We're here fellas, now this prophecy does come with a warning: don't scare the fish. We're in the right spot, but in order to catch the prize we seek, we must be silent and still, and simply wait for the heralded skiff to meet our own

feel like Passerby has become overlooked in the post-2019 boots. listening to the blast version and its climax is still jaw dropping, even sans autotune.

The only thing we’re really upset about with the freebird is that it’s only parts of it. I think there are six songs out there now. People aren’t even able to get the full experience of the album, which bums us all out quite a bit. So if you’re listening freebirders [speaking directly into the tape recorder], put up those other three songs, man, pronto.

Pan Flute Jam is definitely the best track off Geologist's debut album from 2024

Strung With Everything is growing on me, thought it was a bit clunky at first. Also really vibe with that line in Mark Richardson's review where he says that Avey is so good at melodies they can almost become too jingle-y or twee for their own good, and that there's less of that this time around which is good.

Yeah, I assume Mark borrowed that line from me because I've been saying since CHz that so many of the melodies sound like fuckin Chicken Tonight or something. Catchy but lacking in weight. Stuff like Father Time (a lonnnggg tiiimmmme agooo) epitomises this, but there's loads on CHz, even stuff like the synth loop on Monkey Riches. Sticks in your head but no connection. Good to see Mark pannnnn the fuck out of the 10s output with the Skiff review, makes me even more excited for it.

might sound odd, and I don't typically feel this way about most bands, but I personally feel like AC is at their best when they're...idk...taking themselves seriously? They're are capable of injecting powerful emotion into their songs so when we get albums of gloopy florida rugrats songs (while that is unique and interesting in its own right) it feels like the band is not giving it their all? Maybe an unfair take, but hey. All this is to say I'm here for these loving community vibes of Time Skiffs.

I understand what you're trying to say. Yes.

Headed to ER but before I pass out from the most intense pain I've ever felt (a 12'' being lodged inside of my abdomen) it's...... steel guitar played into a PA with tremelo effect... Or a Leslie speaker... Beatles style...

Goodbye CA... Hopefully not... forever... And be careful what you wish for... It hurts

Only avey and the deak will wear them. Panda and geo are too cool for that. But avey will dye his hair blue to compensate for that.

yeah I could have done without the hipster stuff but I think looking at the last decade as a "wilderness period" is helpful to put things in context. Any long running band worth anything has some detours along the way but the at the end of the day the full picture is more important than any single album.

Also really excited to hear positive words on the Dragon/Car Keys combo. Still can't really picture Dragon Slayer opening but damn if they aren't two of the stronger tracks from this batch, great way to kick things off.

A strange piece that seems to nail certain aspects but also miss the point and outright get some things wrong. I don't think irony has ever been a thing with them, and that sincerity and lack of embarrassment is something I really love about themselves so much. It's why I eternally respect and admire their desire to make music that I won't necessarily like. I don't feel they're conscious of their audience at all, at least in the sense that they might respond to them in some way or another. There aware of the perception but I feel like their decision making is still entirely self-driven.

Also, I'm pretty sure for what it's worth that Carles was a big AC fan.

This is really well put Stan. It's something I really respect about them too. A lot of artists who have come up over the last decade or so have a slight "self-aware" or "ironic" tinge to them and I find it exhausting. Almost as if they're too embarrassed to just be themselves. Hyper-pop has got to the point where essentially the whole genre is just people "being ironic". Part of me thinks it's a defence mechanism, like "well the reason this sounds so derivative is just because I was joking!".

the last decade as a "wilderness period"

"what am i gonna do? go into the forest until i can't remember my name"

in some crucial ways some of the bands lyrics and themes seem to anticipate their future. call them augur artists. "defeat" and the conference of birds seemingly predicting the pandemic, "fall be kind" preceding their fall from indie grace, the aforementioned amanita lyric describing the wilderness metaphor and harkening the dismemberment/re-membering of subject/object that stories through their movement from pre-merriweather (subjectivity immersed outside of itself) to merriweather (harmony of preobjective being with a true subject) to chz (agony of subjectivism) to painting with (postmodern objectivity, if you will; the lack of subject) to now time skiffs (the arrival to something like the "human, all-too-human" where the band doesn't play the human animal––they are their humanness––and the subjectivity of their early years are sublated or maybe just introjected; integrated into their songs as such).

anyway, i agree irony has never been a hallmark of the band. painting with probably plays with irony more than any of their records, but it's also their most critical and self-reflective record. irony just seems like a projection from popular music criticism, as is their "childlike naivety" a failure to keep listening with the band past their initial early years; a myth of development, of the american puer. let them grow up and let spirit vanish so it may return.

^damn sick concepts yr spitting out

also, hey y'all this is actually Dio's good friend. He unfortunately was pronounced dead early this morning-- cause of death listed as vinyl record lodged surgically into his chest cavity and he bled out once removed. The record in question is still with the coroner and we are wondering if this is some kind of press-campaign gone awry. If y'all have any info on who might have doxxed Dio, maybe a super fan or the band themselves, we'd greatly appreciate any info. I will be cooperating with law enforcement so feel free to DM this account with any pertinent tips, ty, bless and stay safe
