Artwork is the Tomboy lady grown up
Oof he said 'some' of the Madrid songs were on this so at least one of Bop and S of E are on the chopping block. Think the former is far more likely to be on this. Don't think it's Praise though. Which I guess means the boot's best song is in the wind ...

I dont think we should assume that just yet. PBvGR era he put out a ton of songs that didnt make the album on EPs.

It's something new, like how this sound is something new. I think it's one of the best from an AC release in many years. Definitely like it more than Reset and Buoys. Definitely like it more than IIN and TS, or 7s.
Much like their musical history they are prisoners to the standards that they have established. Basically every AC related artwork until CHZ was actually good and cool visual art.
This sinister grift art is not literally ugly like most their recent artwork (still pissed they used that drawing for painting with instead of the awesome back cover), it is basically nothing. Really not a big deal, it’s about the music and the single is great

I will admit chz is definitely an outlier and probably their weakest album art. but I really like this and the vibe. it's different from the others and feels more personal and has more emotional resonance. I definitely think its pb's best album art since like tomboy.

I'm joking lol. I'm at a work offsite and PB LPs have always freebirded insanely quick and at the most inconvenient times for me so I am fully expecting one now

Eh, I wouldn't read too much into that one word. At that point they still hadn't recorded the songs yet, so I'd wager he still wasn't sure what the tracklist would be.

Virginia Tech is a Rolling Stones song (early 60s). Love it. Defense is great. (got the vinyl)
Tried to rip VT but my computer is dumb. Will try an older computer. If someone already has a good rip, please punch me
[ETA] older computers did not work out. Will need a punch for a digital rip, please and thank you.

no one's mentioned yet this is the first panda solo album to include all 3 of the other AC members?

it's been mentioned a few times
curious in what capacity: guessing Deakin plays some keys, do we think Dave sang or played something? would be cool if Geo showed up by adding some crazy FX or if it's the hurdy gurdy again

I'm throwing out a wild speculation that Avey does not sing but plays piano and Deakin sings.

Seeing people on reddit just now finding out about panda bear's breakup.
....And some moralistic redditor complaining about the age difference despite both being above the age of 30.

Honestly I found out about the breakup like two months ago and my response was "huh. not my business" as it should be with everyone else

i only found out in the last week. i dont really care about the musicians i listen to's personal lives unless they cross a boundary. it does bring some context to stuff (lyrics, vibes, etc) but at the end of our day it isn't really our business.
but you may have found a subconscious/underlying reason for the album art backlash

i showed up promptly at my record store's opening to snag a copy and they said on Monday Domino pushed release date from Tuesday to Friday, so they couldn't sell me a copy any more

I've called every record store within several hundred miles and none of them had any idea what I was talking about. One of them did say that The Smile did something similar and speculated it was random who got it.
I miss Austin. I bet End of an Ear gets one.

Welp, I couldn't do a direct rip to my computer, so I recorded it with my computer microphone. I will not put it up on youtube because that would be a poor way to represent the music. But it's a cool song, so if you care to hear, feel free to reach out. Full disclosure, I'll only share it with people I recognize from here. Just please don't share this crappy rip elsewhere (e.g., reddit, etc.), a good rip will surely be uploaded before the end of the week.
ETA:
Here's the discogs page I made for the release, pics included; credits are on the labels.

Well Virginia Tech sounds completely different than I expected. Banger, high energy, and a much more upbeat exciting song compared to Defense. Leans into the Panda Bear ness of it all while trying out a much more traditional 60s rock structure. Super cool and cant wait to hear a hi-fi version.
