes without saying that AC's music won't ever retreat to the stylistic qualities of Sung Tongs or any of the earlier stuff, but I'm definitely at peace with that idea now, they created that music for that time and it now exists in their library/our libraries to be appreciated as the brilliant music it is. We're in a new time. To be quite honest, I'm really anticipating a sweet/fast/fun album that is simply exciting to listen to. Yep

I listen to the samples all day everyday. Spilling Guts is definitely my favorite. It feels like a nice little meditation, a resolution to the songs that came before it before we make it through the last three song stretch. I know I can't possibly judge it like that because I haven't heard the album but that's the feeling I get just from the samples. I'm also pretty sure Natural Selection and Bagels in Kiev are gonna bleed into each other.
My favorite samples:
Spilling Guts
The Burglars
Lyin in the Grass
Hocus Pocus
Vertical
I also get the feeling that this could be my favorite anco album. I love the idea of the album I have due to the sample but I also love the fact that when I hear the whole thing it's going to be something completely different

I have this thing were I usually hype the freshest stuff from the few bands who I consider my favorite, so there's that. but ya I'll have to see. Vertical and like 4 other songs based on the samples seem like the best shit they've done just about..

I really hope the album is as popular as MPP just because I like it when AC is setting the trends that other bands follow. It would be sweet if PW were a "big" album that shifted the direction of indie music back towards where AC have been all along
Just from the way the band describes it and how easily it came together I think we're all in for a big treat. Can't wait!

I want PW to be a big hit as well, but at the end of the day what's most important to me is that the quality of music in PW is there, and luckily everything on it seems to be potentially really catchy and catered to my taste.
If the album is received well by Pitchfork and other reviewers (say what you will about them), then it will get some great attention. Don't expect top 40 lists on Billboard or anything, because things just probably won't end up that way, regardless of how well the album is advertised/promoted.

why not? you're talking about sales right? MPP hit #13 on the 200, CHz hit #16

I don't really care. Although to be fair to you, I forgot that they peaked that high; however it probably wasn't for very long (checked, Centipede Hz only charted for one week). My main point is that I will still embrace Animal Collective's artistic vision and the effort they've put into Painting With regardless of widespread recognition.
Of course I personally want the album to be a big hit and match the acclaim of MPP and Centipede Hz (their best albums by the way

It's freakin' Animal Collective anyway so yeah this album will be pretty big. It's already one of the most anticipated releases for this year in the indie scene; simply put, the boys are just being quiet about the album's content until it's released, so there's obviously going to be some worry within the fanbase since it differs from their usual release formula. But in the end, as a result I think that the actual release will hit somewhat harder and come out as really satisfying.
EDIT: I don't know how my post sounds but I'm not trying to attack anyone personally, just kind of throwing some words out there

sooooo excited abt... all of them but Hocus Pocus, Vertical, Burgalars, On Delay, Spilling Guts, and Summing the most. holy shit. Anyone think the panda ones have this like educational music vibe? like this earl learning vibe, like something that would teach you how to multiply that might play from some weird fisherprice thing from the 80s/90s? idk i cant rlly articulate it. stuff like Hocus and Summing the Wretch.
Spilling the guts sounds like its gonna be such a feel good vibe

Yeah it's kind of a snappy thing to say, but I want to make it clear that setting a bar of expectation based upon previous album sales is just completely nonsensical.

haha that would be so nice, I don't see this topping MPP, FEELS, SJ, ST, Spirit or even FBK/ODDSAC, but I almost know for certain that I will enjoy this alot more than anything they've done since ODDSAC, and maybe it WILL top everything, Floridada and the samples do sound amazing. I need neeed this

Really psyched on the album, think it could be the apotheosis of their energetic, pysch-pop sound, but doubt it will surpass many of the others for me. My five favourite tracks are Banshee Beat, Laughing Hieroglyphic, Loch Raven, Winters Love, and Search for Delicious. Doesn't seem like there's going to be anything in that vain here.
Can anyone rejig that famous Zoolander gif? Has anyone before?

This album is already next level just on the basis of the vocal interplay we've heard from the samples. I haven't heard that kind of vocal style done by many musicians, so I think that in itself might become a trend to take place in music after the release of the album.

Even just worry about the album sales in general is nonsensical ..... haha ... If people wanna get hyped on a popularity contest .. look at how many of their shows sold out so quick! The Chicago show was sold out in like 3 fckin' hours ... Chicago! I understand we do have many AC fans tho,but my point is that its a hip hop /pop city musically ..these days.. or shitty mental dominates around here too.
