Most important thing in the article:
"As for the group’s future, members plan on getting back together sometime in 2019 to work on new material based around a couple of live shows done in New Orleans last year. 'We wanted to do something swampy and jazzy,' said Weitz."

Cajun jazz AC album confirmed
but seriously I'm psyched, I haven't heard any of the Music Box Village songs but based on what people have said abt them they sound like some v special music

Second most important thing:
"Recently Weitz and Portner have been revisiting sets they recorded from 2009."
....perhaps for an anniversary release...?!!!

I gotta admit reading that article did make me wistful for that era, perhaps it's just my age showing but the whole cycle of hype, release and post listen discussions did feel like such a richer more communal experience during that time. I feel kind of alienated by the more ephemeral streaming culture described in the article. Big part of why I continue to visit this board, it feels like an oasis sometimes. So psyched for them to work on the music box stuff, cant decide if I'd want them to get right to recording or tour first.

yeah that's a good article. I wasn't a fan back then so I didn't experience the MPP hype but I agree that the way everything moves so fast now is really frustrating, and I like that places like this forum can be an antidote to that. Definitely appreciate the kinds of in depth discussions ppl have on here
I remember hearing them mention that Daft Punk Coachella set somewhere else before, but I didn't know that served as an inspiration for them to remix/rework their songs, that's cool
Nitpick but feels dumb to say Deerhunter were influenced by MPP since they're friends and contemporaries of AC

if mpp is 10 years old ive been on here for 8 years now which is pretty wild
good to know the music box stuff is gonna get the studio treatment....we need Defeat released
id wager the album comes out first quarter of 2020 and we get some kind of MPP anniversary live set thing this year

I think it's perfectly normal to be influenced by your friends and contemporaries...
really excited to hear about Music Box action in 2019!

Yah. AC were def inspired by BD despite being friends/contemporaries

no that's true, I phrased that poorly and I'm sure Deerhunter's been influenced by AC. I guess I didn't like how they phrased it and lumped them in with Alt J and Tame Impala, almost makes it sound like Deerhunter's style is indebted to MPP when they had already been around and doing their thing for a while by the time the album came out
extremely pedantic needless thing for me to post lol .

I was gonna say that Bradford had posted freebirded MPP tracks on the deerhunter blog but that was actually Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear lol.

Shame on you Eth
Avey: “It was messed up that Ed from Grizzly Bear was the one that got yelled at and that was a big deal, when other people freebirded that track.”
