regarding the youtube description - this one isn't actually an unused track."Blooming Coral" was renamed "Coral By Numbers" and you can hear the sound of this demo throughout the song, just a little more cut up.

This gem of a post from Avey (old boards) is too good. Miss the guys. Also slowly unearthing more "lost" posts from the band.
Spoiler: show
Arukamon: on the album he sings it horrible both ways, like a barley legal call girl whisper-talking and exaggerating her breath like hell. live he actually sings and projects his voice..... i really hate the way he sings on feels and only thing worse is hes the only one singing almost all the time...

that is, the way he sings live is much more instrumental and formidable among all the guitars and effects, whereas on the album he has the vocal room to accentuate anything. don't you remember how he sang the stevie wonder part live, with the woo and the "digga-don-der-der" thing he did with his voice like a machine or something, check out the haverford show if you dont know what im talking about

i know panda's gotta drum and everything, but only having his vocals in the breakdowns/soundscapes parts is only furthering the formulaicism of the new feels sound..

which brings me to ask if the new post-feels songs - revgreen, chores, amv, safer - are going to change radically or something, cause if they dont itll make the first time AC has taken a sound - in this case a formula (IMO) - and stretched it over more than just one record... i thought that was one of the big things they didnt do....

oh well sorry about the rant, just got to thinking...

Avey:
you remind me of my girlfriend in college. Do you by any chance write for your college newspaper mr. formulacism. Ill bet you do. do you really have to be so negative? wouldnt only singing in an instrumental fashion be a formula in itself and only further animal collectives formulaicism? do you have the formula for that formula by the way? no wait youre right we should probably never record these new songs. how can we even have fun playing anymore. thanks for the advice.

really strange choices there but it's cool to see Down There and Prospect Hummer so high up on the list, I feel like a lot of people forget about those

it also made me realize I've never actually listened to Pullhair Rubeye as it was released

Article: *includes Animal Crack Box*

Seriously, though, this is a really boring list, and disappointingly so! The only thing these ranked listicles have going for them is idiosyncratic and controversial rankings (more meant to drive shares and clicks than anything else), and this doesn't really have that. There's a few unusual choices (like Grime Reaper at 4, wow), but nothing that really cuts a bold statement; this is very nearly the safest ranking I can imagine.

I'll say what I said on the subreddit:

It's remarkable that someone who clearly loves Animal Collective and who knows so much about Animal Collective can be so so so wrong about Animal Collective.

lol I looked at the vulture list and I basically agree with it :-P except:

- slasher house is waaay too far down
- water curses too
- young prayer is too high, sorry young prayer
- good placement for down there, I shoulda put it higher
- prospect hummer #9???
- grim reaper at #4?????
- fall be kind at #3 is cool

Listened to the 9:30 version of Purple Bottle on my walk home from work the other day. I couldn't believe it; the moment the band stopped playing, I was right at my door. It could not have been synced up any more perfectly.

I've come to the conclusion that What Would I Want? Sky contains my favorite vocal performance from Avey Tare. I love his screaming as much as the next guy, but this song sticks out to me because it sounds traditional. He's hitting the right notes, but putting emotion/inflection in all the right places. He's able to jump between higher and lower notes with little hesitation. It has made me really appreciate the song as a whole.

I’ve always preferred the BBC demo of WWIWS since the studio version collapsed part of the verse into a Panda harmony instead of letting Avey flow through it, which I totally agree he does so well in that song
