It actually feels surreal to hear the lyrics to visiting friends. almost like we shouldn’t be allowed to hear them, liking we’re breaking some code

I think this might be(come) my favourite (live) recording ever. of any band. period.
everything's perfect about it, seriously some of the most legendary things i've ever seen/heard.
like someone said, this is when music can be a (quasi) religious experience. they did it, jesus christ.
(sorry for all those big words but this seriously touched me deeply)
boo-hoo-hoo

Yes, this was a sacred and magical show. One of those "holy" moments I'll always look back on and think, "Wow I was so lucky to be a part of that." People drove out from as far away as Texas, Montana, and Michigan, and others flew out from California, Oregon, BC (me) to witness this. If they play other Sung Tongs shows or not, there won't be another show quite like this one, where people came from all over the place as if starved children seeking a Holy Oasis, and the experience was transcendent. Avey was a cartoon lightning bolt of energy and Panda was some shy mystical creature keeping it all stapled to the ground while still flinging his own colour of energy into the air.
Thanks to all the chill CA folks I met in the front and center. And to all the folks I excitedly asked, "Are you from CA?" only to receive question marks and "WTF are you talking about"s yet were still kind enough to talk with and rave about how good AC is. Thanks to Jeff for bringing some water, for the positive vibes and enthusiasm overload of Ben, for the kindness & light of Tyler and Jeremy and all you folks I probably got flung around with and squished up against. It was absolutely perfect.

yes, that crowd --- it shouldn't have been a surprise, but i was so stunned by its complete enthusiasm to sing every word and fill in the parts the two couldn't do on their own (BGVs, claps, extra harmonies...)

this might be a dumb question, but how is avey controlling the effect on his voice in visiting friends? at a couple times the effect seems to go crazy (oooOOEEEEooooeeeOOOEEOOoo) without him moving from his guitar

Wow, that was so good it made me depressed. Depressed I'm never going too see it live myself. Also great seeing them perform these songs when people are actually singing along and understanding what the hell is going on.
Definitely going to watch it in full when I have the time. Is the youtube and that mega-link the same source or are they different recordings?
Thanks to whoever recorded this!

The crowd overall kinda bothered me with the singing along, but the clapping was cool. I'm just not a fan of sing alongs, especially with these tracks. Some songs they have made work well with crowd participation (Floridada comes to mind) but I can't really say anything fits with Sung Tongs imho.
I am glad that the people there were into it though and don't want to come off as a curmudgeon saying they shouldn't be allowed to sing a long, different strokes for different folks.

At first I thought it was the 2 mics as well, but I think whoever was controlling sound off stage was creating those ooooEEEEs. There was quite a bit of panning on Aveys mic that he was definitely not manipulating himself (avey's vocal also got turned up once the panning started).
The music Geo&Deakin were playing at the beginning of the show was also wonderful- played a dance mix of Michael A Michael by Broadcast.
I agree that the crowd really made the show. It was during Covered in frogs, folks in the crowd were singing different verses than Avey or Panda (by mistake) but creating a beautiful mosaic of revolving-chorus that was all encompassing. Was particularly stoked when Avey put down his guitar. But I also felt a strong desire to hear only PandAvey's singing at times-is awesome that folks really know the words and all (and there were definitely appropriate times to sing along-like HOLIDAY). During really sensitive & quiet parts of the show folks would let out giant YEAAAHS or some such exclamation. Would imagine it kinda jarring for the performers to hear.
And thank you everyone for being there- it was a really warm and welcoming space. Ben for organizing the FB events, and Ian& both Jeremy. Was extremely cool to meet Adam &Jordan

If it helps, we are talking about Animal Collective who are a famous and critically acclaimed band. No need to feel bad about not being an amazingly good artist.
